--Enters from Turschen Wood--

Mordain moved quickly from the trees, insuring that his companions kept pace. He did not want to be out in the open for long.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Nathaniel quickened his pace slightly to put himself ahead of the Realmers and behind Mordain, the boy and the former prisoner.

Mordain looked back as they walked, seeing the Realmers falling behind.

"Quickly! We cannot risk being in the open for long!" he called, before continuing on.

Nathaniel continued on. He was thinking of their trip, it was a long way to Asulien and the monks would likely hound them all the way, not to mention they would be hunted by their real enemy as well.

The mage was just working out a rough estimate of how many days it would take when it hit him like a hammerblow to the chest. He stopped dead in his tracks for a moment, the two-handed axe falling down to his side from his shoulder. The pain was almost dizzying, but Nathaniel tried to fight it off and keep walking. One foot after the other, Drakkon moved onwards, but he had slowed to what his original pace had been. His time was running out.

Ash and his Dragons kept up with their guides, but none of them felt easy about this trek. They were following these Weisslendings, trusting them blindly, going deep into this strange and unfamiliar territory. Ash hated it. His Dragons hated it. Ash could feel how many of his men were angry with Ash's decision to go to Weissland, seeing as what mess it had gotten them in. Fenix was out of reach and so was Fizban Dantares. Ash wondered exactly what he was going to do whenever the Weisslendings reached their destination. Most of all he wanted to return to the Realm and reform the Dragon Battalion into a public mercenary organization. His dreams of a new Battalion with Dantares' help seemed shrowded in the shadows of impossibility and if none would support him in the reformation (Pezza and the likes of Ghendo and Phil would definately be agains it), Ash longed to leave the Realm and head north to his old homeland. It was probably as poor and war-torn as when he had left it, but he was tired of the Realm, of the Realm's wars and of the Serpent Clan. For the first time in his life, Ash simply wanted to desert and be rid of all the misery that had plagued his life since Fenix's departure. He had hoped that Weissland would hold the key to a new, better life, but he had been greatly mistaken, a mistake that could cost him dearly. His Alpha Dragons were loyal, but their loyalty was not limitless. Alpha Dragons were arrogant and did not like inefficient leadership. They all thought that they could handle it better. Ash had been a formidable, almost flawless leader until the moment they set foot upon Weisslandish soil. The last he wanted to experience was mutiny. Yet he could not help but feel that a mutiny would be quite in order. What a disaster, he thought as he kept on moving.

--Entering from Turschen Woods--

Suddenly, the host of monks appeared in a loose ring around the traveling company, Kelan first, followed quickly by the others, and finally Laiya, right next to Kelan. "Halt!" Kelan shouted, holding his hand outward. Laiya's hand fell uneasily to her sheathed sword as she surveyed the company of soldiers now with their quarry. They seemed to be hardened, but no matter; they would be no match for the monks if it came to blood, which hopefully it would not.

"Stand aside, soldiers!" shouted Laiya. "We have no quarrel with you!"

Ash looked bewildered at the woman who had spoken, then at Nathaniel and Mordain. A tight grip on his blade hilt and ready to defend himself, Ash remained silent. With a subtle hand command he ordered his Dragons to remain quiet, still, yet vigilant.

"Leave!" shouted Laiya, almost desperately. "There has been too much bloodshed already! Please, go! This does not concern you!"

Nathaniel said to Ash "They'll probably leave you alone if you decide not to get involved. You should do what's best for yourselves." He dropped the two-handed axe to the grass and drew his own sword. The blade shone vermillion.

Ash was confused. He whispered to Nathaniel, "What are you going to do?" Ash felt a surprising feeling of loyalty to the Weisslendings that saved them from certain death in Amei. He still held on to his sword. He would not abbandon the Weisslendings if they would need the Dragons' help. They owed them that much, Ash felt. He had not forgotten all of the Dragon code in his search for glory and independance from the Realm.

"For Aracen's sake, man, move out of the way!" screamed Laiya.

"Silence, Laiya!" shouted Kelan, and as he turned to face her, his face was dark and murderous.

Nathaniel replied to the younger man "I have to fight them, its the right thing for me to do. You should get your men out of here."

"We have no where to go. The way I see it, we are better off sticking with you!" Ash said defiantly and drew his sword. A heartbeat later, ten more blades were drawn.

((Ten, because I cannot know if James would do so too. Up to Andy))

((How is Ash supposed to know that? Since he can't know that on beforehand, I roleplay as such. As long as they don't all die, it's ok with me.))

Nathaniel gave a curt nod to Ash, impressed by their fortitude. He raised his sword in front of him in a defensive stance as he returned his focus to the monks surrounding them. He spoke the words to a spell, raising magic defences around him and the Realm soldiers. Drakkon was not going to make it easy for the monks to ruin the Realmer's heroic little gesture.

Ash remained on Nathaniel's right side, both hands tightly holding his ancient blade.

The other Dragons spread out to form a defensive circle. Zuka quickly moved to the left of Ash, nodding to his commander as he did so. Ash was glad to see that his Dragons did not hesitate to fight. A Serpent might have ran from this. A Dragon, however, would stand his ground. Ash nodded back to Zuka and then turned to face the mysterious threat surrounding them.

((I know, I just wanted to make sure you were ok with that.))

Laiya, startled by the expression on Kelan's face, was stunned into silence.

Turning back to the group of enemies before him, Kelan narrowed his eyes and then threw his hands forward. The four soldiers closest to Mordain and the mage were immediately flung aside, and that was the signal. All around the tight defensive circle, the monks began to attack. Streams of white magic and bursts of white lightning shot out, knocking the soldiers aside and killing some of them outright.

Laiya was horrified by the ease with which Kelan had thrown the initial soldiers aside. She had seen no magic come from him, no white divine energy. What was happening?

Nathaniel sprinted forward as he bellowed "Take the fight to them, get in close! For Weissland!" It was not until after that he realised he was yelling this to soldiers that were not from Weissland, but it was second nature to him.

The black-clad mage shouted words of power as he ran towards two of the monks. Aiming a hand at one of them, bright blue lightning shot forth from his palm and hit the monk in the face. The lightning tore through the man, bursting his eyeballs and filling his mouth with acrid fumes as he dropped dead. Nathaniel Drakkon rushed into combat with the second monk, clashing sword upon sword. Nathaniel made three rapid slashes, and while they were blocked the momentum pushed the monk back a few steps.

((I will take temporary control of James, as it would not make sense for Ash's second in command not to take a real part in this. I hope Andy's ok with it.))

Ash and Zuka had both been blasted to the ground by the monks' opening spell. Ash could hear bell rings, but he managed to clear his vision quickly and jumped to his feet without wasting a second more in the grass. Nathaniel shouted his command at this very moment and Ash at once stormed towards the nearest of the monks.

Zuka was a second slower to recover than his commander. As he leapt to his feet, Zuka saw two of his fellow Dragons get blasted backwards by some powerful spell. Zuka had no time to check on them. He charged a nearby monk and swung his longsword at him.

James had not been hit by any of the magical attacks. He was in the opposite end of the circle from Ash and Nathaniel. James threw his metal disk at a monk, slicing the target's cartoid artery. He then helped a Dragon up and ran to close in on another monk.
