Nathaniel spoke quietly as he walked "I can sense taint, it's somewhere nearby but it is also elusive. These creatures are not like ordinary undead or demons, they're ancient things, difficult to sense until they're right on top of you."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Nameless Man moved quickly after Nhazhan. Their prey was close and getting closer by the moment.

Lauati had folded his wings back and moved on foot once he had found the others. The hunt would not take long.

The night was far from over as they walked. Their enemy could easily gain the element of surprise if they were not careful.

Mordain looked back at Nathaniel. "I sense them too. We need to make haste and stay alert."

-----

Nhazhan kept up a good pace, both the demon and the enigma easily keeping up. "It has... been a... long... time Lauati." rasped the creature.

-----

Far to the east, another shadow descended down upon the land. Darker than the deepest night, the shadow moved like a ravenous beast. But this was not the darkness of the Great Necromancer. No, this was something else.

Ulldomae had joined the hunt.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Nathaniel nodded and picked up his pace a bit. We're not out of the woods yet, he thought with grim irony.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lauati replied "Indeed Nhazhan, and now that the Master has called us forth there will not be time, or anything else, for much longer."

The Nameless Man said nothing, keeping up with the others but not speaking, as he rarely did. It seemed apparent that these two others had known each other previously though.

"I grew weary as I waited for the Master's summon. The world passed me by and I could do nought but watch... And wait. The spells of the... ancient Weissland mages... kept me trapped but they did not keep me... asleep as they had intended. Long... have I waited... and my hate has grown... strong." Nhazhan spoke with such horrific contempt. There was no doubt of his dedication to the Master's cause.

The Dragons moved on, but not without exchanging quick, worried looks. Dragons were fearless, but they all realized that Weissland would throw at them horrors that they were not prepared for. It made them uncertain of themselves. Ash needed to reestablish morale. He said, with all the courage he could muster, "Omegas, remember your training! Couple it with the guidance of our new friends and we will get through this!"

The Dragons nodded at their commander. They had to balance old and new and hope for the best. Ash prayed he could lead his men through this. He did not even know whom he was praying to. Only whom he was praying for.

Nathaniel swept through the wooded area, his sword at the ready and his staff prepared. For everything that was happening, the monsters hunting them, the world at stake, his approaching death, Nathaniel felt his blood surge through his body. He felt more alive at times like this than in times of peace. For a second he thought back to the brief celebrations in Asulien, the crowning of the King. Sure, Nathaniel thought, I was glad for the people, that Weissland had survived against the odds and would be at peace again for a time, but for myself I felt only boredom. Drakkon wanted the thrill of battle, the roar of combat, and the knife-edge between victory and defeat, life and death. It had become second nature to him. Some people just have to fight, he concluded.

James moved through the dragons as he walked onwards. His dark gaze resting on their surroundings.

Should you lay beaten and dying on the field, laugh with pride for even in death our enemies will fear us, leave them with a scar that will haunt them till the time of their retribution!" - Chaplain Valorus

They were making good progress, with the egde of the trees in sight now. But, as they walked on, Wyrillyn suddenly stopped, looking south.

"They're getting close-" he stopped again, his head spinning around to the east, "no..." he said in a hushed voice. "Quickly, move, MOVE!"

The aged elf began sprinting north with more speed than any had thought he possessed. Mordain was quick to follow.

Nathaniel broke into a run northward, following in Mordain's wake.

Nhazhan moved quickly north, his Master's voice telling him the way. There, far in the distance, he could see Mordain and his companions.

Nhazhan looked over to the enigma. "You sseem... to have a lot... of tricks up... your ssleeve. Can you sslow... them down..?"

-----

Mordain stopped and turned as the stench of his enemies' taint grew stronger.

"What are you doing, you fool? We need to keep moving!" exclaimed Wyrillyn.

"Our enemies are right there, and they are unlikely to give up this pursuit. We should end this here and now." replied Mordain, his grip tightening on his staff.

"No! Not them! A greater danger approaches from the east. We have to keep moving!"

Reluctantly, Mordain turned and once more followed his father.

The Nameless Man replied "I have no way of doing that beyond teleporting in front of them."

Lauati was close behind them.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nathaniel kept running although he felt that Mordain's idea to simply make a stand would be better than running. Eventually they would tire and be caught and have to fight regardless.

Nhazhan pressed forward, hoping to close the distance as quickly as possible. He wished that Anaila was with them: she was fast enough to quickly catch up to the prey.

The Nameless Man and Lauati rushed after Nhazhan, gradually they were gaining on the enemy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nathaniel kept moving, he looked over his shoulder to make sure the Realmers were keeping up.

Ash and his Dragons were in perfect shape, but some of them still hurt after the wounds they had suffered during their first hostile encounter with the dastardly monks. Still they all managed to repress the pain and kept up with their Weisslendish companions. They were all trying to see this danger that was approaching, but they saw no one - yet. They kept running. The Dragons had all come to realize that if they did not do exactly as Nathaniel and Mordain said, they would be dead.

Finally, Nhazhan could see his enemies clearly. He raised his hand and launched a bolt of black energy at the closest one, who looked to be nought but a simple warrior. The man's companions stopped, trying to pick him up.

-----

Mordain turned around sharply, seeing one of the Realmers upon the ground. He gripped his staff tightly.

"Now, we fight." he hissed as the foul creatures drew closer.

Nathaniel skidded to a stop and turned sharply, his robe whipping around. Quickly he yelled the words to a spell, sending a trio of fireballs out beyond the group to hit three seperate points. They created a line of flame along the ground that illuminated the area. The light of the flames flickered over the forms of the three approaching enemies.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lauati saw the flames leap up and uncased his wings, a beastial roar leaving his lungs as he looked at the group of mortals ahead of him.

The Nameless Man said nothing, as was usual for him, but held his hands in front of his chest facing each other. An orb of magical energy began to form there, and within a liquid began to appear. Even within the magical container, the liquid hissed and bubbled.

James pulled out a pistol crossbow and instinctively took aim. He let of a bolt and it flew straight, hitting one of the attackers in the eye.

Nhazhan recoiled as the arrow struck him, missing his eye by less than an inch but finding its mark upon his face none the less. The foul creature rose back to his full height and pulled the arrow free, his black blood soaking his face. He snarled and returned fire with another blast of dark energy, firing towards the man that had launched the arrow.

The fire barred his path, but Nhazhan dug his feet into the ground and then propelled high into the air, landing safely on the other side. Two of the humans were nearby; he threw them aside and moved towards Mordain, as well as the mage.

"You will... die..." he rasped.

-----

Wyrillyn looked around desperately. "No, no, NO!" he exclaimed before continuing north alone. "It's closer, too close! I won't let it claim me!"

Mordain didn't event notice Wyrillyn flee. His attention was on the task at hand; defeating these creatures.

"You couldn't kill us in Amei. Here will be no different." he retorted.

The Nameless Man released his dangerous spell, launching the orb of magic which contained a powerful acid. When the orb hit something it would shatter and release the acid. The Nameless Man had launched it at Mordain, and the object rose over the flames and then descended again on a direct path for Mordain.

Lauati flew up and raced towards the mortals. Twisting his body in the air, he landed a kick squarely in the chest of the human mage, sending him tumbling to the ground, although the man gripped his weapons tightly as if unwilling to let anything take them away. The blue-skinned demon, the King of Half-Truths, now turned his attention to the other mortals. He moved towards one of the soldiers, his demon spear at the ready.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everything distorted sharply as Nathaniel was knocked through the air and crashed to the ground, rolling until his momentum stopped. The demon had gotten the drop on him, moving faster than he had anticipated. Nathaniel pushed himself up to one knee, and looking up saw the magical container speeding towards Mordain. With a groan Nathaniel spoke the words to a counter-spell, deflecting the acid-filled orb and sending it crashing to the ground some distance away. The magic broke and the acid hit the ground, dissolving the grass in seconds and bubbling away in the soil as the water contained within and the remaining snow gradually began to neutralise it.
