Grendion Anath woke up early that morning, hoping to get out and ride before he had to get back and start his work. He had been very stressed lately, with his relationship with Tiffany being increasingly complicated. He was certain he loved the girl, and wanted to be around her as much as possible, but whether or not she felt the same was in question. It had been difficult for him to get his mind off of her, but riding was the one thing which seemed to make him forget about anything else, and was the one thing that helped him to get away from this small town. He loved Amn, he loved his family, but he always longed for something more; the Order Guard had always been his dream, but with his ailing mother and the rest of his family stretched thin, Grendion knew he could not leave.

Walking out to the stable, Grendion picked up his saddle and began to put it on his horse, Estrella. "How are you this morning, girl?" he asked as he saddled her up. Grendion finished strapping the saddle to Estrella then untied her and led her out into the field. Stopping for a moment to take a deep breath, Grendion stepped up onto his horse and heeled her gently, getting her into a trot out into the fields.

Khurunis Balo walked with a slow stride along the track. He idly ran his fingers through his hair, pulling it out of his face and back neatly into place behind his ear. He was not entirely sure where the road was leading but it was going towards a town.

The Dwarf shrugged his pack and moved the strap until it settled properly against his back. It had been a long trek. Khurunis wondered if he would find something to do in this town, or maybe in the surrounding land. He was impatient to prove himself worthy of becoming a Marsh Warrior, a proud tradition amongst his family.

Caladan sat against a tree, staring at the map. He was regretting his decision to push on through half the night in the hopes of reaching Amn before he had to set up camp and rest, having misjudged the distance and lost hours of sleep for nothing. Could he have passed it? No, there was no reason to think so. He had kept to the road, after all, though it had left him alone.

The elf had heard little about Amn, but he had intended to stay a night and continue on. A real bed was a luxury by now. Silverfield was a long way from home, but it was a new land to him, large enough to have wrongs he might put right, and not too close to the capital. He would have to find some way of earning some money, as well.

Grendion rode at a brisk trot out of the fields and down a dirt road. While the road seemed unassuming to anyone who was not familiar with the area, it was in reality one of the major travel routes between Silverfield and Carrelon, and upon inspection many cart ruts could be seen, worn away over many years of trade and travelers. Seeing a small, thin whisp of smoke rising from a small clump of trees some distance away, Grendion jabbed Estrella slightly and began to trot over in that direction; Grendion always liked to talk to travelers, find out what was happening in the outside world, and perhaps these travelers had some good information.

Taklinn Ungart woke with a start. He had been camping just within sight of some human town, Amn, in a small ditch some ways off the road, though the ditch was large enough for a dwarf to sleep comfortably in. He had been having a bad dream, but he couldn't remember it. He got up, packed his bedroll, and walked towards the road. Perhaps something interesting would happen in Amn.

As Khurunis continued along the road he saw a young man on a horse riding off from the track towards the smoke of a fire. The Dwarf continued on the track and then headed off after the rider. At least this way he could get some information about the town.

Vakaz did not like the way the three humans in the inn were staring at him. Things had gotten heated in the Gupagulos and Vakaz was tired of running from the guards. His most recent assassination of Milubur of Eteriya had made his head the top priority of almost all official authorities and their respective law enforcement and miliatry organizations. The trip from the Gupagulos to the Order had not been easy and Vakaz quckly found out that humans were not too fond of Lizardmen. Vakaz smirked at this thought and took another sip of his soup. He could not blame the humans. For all they cared, Lizardmen were just brainless beasts who were ravaging their ships. Vakaz turned his head slightly and locked gaze with one of the staring townsmen. The dirty man quickly looked away and reinitated a conversation with his two friends. Vakaz turned again and finished his soup. He stood up and slowly walked to the barmaid. She was, to Vakaz' surprise, neither terrified nor very curious about Vakaz and his business. She was of medium height, with dirty blond hair and wore a dirty, brown apron over her clothes.

"Thank you for the soup, madam. Do you have any available rooms?" Vakaz asked politely.

"I am sorry," she replied calmly, "they are all taken. Well," she halted for a moment, "they are all reserved in any case."

Vakaz cursed inside his mind. He took out his pouch and studied its contains. He did not have much money left anyways. He would sleep in the wild. It would be nothing new.

The barmaid appologized anew. Vakaz smiled to her and whispered, "Goodbye". He then turned to leave. The three townsmen were glaring at him again. He was annoyed, but did not want any trouble. He opened the inn door and exited it. Vakaz fastened his belt and took out his bow. Amn was not a large town, Vakaz realized. Still, he needed to find Gabriella and deliver her the message. He wanted to find her without having to ask the locals, deeming that such inquiries might awaken unwanted suspicion.

As Grendion neared the small crop of trees, he could hear voices and loud snoring. Seems like a large group, he thought to himself. And foreign, too. He got excited, hoping that they new Common and could tell him of far-away lands and tales. The language was rough and barbaric, but Grendion was hopeful as he dismounted his horse and began walking closer to the trees.

Khurunis saw the human dismount from his horse and head towards the trees. The Dwarf picked up his pace and muttered under his breath about humans being too fast, running about when others were trying to catch up to them.

He swept around in an arc as he moved to keep a wide berth from the horse and headed towards both the trees and the man. He did not want to call out as he did not know these lands and could not be bothered drawing too much attention.

As Grendion reached the clump of trees, he could begin to make out small shapes outlined against the dim glow of the fire. He walked forward slowly, not wanting to startle the travelers and trying to make out who they were. All of a sudden, he stopped in his tracks. The creatures sitting around the fire were green and gray-skinned, stocky, and cruel-looking. Even though he had never seen one, he was sure that these were the horrible Orcs from the north. But what were they doing here? All the way in Amn? Grendion stood there and did not know what to do.

Khurunis Balo walked slowly towards the man. He was standing still near the trees. The Dwarf tried to move making just enough noise that the man would notice him.

Grendion spun about, startled, fumbling for his dagger for a moment before yanking it out. Before him was a short dwarf, armed, but whose features he could not entirely make out in the early morning darkness. Grendion held his dagger out threateningly, but immediately felt as if he was going to die.

Khurunis ignored the weapon and said quietly "What's the name of the town that track leads to?"

"Amn," said Grendion, glancing back at the Orcs; he knew the Dwarves and Orcs were friends, at least at the national level, but he did not know if this Dwarf was fond of Orcs or not. Would he give him away?

Khurunis nodded as he learned the name of the town. Then he gave the human a quizzical look and asked "Something wrong lad?"

Grendion shook his head; if the Dwarf had not heard or seen the Orcs, it was better not to say anything. "No," he said. "Nothing at all."

Khurunis could tell something was not right. He said "What's with the smoke, campfire perhaps?"

Grendion looked at the Dwarf and then at his horse; he wondered if he could make a break for Estrella and escape, or if the Dwarf would even try to stop him. The Dwarf was heavily-armed, however, and looked like a warrior. Deciding it was better to try to reason with the Dwarf, Grendion said, "There are Orcs there; they shouldn't be there. Please don't warn them."

Khurunis nodded and asked almost casually "Sounds bad. Do you have any soldiers in town?"

Grendion looked suspiciously at the Dwarf, wondering aloud, "Why do you want to know?"
