((Exactly what are we fighting?))

Ash had his Dragons take up defensive positions, "Cover each other! Stay in formation!" They would not be rushing at this unknown threat.

((You can find character profiles for all of them in the Supporting Characters thread. If you need any extra info, then Nhazhan and the Nameless Man fought against Mordain, Nathaniel and the monks in Amei so you could read that battle.))

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

((Also just to point out there are only three enemies here fighting you at the moment, the Nameless Man, Nhazhan, and Lauati. Ulldomae(sp?) has not arrived yet. But remember, Lauati has already engaged one of the Dragons in close combat.))

((Spelling is correct.))

Mordain rushed forward with his staff held towards Nhazhan. As the monster moved to strike Mordain, he raised his staff to deflect the monster's hand away before pressing the palm of his hand against Nhazhan's chest and speaking spell words. A torrent of black fire propelled the creature backwards.

Nhazhan merely rose, though did so slowly. "Sstop... thiss... foolisshnesss..."

-----

Wyrillyn fled through the forest, ducking and diving around all obstacles in his path. He hadn't used this amount of energy in years. He fled like a madman possessed.

The air darkened and a shade appeared before him. Wyrillyn skidded to a halt, his blood turning to ice in his veins.

"Going somewhere, Wyrillyn?" asked Krodalis calmly, though with a dangerous edge in his voice.

"You... You can't stop me!" he exclaimed, trying to seem as brave as possible. It failed. His words sounded more like a plea for mercy than anything else.

"That is true." said the shade as he walked closer. Wyrillyn took cautious steps backwards. "But Ulldomae draws near; this much you know. And look," Krodalis nodded behind Wyrillyn, "your companions have abandoned you. This is it, Wyrillyn. This is where I will claim you. Stop fighting me. You can feel it as much as I can; this is where my triumph begins."

Wyrillyn knew he could run past Krodalis, even through him. But the shade's words... Wyrillyn could feel the truth in them. He, as Krodalis predicted, believed it to be true. He stood deathly still, the racing of his heart the only sign of life about him.

Nathaniel stood up from one knee to his full height. Bringing his staff up he began preparing a spell to strike back at the Nameless Man.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lauati brought his demon spear around, thrusting twice with it. The human soldier he was attacking dodged both attacks but so far had been unable to attack in return.

Zuka managed to roll out of the way as this dark-blue demonic creature attempted to pierce him with his spear. It had been mere instincts that had saved the young Dragon. At the first sight of the beast, Zuka had forgotten to take the initiative, overwhelmed by a deep sorrow and desperation. Only split seconds before the attack had the adrenaline in his blood kicked in and he had managed to save himself.

As the monster had thrust at Zuka, Ash had retrieved a throwing knife. The Dragon leader threw it with exceptional speed and accuracy. The small blade penetrated the odd skin of the demon in its back. Ash shouted, "FORM UP, Dragons!"

Lauati roared in pain as the knife ripped into his back. He wrenched the blade free with some effort and tossed it to the ground. With his anger rising the King of Despair held his free hand to the wound and withdrew it covered in his blood. Let's see how the mortals deal with true despair, Lauati thought.

With lightning fast reflexes the demon grabbed his earlier opponent by the throat and pushed him towards the human that had injured him. It was not a strong push, just enough to knock the man to the ground, with the demon's blood smeared on his skin. Direct contact with Lauati's blood would send even the hardiest of mortals into fits of depression and hopelessness, the weaker ones would sometimes commit suicide as the dark emotions overwhelmed them. These humans were soldiers though, skilled from what little the demon had seen so far, so the effects would not be as bad as suicide.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Nathaniel finished his spell he heard Ash ordering his men to form up, his Dragons the young man had called them. The black-clad mage unleashed his spell at the Nameless Man, black lightning surging from Nathaniel into his opponent. In the dark it was only the contrast of the snow and slightly white outline around the magic that made it visible. It was not true lightning in the elemental sense, it was black magic designed to injure and weaken his foe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Nameless Man was struck and staggered slightly but did not seem greatly weakened. Using his own magic, which seemingly required no words only some hand movements, the Nameless Man finally deflected the lightning. It was sent shooting up into the sky where it dissipated harmlessly.

Mordain kept his eyes fixed on his enemy, the foul creature Nhazhan. The monster had risen, but Mordain knew he could not let up if he was to defeat this foe. As soon as the words had left Nhazhan's mouth, Mordain rushed forward once more. He chanted as he moved. In responce, dark fire surrounded his staff. When he struck Nhazhan in the chest, the fire spread to his enemy, attacking Nhazhan as if possessed of a mind of its own. The creature thrashed and struggled with the fire. Mordain used this oppertunity to knock his enemy to the ground.

Ash felt an odd sense of vertigo as he tried to stand up from the blow Zuka's body had delivered. He could not regain his balance. Then Ash remembered his mother and the way she had stabbed herself in the stomach. Why was he thinking of that now? The image occured again as Ash tried to stand up. He fell on the ground and overwhelmed with this surreal memory he cried, "NO!" as he once more saw his mother take her own life. Fighting this emotional darkness seemed futile. Ash could not feel his body. He saw her again and then he looked down. His hands were holding his own blade tightly, the tip barely touching his own gut. Shocked by this, Ash threw the sword away and sat up. He felt a sticky substance on his stomach. He couldn't have! He couldn't have!!! Searching for a wound that was not there, Ash realized that it was not his own blood. It had been smeared on his body from Zuka. Zuka! Ash looked around and his mind finally cleared he remembered where he was and what he was doing once more. He saw Zuka lie u-shaped on the ground. Ash checked on the Dragon and saw that he was still alive. Combat instincts kicking in, Ash found the blade he had tossed away and ran towards the blue-skinned bastard that had put that dastardly spell on him a few seconds before.

---

The demon had barely managed to push Zuka towards Ash when its left shoulder had received a deep cut from one of James' spinning disks. He tossed another one, aiming at the beast's neck.

Lauati grabbed the second disk out of the air and throw it back instantly at the thrower without breaking stride. One of the other mortals was charging at him with a sword. Grinning wickedly the demon readied his spear and walked towards the man.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nathaniel drowned out the rest of the combat and focussed on the Nameless Man. Summoning a great deal of his power the mage began to speak the words to a spell. The very air around him seemed to increase in temperature as the magic words were spoken, and the crackle of his magic-tinged voice was other-worldly to anyone un-used to magic. Before he could finish his opponent was running forward, leaping over the dying flames that Drakkon had cast earlier and rushing head-long towards Nathaniel.

Mordain cast one final spell, summoning foul tendrils formed of a thick, dark, sludge-like substance. The tendrils struck out at Nhazhan, keeping him on the ground as the dark flames ravaged his form.

The Mage of Shadows turned to see a demon moving towards the Realmers. As the creature made ready to strike, Mordain darted and deflected the attack with his staff. He stood with his staff in both hands, positioning himself between the demon and its prey.

"Come then, demon. Let us see if your despair can lay its grip around my black heart!" he snarled.

Lauati was slightly dismayed at the speed of Mordain, but hid it well. He backed off a step or two, the dome of his bald head illuminated by the dying flames behind him, the crown of horns like razors in the light. He inclined his head in almost a nod of respect before bringing his spear up in both hands and saying "You should be with us young one, these mortals do not deserve your protection, nor do they understand you. We understand."

"I doubt that, cretin." he replied. He kept his staff in a firm grip; this creature was obviously powerful and Mordain would not allow himself to make the first move.

Lauati brushed the insult aside "The Master will make you see the error of your ways. It took time for me to open my eyes to the truth of existance and why it must end." Without warning the demon lashed out with his spear, aiming for Mordain's head.

The attack was quick and, in truth, Mordain had not expected it. He dodged out of the way, though the spear tore through the side of his hood and left a cut across his cheek. He brought his staff up quickly after, knocking the spear aside and sweeping for the demon's legs.

"Oblivion is not for your master to dictate. No one has the right to make such a choice!"

Lauati leapt into the air, using his wings to carry himself over the staff aimed at his legs and over his opponent's head as well. Landing with his back to Mordain he spun around, the spear making a whistling sound as if it cut the very air. Still, his foe avoided the attack once more. The blue-skinned demon retorted "We have the right to make that choice! After all that has been done to us, we can see that existance must end. Look at your life young one, at the hardships you have suffered, the hatred, the mistrust, everything you have lost! Do you really believe that any life is deserving? These wretches you surround yourself with? Your tormentors and righteous fools?"

Mordain spun around in time to block the next attack, bringing the two into a deadlock as their massive strength pushed against one another.

"The only wretch I see is you, demon! I am like you, I know of suffering, of pain, of torment unimaginable! The difference between us, demon, is that I am strong enough not to let it claim me as you have. You are pathetic. Hatred is only as powerful as you allow it to be. You were once the master of your own power. Now, now you have allowed this dark taint to control you completely. Well I will not let this evil conquer me. I will fight, and I will triumph, in the name of what is right!"

Lauati used a surge of strength to push Mordain back. He roared "Fool! You talk like any other weak mortal. Taint? Right and wrong? These are words weak mortals created to comfort themselves, and you should not be taken in by them, you should see that all my Master stands for is the truth! Unadulterated and pure, the truth that life does not deserve to continue! You call us evil, but do your people not turn on each other at the slightest provocation? Do they not murder, and rape, bring war upon their neighbours? They can barely get along with their own kind simply due to geographical location! Do they not kill the ones you love?"

Lauati used his spear in a quick series of thrusts and swipes, trying to keep Mordain on the defensive, just as his speech would grind him down.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Nameless Man smashed into Nathaniel and the black-clad mage tumbled to the ground. It was like being hit by a wall. Nathaniel lost his grip on his staff but found his sword to be near at hand. Picking it up he staggered to one knee in time to raise it and ward off his foe, who was about to drive his clasped hands down on Nathaniel's skull. The enigma growled and backed off, balls of flame forming around his hands.

Nathaniel rose and spoke a few words, boosting the magical defences around himself as the fireballs bombarded him one after the other. The two orbs of fire dissipated against the barrier around him and Nathaniel did not waste a moment. Charging at the Nameless Man, his blade glowing red with fury, Drakkon took the fight to his opponent.

Mordain kept his staff up, deflecting the attacks.

"I live for Weissland. It is all that is left for my to live for! The evils of this world have taken everything else from me, and I'll not let you and your kind take what remains!" he retorted. His grip around his staff tightened as the demon beneath his robes began to rise in strength. In his mind, the demon spoke to Mordain, demanding freedom from the containment of the robes so it could lay this foul enemy to waste. "To destroy the world is wrong; that is a coward's choice. Your belief in your master's cause only serves to show how weak you are!"

In a strong attack, he batted the creature's spear to one side before blasting the demon back with a focussed burst of black magic from his free hand.
