Rebecca lay in her room, sobbing and clutching Cullen close to her chest. Cullen was surprisingly calm and quiet as Rebecca cried, lying on her side. Few people had spoken to her since she first heard the news about James, for she had sent them all away angrily. All she could think about was her husband, missing, perhaps dead, and in her chest she felt an empty hole that seemed like it would never be filled. |

It had been some time, and Kassal and Laiya came to Rebecca's room. As she heard the door open, the queen shouted, "Get out! Get out!" Her two visitors did not retreat as all the others had done, however. "My queen, I know you are hurting," said Laiya. "But we cannot dally here doing nothing." "Get out!" screamed Rebecca again. "My Queen!" shouted Laiya in return. "You must listen to reason! The realm looks to you!" Rebecca said nothing in response to this; she knew that the monk was right, of course, but she did not want to do anything. She wanted to sit here and disappear, sink into oblivion and never be seen or heard from again. James was gone, and they had no idea what had happened or where he might be. There were no demands, and in her heart, she had a sinking feeling that they would never receive any demands. Sitting up somewhat and using a hand to wipe away some of her tears, Rebecca asked, "What would you have me do?" "You are the queen," said Laiya ".In the King's absence, rule of the realm falls on your shoulders. The first thing you have to decide is what is to be done about the King." "No expense must be wasted to find him," said Rebecca immediately, as if that was a given. "My Queen, I do not know if the country can accommodate that," said Kassal. Rebecca turned her gaze on the Captain of the Guard, narrowing her eyes to slits. "You. You were entrusted with the protection of my husband, and you failed." Kassal did not say anything, he simply nodded, a dejected look on his face. "I will not have you bringing counsel to my ear," said Rebecca. "I hereby strip you of your commission as Captain of the Royal Guard and expel you from the order." Kassal stood speechless, his mouth slightly open and his hands limp at his sides. "Leave my chamber and relinquish your weapons and armor to the armory," said Rebeccca venomously. "As you wish, my queen," said Kassal, his eyes still wide. He bowed before turning and leaving the room. "Your highness, Captain Kassal is..." started Laiya, but Rebecca waved a hand to cut her off. "I have made my decision," said Rebecca. "He failed in his duties, and I relieved him. There is nothing else to it." "About your husband, however," said Laiya. "It is unlikely that sending all the assets of the Realm to search for him will yield many results. These things require a certain type of work, by certain types of people." "Who would you suggest then?" asked Rebecca. "The Seekers," said Laiya. "And my own order." Rebecca nodded. "Very well, inform the Seekers of their prerogative to search for any evidence of my husband's whereabouts, and you tell your own order what to do." "As you wish, my Queen," said Laiya. "I also wish to discuss with you your training." "Training?" asked Rebecca. "You displayed a fair amount of magical power when you were first informed of your husband's disappearance," said Laiya. "It is important to train these abilities so you can control and focus them." Rebecca put a hand up. "I do not wish to discuss this right now. Please do what I have asked, and come back some other time." Laiya thought about saying something, thought better of it, and bowed before leaving the room. She descended the stairs and there formed another spell sphere to send to Mordain, as the Lord had asked. |

As the spell sphere dissipated, Laiya turned and walked to the Palace's armory. There, he found Kassal removing his armor piece by piece and laying it on a table. The man seemed dejected; it showed in his face and his movements. "Captain," said Laiya. "It's just Bradley Kassal now, Sister," said the man. Laiya had only ever seen the man wearing his armor and helmet, and now, looking at him without it, wearing just a leather jerkin, a shirt, and trousers, he seemed so odd. His hair, cropped close, had been matted down by the helmet, and his face, rough and battle-scarred, was finally fully showing. He looked...tired, decided Laiya, but more than just from a poor night's sleep or a tough fight. It was as if the years of his service in the Royal Guard were finally weighing upon him. "What did you want?" asked Kassal, and Laiya realized she had been staring. "Lord Mordain requests that you do not leave the city," said Laiya. Kassal nodded. "For what purpose?" he asked. "Lord Mordain did not say," said Laiya. "For now, I think it would be better if you stayed with my people." Kassal nodded. "Very well." Laiya led Kassal out of the armory and down to the chapel to Aracen. There, she sat him down and then moved to a group of monks standing at the front of the chapel. "Inform me of the Seekers' movements in the city," said Laiya. The monks nodded wordlessly and left the chapel. Edited by Hotshot, May 31 2011, 04:20 PM.

Marr was stood on a balcony that protruded from near the top of the new Seeker stronghold. He leaned heavily on the railing as his mind raced. The King was gone, and now he waited on word of what was to be done. That decision belonged to the Queen. Marr was uncertain of how well that would go, though he was certain of what her decision would entail. Love was blind in more ways than one. Just then, a black raven dropped from the sky to land on the railing. Its eyes glowed and Mordain's voice sounded from it. "Marr, I have learned of the King's fate. I have received further word on behalf of the Queen; the Seeker Order has been given full authority to do whatever we must to find the King. It is time to go to work, my friend. But be cautious until I return; she has also passed full authority onto the Monks of Aracen. Be wary of them, Marr. For now I want you to collect the former Captain of the Royal Guards, Bradely Kassal. Question him for any further details of the events that led to the King's abduction. Other than that, I trust you can proceed without my instruction. Do what you deem necessary. Expect my return in a few days." With that, the raven turned and left. Marr stood upright and went back inside. He called six Seekers to him. They were good men, skilled at their work. He could not be sure that Kassal would accompany them willingly. The Seekers did have a reputation, after all. "Men, you are to locate Bradely Kassal, former Captain of the Royal Guard, and bring him here for questioning. Do this quickly. I will tell you more soon." He turned another member of the order, though this one was only an aide. "Send out word that all Seeker officers are to meet me in our main hall." "Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Not much time had passed before there was a snap and one of the monks appeared in the chapel. "Sister Laiya, the Seekers are moving against Captain Kassal," said the man. Laiya nodded. "It is as I feared, then," she said. "What?" asked Kassal. "If Lord Mordain only wished to question you about what happened, he would have come himself and questioned you," said Laiya. "You are not a criminal, not some fleeing fugitive. What purpose does he have to send his lackeys to take you into custody? You will disappear, Bradley." Turning to the monk, she said, "Assemble the rest of the ones I sent out with you and come back here." The monk winked out, and several minutes later, ten monks reappeared in the chapel and turned towards the door. "Now we wait to see what card Lord Mordain will play," said Laiya. |

It wasn't long before the Seeker group found their way to the temple of Aracen, having been informed that Kassal was within. As they approached, there seemed to be no one outside. The first Seeker stepped forward and knocked heavily upon the door. |

At this point, Laiya stepped forward, and the other monk stepped out of the way. "You cannot have him," said Laiya simply. "You may question him here, if you like, but he is not to be moved from this chapel at this time." |

The lead Seeker stared at Laiya for a moment, not entirely sure how to proceed. It seemed idiotic to him, what she was saying, and needlessly problematic. "Mi'lady, he is in no danger from us. We are not here to harm him. We were ordered to bring him to the stronghold to ensure that he does not flee the city, nothing more. We have our orders and to go against them serves no purpose of yours. Now, please, stand aside." |

The Seeker shrugged. "Questioning my orders is not part of my job, mi'lady. I do not even know why Mr. Kassal is to be brought in for questioning. But I was given an order by Lord Marr himself. We do not question our superiors, especially not the heads of our order. But I do know that my Lord is merely being cautious. Lord Mordain wants to speak with him and he wants to be assured that Mr. Kassal will still be here when he returns." |

"Mi'lady, our order brings with it the full weight of Weissland's authority. To defy our orders, as you are proposing to do, is treason. I would ask that you reconsider. It is not worth it, mi'lady. Not over something as trivial as this." the Seeker's voice was calm, yet almost pleading. He knew where this could lead and he didn't want to see it happen. |

"No, mi'lady, it is not. The laws of this land are as they are, and to go against them is illegal. That is fact and it is subject to no one's discretion. I have come here bearing no threats, no hidden agendas; I simply came to carry out my instructions. Your arrogance and blatant disregard for the laws of this land is the first blow, mi'lady. Never forget that." He turned and made for the door, motioning for the others to follow. "It is a sad day when even within our own ranks we are forced to deal with such pathetic power plays. But, you have made your choice. We will see you soon." With that, the Seekers left and headed back towards the stronghold. |

"That was not wise," said Kassal to Laiya as the Seekers left. "You should have let them take me." "There is no need hold you," said Laiya. "Yes, but the result of this will not be good," said Kassal. "The Seekers are not to be defied. They were on orders from the Queen to do whatever is necessary." "As are we," said Laiya. "What does keeping me have to do with what is necessary?" asked Kassal. Laiya said nothing in response, instead saying, "I am going to see the Queen. The rest of you stay here." She then walked out of the chapel, heading for the Queen's chamber. |

"They what?!" exclaimed Marr as he rounded swiftly on the Seekers. "It as I said, sir; they refused to hand Mr. Kassal over to us. They say that if we want to question him then we must do it on their terms." replied the lead Seeker. Marr paced slowly around the room. "Their arrogance knows no end. Why do they wish to become part of this country if they hold no desire to honour its laws? Bah. I shall take this matter to the Queen." "Sir, is that wise?" "There is little else we can do. I will not see our two orders become enemies so quickly, and over something so simple. If the Queen wants her husband found then it must be handled by skilled specialists. Not priests." Marr walked out and headed for the palace. |

Laiya made her way up the stairs of the Palace out of the basement where the chapel was. She came to the Queen's chamber, and there the two Royal Guardsmen stepped aside, allowing her entrance. When she opened the door, she found the Queen sitting on her bed, dressed now in a gold and red gown with her hair tied back in an elaborate bun behind her head. "My Queen, I need to speak with you," said Laiya. |

Mere moments later, Marr arrived too. He said nothing though. Laiya was here first. Surely she had addressed the Queen and was now waiting for a reply. |
