"As you wish. But there is something else. Lord Marr told me of what transpired with the monks, regarding Kassal. I must ask, your Highness, why did you give them equal authority to my men on this matter? They have no place, past or present, in Weissland law enforcement. That has never been their mandate." said Mordain.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Nathaniel asked "Which direction did the rider approach you from?"

"The northeast," said Kassal. "From the direction of Asulien."

-----------------------------

"Their ability to teleport over great distances is something which could be invaluable," said Rebecca. "Plus they were very helpful to my husband and myself here in Asulien."

"Good, thank you Kassal. I have no more questions." Nathaniel said. He looked to Marr, to see if he had anything else.

"That should be enough for now. Thank you for your time, Kassal." He stood and gestured for Nathaniel to follow as they left the room. Marr closed the door behind them. "Organise a force of Seekers and tell them to travel with Kassal to the camp. Lead them if you wish, but perhaps you have other things to deal with here, I do not know. But ensure that it is men that you trust."

-----

"They have no experience in this line of work. It is not their purpose. And my Seekers cannot work under the supervision of any who do not know exactly what they are doing, not if you want us to locate your husband. If they must continue in this then so be it, but I cannot have them standing in my way and ignoring the authority of my men."

((Right, I'm away to the Download festival for the next week guys so I won't be posting until at least next Tuesday. I've tried to leave Marr's last comment open to give you guys the option of taking Kassal and Nathaniel down to Ledek's Span. Wouldn't want to leave you in a dead end. See you guys in a week.))

"Their purpose will be what I determine it to be, Lord Mordain," said Rebecca, suddenly growing angry. The loss of James had made her an emotional wreck, and at this point she suddenly felt as if she wanted to lash out at everything. "They have no authority over your men, only over their own. There was a misunderstanding, but your two groups now serve the same purpose!" All of a sudden, the shutters of the window slammed shut, and the drapes of the bed and the tapestry on the wall rustled as if by a strong wind. "Finding my husband..." Rebecca finished, suddenly quiet.

((Later dude. Have a good time.))

((Ok, enjoy Download.))

Nathaniel replied "Very well."

He left Marr to organise the force of Seekers. He would not make the mistake that Kassal had, by not ensuring a suitable size of escort for the only witness they had. Nathaniel started with the four Seekers who had travelled to Ataya with Lord Mordain. The mage then selected several others from around the Seeker HQ who were not on vital duties. Once finished he had twenty-five Seekers standing ready.

It was rather strange, as Nathaniel had started as only an honourary Seeker, and now was not even that anymore. And yet here he was preparing to command a force of Seekers to escort Kassal to Ledek's Span. He said briefly "All of you have been selected to escort Mr. Kassal to Ledek's Span. There we will find the campsite where Kassal and the King were ambushed. There we will hopefully find clues, something to go on. Remember, you are not prison guards, you are escorting a witness."

He spoke specifically to two Seekers in the front line "You two, go and check on Mr. Kassal and bring him to the muster point outside." Addressing the others Nathaniel said "The rest of you, prepare supplies and horses for yourselves as well as Mr. Kassal, myself, and one spare horse." Unfortunately Nathaniel had a sinking feeling about who the spare horse would be for. Nathaniel went off to gather his weapons, as he had left them in the room being used as an armoury before going to speak with Kassal.

Two Seekers walked back into the room where Kassal was sitting and told him, "Come, Mr. Kassal. We are getting ready to leave for Ledek's Span."

Kassal nodded and stood up before following the two Seekers to the armory room where Nathaniel and other Seekers were preparing to leave.

Nathaniel was attaching his scabbard to his belt when the two Seekers brought Kassal in. He looked up and said "Ah, Kassal." He gestured idly about the room and said "Do you want to take something? I'm sure the Seekers can provide something for you, although I doubt it'll be up to the standards of the Weissland Royal Plate you're used to."

Most of the Seekers had already mustered outside of the building with the horses, but a few were gathering some equipment from the armoury. Nathaniel picked up his staff as he watched them work.

Kassal shook his head. "I failed in my duty as a knight of Weissland," he said. "I will take only a sword, as it pleases them."

Nathaniel motioned to one of the Seekers and the man picked up a standard sword in a scabbard from a rack against the wall and handed it to Kassal. The Seekers essentially had no identity as Nathaniel had learned. They were armoured in dark leather, complete with leather masks over their faces, dark clothes beneath, and black cloaks wrapped around them. Nobody knew their names, or at least Nathaniel imagined only their leaders such as Mordain did, and sometimes it was not easy to tell if the Seeker was a man or woman if at a distance or in the dark.

The mage said "Well, let's get outside. We'll need to start riding soon if we're to make any head-way today." Nathaniel asked "Is your monk companion not going to join us?"

"I am here," said the monk, stepping forward from behind some Seekers.

Kassal shrugged as he tied the sword belt about his waist. "Ready when you are."

Nathaniel said dryly "Oh, yes, you are here. Great."

He walked out to the Seekers and horses outside, took the reins of one from a Seeker and said "Very well everyone, mount up and let's get moving."

He turned his horse and moved off at a trot, leading the small elite force away for the city gates.

Mordain remained visibly unchanged by Rebecca's sudden presentation of magical ability. His mind, however, was racing with questions and filled with curiosity. "If that issue is resolved, then so be it." He folded his arms and discarded his staff. As it moved off to his left, in vanished in a haze of smoke. "And what of this magic, your Highness?"

"Sister Laiya tells me it has been with me my entire life," said Rebecca. "It first showed the day I was told about James..." her voice trailed off.
