After Kassal had walked out, Laiya began forming a spell sphere, and then sent it off, seeking out Lord Mordain in order to inform him of what had transpired.

Meanwhile, Kassal made his way to where the Seekers had their base of operations within the city. As he reached the warehouse, however, he found it deserted. The Seekers must have moved their base, Kassal reasoned; with his absence from the city, he had obviously missed the information being passed. As he began to walk away from the warehouse, a man in a dark cloak emerged from an alleyway and approached Kassal.

"Captain Kassal," said the man. "You are searching for the Seekers?"

"I am," said Kassal, resting his hand on the hilt of his sword.

"We have moved, Captain," said the man, who Kassal now realized must be a Seeker. "I was assigned to watch for anything suspicious at the old site. Come, I will lead you there." Without allowing Kassal to respond, the Seeker turned and walked back down the alleyway, and Kassal followed. The man led him through the streets of Asulien, eventually reaching an old prison. The Seeker led Kassal inside, where he was greeted by another Seeker.

"Captain Kassal," said the man. "What can I help you with?"

"I need to speak with Marr," said Kassal.

"Wait here, Captain," said the Seeker.

Marr was still talking with Kristian when there came a knock at the door. He rubbed his forehead before speaking. "Yes?"

"Sir, Captain Kassal of the Royal Guard is here." said a Seeker as he stuck his head through the door.

Marr nodded. "Very well. Take Kristian to another room and bring the Captain here."

"As you command, sir."

Kristian was led from the room by the Seeker as another went to fetch Kassal. As the man entered, Marr stood to greet him.

"Welcome to our new base of operations, Captain. What can the Seekers do for you?" he asked.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Kassal turned and closed the door before stepping closer to Marr. "What I tell you now must remain as secret as possible until further actions have been decided upon," said Kassal. He paused for a moment, and then said, "King James has been taken while traveling through Ledek's Span. We were ambushed by men posing as soldiers of the Weissland Army and caught off-guard."

Marr had no words at first. He took a deep breath and looked aimlessly around for a few moments. "How..." He took another breath. "Do we have any idea who could be behind this? Any clues?"

"None," said Kassal. "The attackers only pretended to have a message from Asulien, at which point we put away our weapons, and were then knocked out. They were Weisslanders, but said nothing to betray their motive. They left me behind alive, as well as all of our gear and our horses, but did not leave any note or anything, and no word has reached the capital about any demands."

"Two of my guardsmen, the Queen, and Sister Laiya," said Kassal. "At the moment, Sister Laiya is sending a spell sphere to Lord Mordain as well."

Marr shifted his jaw awkwardly. "Who will make the decision on how to act? The Queen... I fear she could be too inexperienced to have such a decision sitting upon her shoulders."

At these words, Kassal bristled somewhat internally but tried to keep his composure. "She is the Queen," said Kassal. "She is the rightful ruler of the realm in the King's stead."

"Of course. I would not ask anyone to forget that, nor to overlook any decision her majesty might make. But I would ask that it be recommended she make no decision alone." Marr folded his arms across his chest. "Furthermore, Captain, there are her feelings for her husband to consider. A decision born from love is not always born from logic."

Marr cleared his throat before continuing. "When the time comes to decide how to search for and recover the King, I don't want the Queen left alone to make those choices. I don't want to see her majesty make irrational and ill-advised moves."

Marr held his hands up before speaking again. "All I would suggest, Captain, is that those who the Queen will listen to ensure that she makes no decision on this matter without counsel. It should be her decision for that is her right as our Queen, but she is also entitled to have all relevant information before making that decision."

"I am not one of them, so I could not say. I always thought that she would listen to you, though."

Kassal shrugged. "Perhaps," he said, but figured that there was nothing else to be said. "I do not know when that will be, but I will keep you informed of what happens. Is there anything else you wish to discuss about this?"

"For now, no. I think we have covered enough for now, Captain."

"Very well," said Kassal. With a nod, he turned, opened the door, and walked out, heading back to the Royal Palace.
