((I'm assuming this is Hubert's stronghold? If not, then I'll have to edit this description. To be perfectly honest, if a Realmer could read over the description and just tell me if it works or if it needs changing, then that would be good.)) The ancient stronghold of Gar-Dora backed into a mountain. The fortress itself was constructed high in the mountain side, with a path carved into the very rock to allow access. The eastern side of the fortress was partially demolished, leaving great gaping holes in the walls. But pallisades and quick stonework had been done to reinforce it as much as possible. Below it, the terrain was barren and free of both plant and animal life. But ruins of an old city dominated the landscape. All in all, the look of the place combined with the titanic size of the fortress made it an incredibly intimidating sight to behold. Within the throne room, the Necromancer Lord, Hubert Lorroth, sat. He was not the broadest of men, though he was tall. Black robes covered his form. Rimmed in gold, they were elegant. His spaulders were mail with a skull mounted upon each. The eyes of the skulls glowed with eerie, green fire. He wore no hood. Instead, a vampiric-style collar rose around the back of his robes, rising to just below the top of his head. It was black on the inside and dark purple on the inside. Like the robes, it too was rimmed in gold. Hubert's hair was grey, though kept neat. His face was a colourless one. His very skin had almost turned grey, losing all signs of life. And his eyes... where white should have been, there was black, and pools of chaotic red had replaced the iris. Truly this man was powerful. That much was obvious at a mere glance. A lesser necromancer stood before him, bowing before he spoke. "My Lord, a messenger tells that Baron Yossef will be arriving shortly." "I should hope so." Hubert's voice was like the coldest of winds from the farthest north. It drained the colour from men's faces and the warmth from their hearts. "There is much to be discussed, for the Realmers draw near. Get out." The necromancer bowed and left, quickly. Hubert stared at the wall at the far end of his throne room. He was deep in thought. At the base of his fortress, within the ruins of the old city, was his army. They had made camp there and waited only on his word to march to battle. But he would need the added strength of both Yossef and Notratrat's forces to triumph against the Realmers. ((Very nice and fitting description. The only thing that I would say is that the fortress is in fact partly destroyed. Some of it has been reconstructed, but some of it is in disrepair still. Check this out ![]() Otherwise it seems perfect. How large an army do you imagine he has stationed there?)) Baron Yoseff and Yurik were riding in the front of the small force. They were approaching the stronghold of Gar-Dora. The Baron wore his preferred outfit - combat armour. It was of very elaborate design. The metal was black as coal, but every rim and edge was coloured blood red. His helmet obscured his entire face save his mouth. He was quite an intimidating sight upon his black, armoured steed. Yurik looked less impressive, simply because his build was not as large as his father's. Yurik's armour ressembled that of his father, even though it was less detailed and Yurik had preferred not to take his helmet on. The Baron exclaimed, "Ah, but there comes one of Hubert's messengers or officers or whatever. I hope he has come to escort us to his master. I have no intentions of post-poning this conversation!" Yurik saw the approaching rider. The mountanous landscape was typically Shiverlandish. Clouds obscured the sun. It would begin to rain too, Yurik knew. "Me neither, father!" he said quietly. The Baron turned and looked at his son. "Easy now. The Realmers are not here yet." "Yes, father" was the reply. "I will not fail you!" "I know, my son" Yoseff said. What he was thinking was I hope so, my son, but he had to strengthen the young man's confidence. Not that the Baron intended to let Yurik do any of the talking here, but his son still needed to appear confident and worth of being Baron Yoseff's son. |

((I was going to say it was a fairly large army, but I don't know the numbers for the Shiverland forces. How big would a 'fairly large' Shiverland army be?)) The messenger, a simple human, approached Baron Yoseff and his son on horseback. When he was close enough, he stopped his steed and bowed to the Baron. "Baron Yoseff, the Lord Hubert is expecting you. Please, I will lead you to him." |

((I am not sure either. One thousand humans and ten thousand undead?)) The Baron beckoned his men to follow with a hand gesture. "Lead on then!" He said to the messenger. |

((Fair enough. How big is your force, and the invading Realm force?)) The messenger nodded. He turned and led the way, with the Baron and his force following behind. Soon enough, they reached the fortress. The messenger stopped at the base of the path leading up to the fortress. "You may enter, Baron, but your forces shall have to await you outside. Lord Hubert only wishes to speak with you and any of your commaders or generals you should choose to bring." |

((Baron Yoseff's army is around 12 000 undead and 2000 humans strong. The one, which is currently accompanying him is only 1000 humans strong however - as mentioned in the Forest of Yurik thread, it is only a small escort group, as the Baron is not yet aware that the Realmers are preparing to march towards Gar-Dora. Keep in mind that this conversation is meant to take place while the Lord and Andy and all the others were still talking, so it is taking place a little prior to the most recent events in Gates of Grief and Crossroads topic As for the Realmish force, I really forgot how big it was. I will ask Andy.)) Baron Yoseff nodded. This was not unexpected. "I will bring my son, Yurik along as well as Captain Gidgoth, one of my best officers." Captain Gidgoth was the leader of the Elite Negoguards. He was a fierce warrior and a capable commander. His personal weapon was a large cleaver, slung on his back. His armour was grey and relatively light compared to that of the Baron. It was the same armour as the entire Elite Negoguard unit wore, except for his crimson left shoulder pad. Gidgoth barked a few orders to his subordinates and dismounted his steed. The Baron and Yurik did the same. As the three Yusorians (the name of the Baron's people) and the messenger walked towards the gate of the fortress, the escort force found a fitting place to set up a small camp. The Elite Negoguard who was left in command, Lieutenant Elt had his men set up a few scouting and defensive positions. He hoped that this would be a quick meeting. |

((I'll go with 15,000 undead and only 1,000 humans then, if that's cool?)) The doors to the throne chamber were thrown open by the messenger. Lord Hubert sat on his throne, his eyes falling upon the newcomers as they entered. When they were close enough, he said to the messenger, "Leave us." The messenger did so. Once he was gone, Hubert turned to Yoseff. "Welcome to Gar-Dora, Baron Yoseff. I understand you wish to speak with me about military tactics?" he said. His demonic eyes swept quickly over the other two. He recognised the Baron's son, Yurik, but not the other man. |

((You got it, Chadden And thanks, Andy))The Baron made a small bow with his head, a motion replicated by his son and Gidgoth. "Hubert, without the intention of sounding arrogant, I believe that no Necromancer in Shiverland knows more about military tactics than I do. No, we have come to discuss our joint strategy against the Realmers. I say we join our forces, ask Notatrat and Illumberg to contribute with troops as well and we send a crushing offensive upon the Realmish forces at the Gates of Gried, where they have no defensive fortifications - where they are exposed!" |

(Ok the oldest stuff had 50k men stationed ready for war at Mjolnir. 60k are in the white city, but they are remaining there for the realms final defence. Of the 50 thousand men, We have around ten thousand knights all in all. Thirty thousand standard soldiers And around ten thousand from specialist regiments, including Ahm-sphere, Axemen of glory So our total number is fairly massive. Say around five thousand stay at the gates of greif rather than the shiverland side, dead gate, then we have 45 thousand men.) Edited by High Marshal Andy, Feb 2 2009, 04:06 PM.

((All right, Andy. That seems about right then. ))"Why, Hubert, if we crushed this Realmish force, the doors into the White Realm would be open. They are worn tired after their war with Weissland. Our action now is part of the grand plan! This is a golden opportunity. This won't be a binding alliance. We just join forces, crush the Realmers and then the Realm will be up for grabs!" the Baron replied, his voice and gestures passionate. |

Baron Yoseff ignored the first question and concentrated on the last one, "Ah, but Hubert. I, and not the least - my son" he said loudly as he grabbed Yurik by the shoulders, "know more about Realmish warfare than anyone else in Shiverland. You know that my strength has never been in sophisticated dark magic. Yes, I know quite a few spells and can maintain my undead army, but I am not nearly as potent a sorcerer as you for instance are. I have become powerful because I am a soldier and I think like a soldier. If you want concrete advice as proof, then I can tell you that the Realmers believe in their "honour and glory" so much that they are willing to sacrifice large numbers of men to save a few. This we can use to our advantage, amongst other things" Yoseff said before he let go of his son. |

Notatrat sat in the castle of cruelty seeing the conversation that was going on between the other two necromancer lords. He was sitting looking at a large mirror. What it showed was through the eyes of Hubert's captain who stood in the same room. Notatrat couldn't help but smile, he loved dark magic, it was so much fun to play with. |

The Baron pushed his son in the back. Yurik swallowed, straightened his pose and spoke with more confidence than he actually felt, "I have studied them, sir. Many written records about their tactics, strategies and various famous and not-so-famous battles." The Baron quickly took over, "The boy is eager to put his knowledge to the test and to gain some first-hand experience against these White Fools, whom we may ridicule but must never underestimate!" |

Hubert leaned his elbows on the arms of his throne, whilst raising his hands to touch his fingertips together before him. "I would hope, Baron, that the knowledge your son has gained greatly outweighs the fact that, in order to gain such knowledge, he has read texts that are forbidden to him?" His eyes remained on Yurik as he spoke. "Never one for necromancy were you, boy?" |

Yurik felt his cheeks blush. He opened his mouth to say something, but could not find the right words. Instead, his father stepped forward and spoke, "I guarantee that Yurik's unique knowledge can more than compensate for the minor breach of protocol. You never were one for understanding their military, were you Hubert? If we are to beat them, we need to ulitize powerful necromancy and tactical brilliance!" |
