Mordain heard the command of the spell sphere. Slowly, he lifted himself back onto his feet. Again he leaned on his staff for support. "My Lord, you cannot go anywhere in the state you are in. The Queen can wait. You must rest!" pleaded Marr, attempting to bar Mordain's path to the door. Mordain bound a cloth across his wound and used magic to quickly weave a new sleeve for his robe. "That is not an option, Marr. My loyalty is to the Queen and I must answer her call. Now stand aside." "But Mordain, you-" "Move!" roared Mordain as he grabbed Marr with one arm and hurled him across the room. The man crashed into a bookcase before falling into a heap on the floor. Mordain limped towards the door. "If you truly want to make yourself useful, then do what I have asked and prepare our prisoner log for when I return." It was some time before he managed to make his way across the city to the palace, weakened as he was. He limped through the palace and breathed heavily with every step. The cloaking spell was one of the most powerful spells at his disposal and it had drained almost all of his energy, but it would hold. Whatever happened here, Kristian would be hidden and safe. Not even Lathaon could see through such a spell. He waved the guards aside and entered the Queen's chamber. Beneath his shroud, his face contorted into disgust at the sight of Laiya. Of course. He kept his left arm horizontal across his chest so to avoid blood dripping onto the floor and leaned on his staff as he looked to the Queen. "You wanted to see me, your Highness?" he asked simply. His voice retained its usual sound, but it took all of his willpower to hide the pain he was in. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Motioning to Laiya, Rebecca said, "Sister Laiya has informed me of a magical attack which occurred within the city. What do you know of this?" |

"It was effective, quick, and I believe it was also random. But until the Seekers can conduct an investigation, I will not know more." He took a deep breath before continuing. "It bears the hallmarks of a necromancer attack, though. Perhaps by some lingering scum still loyal to the Dark Lord." |

"What of the boy you spirited away?" asked Laiya. "The one at the center of the attack, the only survivor of something which reduced the other victims to naught but bones?" Rebecca looked to Mordain for an answer. |

Mordain intentionally kept his eyes on the Queen as he spoke. "He was wounded in the attack, but it is strange that he survived. I hope to learn why he survived, and perhaps gain insight into the attack by doing so." |

"Of course, your Highness, but I felt that you had enough on your mind as it is. I saw no reason to burden you with this until I had something substantial to report. A solution, for example. If I may take my leave then I will continue to work on finding out what happened." |

"You may," said Rebecca. "Be sure to inform me of such things sooner, however." As Rebecca turned away and Mordain went to leave, Laiya walked over and stood in the doorway, in Mordain's path. As he got close, Laiya whispered, "You're up to something, my lord. You may be able to fool the queen, troubled as she is, but I will not stand for it, and as soon as I find out what you're doing, I will ensure that you are held accountable." |

Mordain let his left arm fall to his side before replying in a hushed voice. "You should stay out of my affairs, girl. I have no patience for your games." He pushed past Laiya and slowly began making his way down the corridor. Just as he passed through the doorway, a few drops of blood fell from his arm onto the floor. He didn't notice but lifted his arm across his chest and kept moving down the corridor. |

"But they are not yours!" hissed Mordain scathingly as he made his way back over to her, but kept his voice down so the Queen would not hear. The guards moved away after he shot them a glance. He continued in a whisper. "You are to find the King. That is your purpose. Attacks of this kind are handled by Seekers, as I dictate. Keep out of my way!" |

Laiya turned and walked back into the Queen's chambers. "My Queen, I beg permission to investigate this further," said Laiya. "No," said Rebecca. "No. You are to find my husband, that is your mandate." Laiya took a deep breath and nodded. "As you wish, my Queen." She turned and walked out. |

Mordain returned to his quarters to find Marr waiting. The heavy, leather-bound tome that was the prisoner log sat on his desk. Mordain fell forward through the door but Marr caught him and helped him to his chair. "My Lord, what happened to you?" "It was Kristian... He was responsible for the destruction in the city." Marr's eyes went wide. "What?!" "He has a part of Krodalis within him, just as I do. The monks are interfering, as I expected them to. But the Queen seems to have kept them out of this for now. I hid the boy here. My weakened state is the result of a spell I cast to keep him safe." "Mordain... If he's as dangerous as you say, why are we keeping him safe? Should we not," Marr paused as Mordain's heavy gaze fell upon him, "kill him?" "For what, Marr?!" snapped Mordain. "For being dangerous, for carrying a part of this new threat within him? By that account, you should kill me as well!" Marr withdrew. "But does he have any control?" "Not yet. But he is contained. We need him, Marr, in order to learn more about Krodalis. And I cannot condemn him to death. Two monsters have ruined his life. One is Krodalis. And the other is me." |

"My Lord, you brought him here for safety. If you had not, he wouldn't even have a life at this point!" pressed Marr. "No, Marr, this is not the first time I have crossed paths with that boy. But that is another story... Just know that I will strive to protect him, and rid him of the horrendous affliction he has been stricken with." replied Mordain. "What would you have me do?" "I need a potion to bring back my strength. I don't have the time for weakness, for there is much to be done." Marr folded his arms. "What is it that you wish to do?" "For starters, I need to put a ward in place to keep those bastard monks out of here. That bitch Laiya is after my head, and I'll not let that happen. I'll tear her throat out if I have to!" He took a deep, calming breath. "But, that wouldn't be the best choice. Keeping the monks away will do for now." |

--Entering from Ledek-- A few days had passed when the column arrived back in Asulien. Nathaniel had ordered the Seekers to keep close watch on the prisoner. He was on a horse but his hands and feet were bound securely with rope, and two sections of rope were held by a Seeker, one riding directly in front and another riding behind. With four other Seekers riding two to a side the prisoner was well surrounded. In the event of him trying to jump off the horse all he would succeed in doing is being dragged along the ground by the two Seekers before the column stopped and put him back on the horse, escape was impossible. Due to this though, they were short one horse, so Nathaniel had shared his with one of the other Seekers. Just because he was technically in command of this expedition did not mean he felt it necessary to lord it over others. They rode straight for the Seeker headquarters once inside the city. They came to a stop in front of the building and Nathaniel dismounted saying "Take the prisoner inside and secure him in a cell. The rest of you should take the horses to the stables." The Seekers began carrying out their orders without a moments wait, Nathaniel was very impressed with their silent dedication. He turned to Kassal and said "Well, this is where we part company I think." |
