Anailla kept to the darkness. She had taken out another four Seekers, without anyone noticing. But now she would have to up her game. It was only a matter of time before the Weisslanders began to question the whereabouts of the dead. ----- Mordain moved down a street. He stopped when he saw something move, rather suddenly off to his right. He turned sharply and moved over to a house, its door wide open and not a light to be found within. The eyes of the raven on his staff gave out a purple glow, illuminating his path. In his free hand he began building an orb of magic to be unleashed upon his foe. Closer... closer... close- A cat yelped and shot from the darkness, vanishing up the street. Mordain watched it leave then leaned on his staff, allowing his magic to dissipate. He breathed heavily. "Tired, Mordain?" The Mage of Shadows turned, but too slow to prevent Anailla kicking him into the dark house. She flew in after him and put her sword through his shoulder. "Aaarrghhh!" roared the mage. His eyes pierced the shroud and fixed upon the Seraphim. "You would dare?" In the next instant, there was a flash of purple light and the Seraphim was thrown from the building and skidded along the earth. By the time Mordain rose, however, she was gone. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

As Nathaniel made his way through the upper floor of the meeting hall he heard some commotion somewhere outside. He stopped in his tracks and listened hard, but heard nothing further, no calls for help or alarm. Whatever enemy was here was hunting them, Drakkon knew that. It was just a matter of time though, until it's tricks and traps failed. Nathaniel was attuned to waiting, biding his time for the moment to turn the hunter into the hunted. |

Mordain looked around, his eyes scanning both the skies and the streets. The Seraphim was here, and she would not escape with her life. Cautiously he began moving onward, keeping the light from his staff bright and shining it in every dark corner before moving past them. Two Seekers appeared from another street. "Lord Mordain?" asked one, puzzled by his Lord's hesitant stance. "Quiet!" snapped the Mage of Shadows. "The enemy is here. A winged woman with skin black as this very night and a blade that will strike you down before you even realise it has happened." His teeth were gritted and his left shoulder resonated with incredible pain. Anailla's blade had gone straight through. "My Lord, your arm?!" exclaimed the other Seeker. Mordain rounded on him in a second and clamped his fist tightly about the man's throat. "I said," he began in a venomous whisper, "to stay quiet!" Up ahead, the three men heard playful and unsettling laughter. Mordain fixed his gaze and began to move with the two Seekers following behind. |

Nathaniel had searched the area and found nothing beyond the dead. Walking down the stairs he looked over at one of the tables in the meeting hall and saw the body of the Seeker pushed hastily beneath it. Nathaniel sighed but said nothing. He tightened his grip on his longsword and moved on, heading for the door. This enemy was playing games with them, not staying to fight. He left the meeting hall and stepped outside. Standing there in the dark he looked at the faint red sheen on his blade, it was not strong, it could sense no strong magic nearby which it was not already accustomed to. |

"Did you know that a Seraphim can see into the dreams of mortals, Nathaniel?" asked Anailla, casually strolling out from an alley to stand in front of the mage. Her blade was in her hand and by her side. Not threatening, but certainly not out of reach should a defensive move become necessary. ----- Mordain and the Seekers kept moving. This was the first of Krodalis's minions they had faced where they had the upper hand. Mordain had no intention of wasting such an opportunity. In his mind he called out to the dark sorcerer. She's going to die, you cretin. Just like the rest of your followers. And just like you. I swear it! |

Nathaniel looked coldly at the winged woman and replied nonchalantly "I can't say I did, you learn something new every day. Dreams, nightmares, it's all the same to me. It just means I've been doing my job putting evil like you to the sword." His sword was in his hand, the shimmering glow deepened momentarily as Nathaniel flexed his sword arm. The mage pulled his hood down and cocked his head to one side slightly, looking up at the night sky. He said "Tonight's as good a night as any..." |

"I thought as much. You are strong. Drathmor was a fool to try and recruit you." She gave a malevolent smile. "You are not possessed of a mind that would break easily. Flesh, on the other hand..." The Seraphim surged forward and made to slash Nathaniel across his sword arm, but the mage was quick. He blocked. Seeing no other openings for an attack, Anailla rushed forward again and knocked Nathaniel to the ground with her shoulder. She drew her sword quickly towards his neck. |

Even lying on the ground Nathaniel was not unprepared. He drew his sword up and dug it into the ground at an angle at the side of his head, blocking the attack. Rolling sideways the mage got back to his feet and pulled his sword up into a defensive pose. He quickly spoke the words to a spell. As it finished a burst of energy rushed out to strike the seraphim before launching up into the air where it exploded in a shower of bright colour. A combination of an attack and a beacon to the rest of the force, Nathaniel knew how to multi-task. |

Anailla shrieked as she saw the flash of light, knowing that it would signal the other Weisslanders. She made a quick strike and kicked out at Nathaniel; it achieved little more than putting him off-balance, but it bought her time to began her ascent into the air. She could not defeat all her foes at once. Yet, as she made to escape, she was gripped by what she could only assume was Nathaniel's magic and pulled back to the ground. Anailla was smashed into the ground and her blade flew from her grasp. As she made to grab it, a heavy boot came to rest over the blade. The seraphim looked up to see Mordain Thaendil standing over her. "Good work, Nathaniel." said the Mage of Shadows. "You'll get nothing from me, Mordain!" said Anailla, spitting after speaking his name. Mordain looked down at her and then kneeled, so that their eyes were level. "Don't be so sure." |

"All will perish, one way or the other. I am destined to be destroyed, whether by your hand or the hand of the Master. It does not matter which." said Anailla, no longer looking anyone in the eye. "Where is Krodalis?" asked Mordain sternly. The seraphim, however, began to laugh almost maniacally. "Where? WHERE?! He is everywhere, He is eternal. You cannot track the Master, Mordain. He is not some mongrel necromancer bound by flesh and bone." "Then where is the plague demon? The one that sentenced the people of Amei to death." "Their deaths were merciful. They felt no pain." Mordain's hand flew from his side and struck Anailla with great force, knocking her back to the ground and breaking her lip. "Do not dare tell me that such things are merciful!" Anailla spat the blood from her mouth and then looked back at Mordain. "You can play the bleeding heart all you want, Mordain, but you know as well as I do that it is an act! You do not grieve for the dead, do not mourn the loss of Amei, and you know it as well as I do. You're only pretending to care because that is what your new King would expect from you. Wait..." the seraphim tilted her head, "what's this? Do I detect... fear?" Anailla burst out laughing as hysteria washed over her. "Fear?! The great Mordain Thaendil feels fear!" Mordain gestured to a group of Seekers. "Take her into one of these buildings and secure her. I will deal with this filth soon." The Seekers began dragging Anailla away. She didn't struggle, only kept laughing. "Fear! HA! It doesn't matter how much you play the good boy, Mordain! Weissland forsook you once, and it will do so again. Your time is fading, Mordain. The world that needs your kind is fading!" Mordain did not look back at Anailla, but his grip around his staff tightened. She had seen into his mind. That was unfortunate. "No one else is to speak with her. I will take care of her myself." His gaze shot towards Nathaniel and the remaining Seekers, before he spoke again in a tone that bore venom even by his standards; "Understood?" |

Mordain turned and walked away before standing opposite the building Anailla was being held in. He leaned against the wall and sighed. All his power, all his rage, all his strength... it had all proved worthless when trying to keep secrets from even the simplest of Krodalis' minions. "My Lord, she has been secured." said a Seeker, saluting Mordain as he stood there. "Good." "Lord Mordain, she said something about-" Mordain's hand shot from his side to grip the Seeker firmly by the scruff of his neck and pull him close. "Whatever she said, put it out of your mind. You will not see her alive ever again, so her words are of no concern to you. Do you understand?" "Yes, yes my Lord!" "Now leave." |

Nathaniel sheathed his sword and retrieved his staff from the ground. He strode away to the edge of Melldin to check the perimeter, wanting to ease the feeling that this was not entirely over. Once he was away from any of the others he looked around at the darkness beyond the broken settlement. Drakkon was sure this was not going to be as easy as it first seemed. |

Mordain walked into the house and found Anailla bound as he had instructed. The room was dark, and after he closed the door it was swallowed by complete shadow. "You cannot break me, Mordain. I will not whimper before your tools." said Anailla, almost laughing again. Mordain said nothing. He didn't even step into sight. Anailla searched the darkness for him, but could see nothing. "How does it feel to know that your time is slipping away? Your purpose is gone, or at least it is fading. Lathaon saw you as useful. He looked upon you as a rabid animal he could unleash upon his enemies. But the young James has more of a... moral compass. He will not see the purpose behind your methods." Again, Anailla searched the darkness. She could see nothing, she could hear nothing. She had no idea where Mordain had gone. A faint, shimmering purple orb appeared above her and shone a light down to illuminate her. It did nothing to brighten the shadows about her, though. "He will see you only as what you are; a monster. And there will be no place for monsters in James Castoden's Weissland. He will cast you out again. Weissland will watch and cheer as monsters like you are hunted down and destroyed." She began to laugh. "It doesn't matter how many times you save them, Mordain. Weissland will never follow a monster!" Mordain erupted from the shadows and rushed up to her in a mere moment, the top-half of his robe discarded and his demonic side there for her to see. His hands clamped upon the sides of her head and forced horrific, chaotic energy into her mind. "You know nothing of me, whore! LOOK AT ME!" Anailla opened her eyes through her screams but then recoiled again as soon as she looked into his eyes. "Master! Help me, I be-g you!" "HE CAN'T SAVE YOU!" Mordain's fury was erupting from within him, wild and unchecked. He pushed his hands down harder and intensified the magical assault. "Where will I find the plague demon and the others? ANSWER ME!" "Nh-Nha-Nhazhan is in-n Val-aloruin..." "And the others?" "I don't k-know!" "WHERE ARE THEY?" Mordain's demonic magic poured from his hands to the point that the sides of Anailla's head began to burn. "I don't know! Master, Master, save me! Help m-me!" "Worthless creature!" His hands dug in deeper and then, with one mighty heave, he pulled her head from her shoulders. |

Nathaniel looked up at the sky, seeing the stars between the clouds. He began to notice that snow was starting to fall. There was nothing but death here, the weather could not hope to conceal that no matter how heavy the snow might become. It sickened him, as it had always done so, when the innocent died. Someone should have been here to protect them. |

Mordain walked over to Nathaniel. His robes were repaired and his composure intact. As he had walked, he had heard mutterings within the Seeker ranks. His execution of Anailla was hardly subtle, but it had yielded success. "Valoruin is where we will find the plague demon. Of the others, I do not know." said Mordain. He had moved to stand parallel with Nathaniel, but he looked across the ground and not the sky. The glimmer of stars was little but another of life's cruel reminders to him. |

Nathaniel nodded, before looking at Mordain, as if he had been shaken from some sort of trance. He suggested "Then we should move to Valoruin immediately, I will not see another city fall prey to that disease, especially Valoruin, not while there is life in my body. I suppose the King will need to be notified as well."
