As the monks prepared to depart, Laiya went over to Kelan's body and removed several things. The first was a pendant, which she now placed around her own neck; this was a sacred symbol of leadership. The next was his sword, which she handed to another monk. Thirdly, a small book, clasped to his belt; the holy scriptures. And finally, around one of his fingers, a ring, with a four-pointed star upon it. She held her hand out to the mage, offering the ring. |

((Well, Mordain could be described as a mage.)) Nathaniel looked at the ring in the monk's hand and asked "Why are you giving this to me?" His hood concealed much of his face, only his mouth and downwards could be seen clearly. |

((Yeah, but they know his name.)) "A token of good faith perhaps," said Laiya. "It will protect you against certain dark magic, but only to a degree; you musn't rely on it to defend you during battle, but it will give you enough defense to flee should you need it in a pinch." |

((Woah. This went fast. I was gone for one day and missed it all I will split this up in two parts. First one happens around Kelan's death. The second one is during the "negotiations" with Laiya)) [Part I] Ash managed to reach his target and swung his blade at the monk. The Weisslending parried, but with a quick movement, Ash kicked the man in his stomach, sending him flying backwards. Rushing to finish him off, a sudden agonizing scream sounded. Ash did not hesitate, but thrust his sword in the monk's chest, twisting the blade before he extracted it from the dying Weisslending. He then looked up and glanced at the battle. The monks had halted and it looked as if Nathaniel and Mordain had defeated the leader of the monks. Realizing that the battle was over, Ash rushed to his fallen Dragons. Six of the eleven Dragons under his command lay on the ground. John was still standing, Ash could see, sword held tight, scanning for enemies. Blood was gushing out of a wound in his side. Ash ran to help him. John colapsed into his leader's arms and drew his final breath without a word, without a scream. Ash closed his eyes as he put the dead Dragon down on the ground and ran to see if he could help any of the other wounded Dragons. As Ash, James and Zuka attempted to save their dying comrades, Ash was surprised, but delighted to see Nathaniel and Mordain kneeling on the ground, attempting to heal two fallen Dragons as well. Apart from Ash, James, Zuka only two Dragons survived this encounter with these dastardly monks. Zuka's left shoulder had been dislocated. Jason had several lighter wounds on his torso and Marius suffered internal bleedings. Only after the battle had ended did Ash notice a sharp pain in his chest. He felt his ribs with his left hand and realized that three of his ribs had been broken. Tomas had died. Seven Dragons had perished in a matter of minutes. Ash felt the hatred burn inside. He ordered his remaining men to stand ready, but not to engage any of the monks unless ordered to do so. [Part II] Ash had remained out of the conversation between the Dragons' Weisslendish allies and their "former" enemies. This battle had caused them dearly and Ash was not sure if he had spent the lives of seven Omega Dragons. Or if he had wasted them. The Dragon commander hurt inside. He needed to get some things straight. Nathaniel was talking with the female monk. Ash's patience was running out. As she explained about some kind of ring, Ash attempted to lock eyes with Nathaniel. They needed to talk! |

Nathaniel looked at the ring and said "Thank you, that is a generous gift." He took the ring, holding it between thumb and forefinger examining it for a moment before looking back at the female monk to see if she had anything else to say. |

Laiya walked back to the rest of the monks and nodded to them. They began to wink out, and Laiya turned to look at the group they were leaving behind and said, "Aracen speed." before she too disappeared in a flash of white light. --Leaving Lekath Grasslands-- --Entering Asulien-- |

Nathaniel waited until the monks were gone before turning towards the rest of the group. He noticed the impatient look in Ash's eyes and without addressing him directly the black-clad mage said "Well?" |

Ash approached Nathaniel and looked the man straight in the eyes, "Who were these monks? Whose side are they on? I need some answers, Nathaniel! I want to know why my men died; I need to know why more of my men might die soon if we follow you on your path!" |

Nathaniel looked down at Ash, towering over the man due to his great height. The mage said darkly "They are the Monks of Aracen, they are on their own side with their own agenda. Their self-righteous crusade against Lord Mordain has caused more harm than just the death of your men, unfortunate as that was. Your men died because they fought. If you fight you might lose, but if you don't fight you will never win. It is very simple young man, your men are being asked to sacrifice a great deal just as we all are. You might die if you follow us and fight against Krodalis and his minions, that is what happens when you face threats like this. Lord Mordain and I both know that, while the scale might be different this is the sort of threat we have faced since entering the service of Weissland. If we fail to stop Krodalis all of existence will come to an end, so unless we succeed nobody will be doing anything ever again." The mage turned slightly then turned back sharply, his voice taking on a harsh edge "Oh, and if you ever address either of us with that tone again I will break you. We have a saying in Weissland, do not try the patience of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger." ((Totally ripped the quote from Tolkien but it seemed appropriate.)) |

Ash remained motionless, stil glaring at the mage. When he had left the White Realm, Ash had plunged into an ocean. In the beginning he could feel the sea floor with his feet. It was only slightly harder than walking. But as his journey had carried on, he had suddenly found himself in deep waters. The bottom was gone. He was struggling for his life in an environment that was as foreign to him as the sky is for a worm. Things had developed into something he can no longer control or influence. He knew neither his foes nor his friends. His foes attacked and killed and halted their aggression just as quickly as they had struck. His friends stood by his side, healed his comrades and minutes later threatened his life. Ash had always wanted control. This had strained his relationship with Pezza. Now Ash was more a pawn than ever before. What was he to do? What does he care for Krodalis and his minions when all he had wanted to do was bring Fenix and his dastardly Clan to justice? Just as Nathaniel was in a completely different league, so was the scale of this quest of his. Ash asked himself, however, if he actually had any choice. They were deep inside Weissland now. At least for Ash they were deep inside. Their escape route was blocked by this "infection" in Amei. What other horrors might they not meet on their way if they attempted to reach another port town? How many renegade monks and nuns prowled the roads and woods of Weissland? Was he not better off, following this Nathaniel and his Lord Mordain, assisting in the achievement of some greater goal. He might not understand it, but from what he had heard it seemed that this Krodalis was a threat to all living creatures. Was it not time to abandon his petty former aspirations and fight for something that truly mattered? The way Ash saw it, he would not leave Weissland alive. If he was to die, it might as well be for a purpose. Only this way would the lives of his Dragons be spent and not wasted. Having made up his mind, Ash replied with a quiet voice, "Excuse my outburst, Nathaniel." Ash sighed and carried on, "I hate to admit it, but all of this is...I am completely ignorant about so much - it made me so incredibly frustrated. We will follow you. I know not exactly who or what your enemy is, but it feels right to follow you and to assist you in any way we can. My men have not died for nothing. I will prove that!" |

"To be lost and without knowledge of what is happening is something I know well. These events are bigger than we are, they are difficult to comprehend." The mage paused for a moment, remembering his exile, before saying "Suffice it to say, if we can stop Krodalis and the immortal creatures that caused so much death and destruction at Amei, you'll have saved the world. That should impress your superiors in the White Realm." |

Ash nodded and thought to himself that he had no supperiors to impress. Still, Ash found this cover useful - if he was to say that the Dragons were not truly affiliated with the White Realm the fragile trust between Nathaniel and Ash would be strained. Besides, the Dragons were practically affiliated with the Lord of the Realm. It was ironic - Ash had departed from the Realm so as to make the Battalion independant of the Realm and now its ties with the Lord were an advantage. "If the stakes are truly so high, than we shall follow you to the bitter end! We have nothing to lose, yet it seems that there is everything to gain!" Ash stated proudly. He saw that James had been listening to it. James gave his commander a nod of agreement. |

Kristian felt his whole body surge with a new, strange sensation. The divine light consumed him and he was gone, along with the monks. --Kristian leaves Lekath Grasslands-- --Entering Asulien-- "We need to make haste!" exclaimed Wyrillyn. In truth, now that the boy was gone, he seemed far more anxious. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

"Then we should get going." Nathaniel said. Holding the two-handed axe out at arms length the mage began to speak the words to a tranmutation spell. The axe began to shine with an earie glow and Nathaniel let go of it. The axe hovered in the air as he continued the spell. Gradually the axe began to change, the blade deformed, almost crumpling in upon itself, while the wooden haft grew slightly. There was a flash of light obscuring the weapon for just a brief instant and then it had changed completely. Nathaniel put his hand around the item, plucking it out of the air. No more was it an ornate two-handed axe, now it was Nathaniel's new staff. The majority of the staff was smooth dark-stained wood. The top piece was made of metal, the metal attaching to the wood much like the axehead had, although it was now elongated compared to what it had been previously. The top of the staff taipered out to form an intricate dragon with splayed wings and below the dragon, embossed on both sides of the metal top piece as it moved down towards the wood, there was an image of a sword pointing downwards. The mage looked at it from beneath his concealing hood and said "There, that should do fine." He slipped the ring into a small pouch at his belt and started walking. |
