--Enters from Meadow's Back--

Mordain dropped down behind a building, with such speed that no one would have noticed. He folded his wings back within his robes and sealed the tears with his magic before walking out into the streets.

Nairio was a busy city, always filled with traders moving from the coast to central Weissland. The City Guard maintained a high presence here, always on the look out for people attempting to rob from the traders, or traders robbing from eachother. The large amount of business did atract crime, of course.

As Mordain walked through the streets, people parted to allow him past. No one would meet his gaze and the guards saluted him. No one knew he was a demon here; these were just the responces he was used to. Clearly, none of them knew of his exile either.

He walked into a tavern on the edge of the city square, moving straight to the bar. The innkeeper staggered backwards as the imposing figure approached.

"Lord Mordain," he managed after some time, "what brings you here?"

"Give me a drink. Ale." he said.

"Certainly, my Lord. That'll be-"

Mordain quickly raised his head so the man would know he was staring right at him.

"Nevermind." said the innkeeper quickly as he placed Mordain's tankard down before him.

The Mage of Shadows took the drink and retired to a table in the back of the room. No one sat within three tables of him.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Mordain finished his second tankard and placed it on the table. He sat in silence, staring forward but not really looking at anything.

Screams sounded from outside, and it took him a few moments to register them. Everyone in the inn stood up, moving to the windows to see what was happening. They drew back quickly when a woman fell dead outside, arrows in her back. Someone rushed through the door, slamming it shut behind her.

"What's happening?" asked one of the patrons.

The man from outside gulped and took a few moments to catch his breath. "We-we're u-under attack... Undead... lots of u-undead..."

Mordain rose slowly and advanced to the door. In a sense, he was pleased with the arrival of the dead. At last, a way to vent some rage.

Skeletons were shattered and zombies torn apart as Mordain advanced down the street. He was in no mood to show restraint. But, around these city folk, he chose not to invoke his demonic powers. He used his staff and black magic to strike down the undead as they came at him. They weren't a threat. There was a lot of them, but they were coming at him in small numbers. He was dispatching them quickly.

The last of the undead in the street fell before him. Down the far end, he saw a necromancer commanding the undead. Mordain spoke words to a spell. Shadows wrapped around him, bending light itself so that he became invisible. He advanced straight towards the foul mage, reappearing no more than ten feet away from him. The necromancer spotted him instantly. Fear washed over the man's face and he tried to flee, but a simple spell brought the man to his knees.

"Kill him!" shrieked the necromancer.

All the surrounding undead advanced towards Mordain. However, the Mage of Shadows raised his staff and then slammed it into the ground, speaking words of a healing spell as he did so. An eruption of healing magic shot from the top of his staff, washing over the undead and destroying them. He reached down and grabbed the man by his neck, hauling him up with one hand and holding him two feet off the ground.

"Drathmor is dead! What is your kind still doing here?" demanded Mordain.

"I... I serve a n-new master now.." spluttered the man as he tried to breathe.

"Who?" roared Mordain, tightening his grip.

The man coughed some more, trying to force his words out. "Azzhrak... Scaend..."

Mordain dropped the man. He knew of this necromancer. A Necromancer Lord, to be more specific. He was dangerous and deadly. If he was still in Weissland... Mordain began to walk away from the man.

"Where are you going, Mordain?" shouted the necromancer.

Mordain kept walking but turned his head back towards the man as he spoke. "To kill your lord."

It had been some hours since Mordain's encounter with the necromancer. Since then, he had assembled a strong number of the City Guard and led them in defense of the city. The force Azzhrak had sent to the city was not large. Clearly, the Necromancer Lord had not anticipated Mordain's presence. But, then again, why would he?

Mordain stood over the only two necromancers he had left alive. They were bound and gagged, and members of the City Guard stood with their swords at the necks of the foul men.

"Should we kill them, my Lord?" asked the guard captain.

"No." replied Mordain. "I have need of them."

"For what, my Lord?" countered the captain, clearly uncomfortable with leaving the men alive.

"Information. I need a place to interrogate them."

The captain pointed back towards the square. "String them up in the square. Let the people watch these monsters suffer! They've killed many of the cityfolk. Those who remain deserve to see justice in the works!"

Beneath his shroud, Mordain smiled darkly. "Believe me, captain, neither you nor the city's population want to witness what I will do to these men if I have to."

The captain withdrew for a moment, not even daring to imagine what Mordain meant by that. "Very well, my Lord." he said slowly. "You can use the barracks. Shall I station my men outside?"

"There will be no need, captain." said Mordain simply. "Take me there, and bring the scum."
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

Mordain walked into the room of the barracks where the second of the necromancers were being held. He had finsihed with the first, and he assumed that the look of fear in the eyes of this necromancer were greatly due to the screams the man would have heard from the room where the first had been held.

The necromancer's hands were in shackles, which had been fixed to the ceiling. His feet had also been placed in shackles, and fixed to the floor. The gag was still in his mouth. Mordain approached him and placed his fingers on the man's head, chanting words to a spell. The spell was from the lore of weakening and it blanked all spell words from the man's mind. Only then did Mordain remove the gag from the man's mouth.

"What do you want, Mordain?" asked the necromancer, as much out of curiosity as it was to hide his fear.

Mordain moved to stand infront of the man. "I want to know about your lord."

The necromancer seemed to be overcome with a greater fear at the mention of his master. He laughed, as if he were possessed by something else. "You... you won't get me to reveal anything of my lord. He would do to me worse than you ever could! Look at you, Mordain. You don't even have any tools of torture!"

"What makes you think I need them?" said Mordain simply.

At that, the necromancer remained deathly still and watched Mordain. The Mage of Shadows took a few steps back from the man. Then, he allowed his demonic wings to extend from his back, spreading wide across the room.

"What... what are you..?" asked the man, his voice consumed by fear at Mordain's revelation.

Mordain moved closer until his face was mere inches from that of the necromancer's. "You think your lord is the darkest creature you will ever meet?" He lowered his hood and dispelled the shroud that concealed his face. His demonic face was revealed clearly for the necromancer to see. The next words he spoke were in a voice so cold that it gave the prisoner shivers; "Guess again."

Mordain stood in the room, wiping his hands clean of the dead man's blood. This Azzhrak had made a camp to the east, having taken control of a large portion of the army that fled Asulien. Mordain would not be able to challenge an army alone; he would need help, and he knew where to find it. After hiding his wings and putting his gloves back on, as well as his hood and shroud, he left the barracks.

The guard captain was not far. He saluted Mordain as the mage approached. "My Lord, what did you learn?"

"The necromancer lord is to the east in a well-defended camp, soon to be a fort. He will be raiding all villages and cities nearby." said Mordain.

"For what?"

"Bodies."

The guard captain gulped before speaking again. "Should we confine the necromancers to holding cells?"

Mordain shook his head. "That won't be necessary. Neither of them survived the interrogation."

Mordain sat in a chamber of the barracks with the guard captain and his second-in-command.

"What are we to do about this Necromancer Lord?" asked the captain.

"We must kill him. There is no other option." replied Mordain simply.

"But my Lord," said the captain, shaking his head as he spoke, "we are just city guard. We do not have the training, let alone the numbers, to go to war with the undead."

"And I am not asking you to."

The two guardsmen looked at him skeptically. "My Lord?" asked the second-in-command.

"What you will do is recruit every able-bodied man in this city and add them to your ranks. You will need the added defence until this scum is destroyed. I will summon the Az'Gor, for their loyalty to me has no end."

A day had passed. Mordain had dispatched a spell sphere to the Az'Tannk, Tannak being their new leader. They were on their way. Still he resided in the barracks. There was much to be done to defend this city.

--Entering from Asulien--

With a thunderclap Nathaniel arrived in the city of Nairio. As he quickly looked around to see where he was, he noticed he was standing outside of a barracks. He had wanted to arrive outside of the city gates and walk in, instead he had arrived here. That was disconcerting.

Mordain's head rose. He felt the presence of a powerful spell the moment it triggered, and the source was just outside. But it was not a threatening presence. Rather, it was a troubled one.

The Mage of Shadows rose and walked outside, finding Nathaniel standing practically right outside the door.

"Drakkon?" he asked, confused by the man's presence.

He only hoped the man wasn't here because of the monks. He had no desire to kill Nathaniel.

Nathaniel turned around and said "Lord Mordain. I did not expect to find you here my Lord. I must have been unconcious for longer than I thought." He cleared his throat, but still he could hear the magic in his voice. For some reason it actually made him angry.

Mordain walked forward and reached out with his hand. He lightly touched Nathaniel's forehead. Calmly, he withdrew his hand. "That spirit, its power has grown. Hasn't it?"

Drakkon nodded slowly "Yes. The spirit is learning how to affect the physical world with greater efficiency. Learning how to cause me pain... eventually how to kill me. Since there is no longer a way to banish the spirit, I thought I might look for people I know, before the end." He clenched his fists tightly and continued "But that might not be a good idea. My magic seems unfocused, it could be dangerous. It seems that I did some damage to the monks that woke me up, and one of the other healers who stood in my way when I left Asulien. Perhaps I should use what time I have left to cause damage to whatever remains of the Defiled Kingdom's forces, wherever they are."
