"Can you take us there?" asked Laiya.

Brae nodded. "Yes, I expect we will. Do you know how we could make contact with Elandir?"

-----

Zeal began walking away, gesturing for the monks to follow. "Of course."

Kristian looked around, keeping a firm hold on the note. Mordain had said to show it to Marr and Marr only.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

"I don't, no," the dark elf replied. "I'd wager he knows how to make contact with us, though."

Brae paced around the room. "Then we should wait. I don't want to move forward without him."

Laiya began following, with the monks and the boy close behind.

Zeal led them to a large building. It had been a warehouse, but its stocks had been moved before the battle to stop them getting damaged. The building, luckily, had escaped damage during the siege and the Seekers were now using it as an adopted stronghold within the city. Guards patrolled around the area, although only in light numbers. The old sorcerer passed by them, though some gave questioning glances towards the monks and the boy.

Inside, there was one, massive room, with a handful of smaller ones towards the back. Marr was in the middle, sat at a table. Seekers moved around the room in decent numbers. Many were officers; others were just lending a helping hand. There was a lot to be sorted out in Mordain's absence. As Zeal approached Marr, he saw that the man was looking over a great many documents.

"Marr," he began, moving forward, "there's a boy here that needs to speak with you."

Marr was dressed in loose fitting, dark clothes. His cloak hung from the back of his chair. On the other side of the table was a long robe that parted down the front. It was dark in colour and embrodierd with patterns, as well as a large, raven-like insignia on the back. The robes were a symbol of his new authority, though he had yet to wear them. A sword was sheathed at his side, just in case. He rose and turned towards Zeal, who directed his attention to Kristian.

Marr looked down at the boy, then at the monks. His eye almost twitched with the rage he felt at their mere presence. It was his first instinct to draw his blade and carve through them in the bloodbath that they deserved. But he didn't. He remained perfectly calm.

"What is the meaning of this?" he asked them.

Elandir looked at the bunch of men Zach had gathered for him. They were lined up in three rows in front of him, not particularly neatly, but as much so as could be expected. Some of them were far too young for this sort of thing, he thought. They were all equipped, though.

"I hope for your sakes that you understand what you've signed up for," he said quietly but firmly, pacing along the rows. "From now on, you follow my every command as if your life depends on it... and in some cases, it will. I don't lead weaklings or cowards, so if any of you don't have what it takes, go home."

Renaulin frowned and started to speak, but then decided against it.

A short time later, Zach Amakiir approached the door.

"This boy is of great importance to Mordain," said Laiya. "It is imperative that he be kept safe from Krodalis."

"Krodalis?" asked Marr, arching an eyebrow.

((No one knows about him. Still confused about how the monks knew.))

-----

Brae gestured towards the door. In responce, a Seeker opened it.

"State your business." said the Seeker.

"Elandir was wondering where you were," Zach replied. "He's checking the men at the moment, but assuming you have got the help from Ulrin-" he looked at Renaulin "-he wants to set out."

"Tell me where I can meet him. If you take these men to him now, I will find Zeal and Korth, then join you shortly."

"He will meet you to the north of the city," Zach said.

"Should I go with him, or stay with you?" Renaulin asked Brae.

Brae gave Zach a quick nod before turning to answer Renaulin. "You should go with him. I'll be able to find you all, and Elandir should be told what you know."

"Farewell, then," Renaulin said.

The mercenaries stood to attention, and on Zach's signal, they followed he and Renaulin outside. The two of them headed towards the city gates.

Brae left the Seekers; they could not be seen helping the mercenaries. With Mordain exiled by the King, many organisations in Weissland were fearing for their jobs. It was risky for Brae, as the High Seeker, to be helping the mercenaries. But he could justify his actions if called up on them.

His first destination was the place he had left Korth to heal. Hopefully the druid had recovered by now, but the power of Kalon's weapon was vast. And yet, at the same time, Korth had survived a lot in the past.

Brae reached the small building and entered. He was directed to Korth's room and found the old elf to be sitting on his bed, legs crossed and eyes closed. He was meditating, and seemed to have made a full recovery. All his clothes were on and the colour had returned to him.

"What brings you to me, Brae?" he asked without opening his eyes or making any movement that suggested he was aware of Brae's presence.

"Elandir is setting out to Rathor. We need all the help we can get. I was hoping you would join us?" asked Brae, moving closer.

Korth's eyes shot open. He met Brae's gaze instantly. "The traitor Kalon must pay for his crimes. He has yet to do so. I failed in the catacombs. You offer me a second chance?" He rose slowly from the bed and stood, looking down on the younger man. Then, he bowed slightly. "I thank you for the oppertunity, Brae." He returned to full height. "This time, I will not fail. Kalon will pay."

Brae nodded. "Good. Now, we need to find Zeal. I am hoping he will join us, too."

((Going to Rathor.))

"How many men did you manage to put together?" Renaulin asked.

"About a hundred and fifty. These men will take the numbers up a bit, and Elandir told me Narandar is going to add his forces to the group. All together, we're looking at close to five hundred men, some without a shred of experience but some veterans. No mages though."

"One of us can take on three elves, captain," one of the mercenaries sneered.

"Don't forget we have the Archmage on our side, Zach," Renaulin said. "Zeal and Korth both have magic as well."

((My bad. And Zeal is a Mage.))

Brae and Korth made haste through the city. A Seeker had told them that Zeal was with Marr, as well as a group of monks.

((They've known all along, and they discussed it with Mordain at Lekath.))

"The enemy of all living things," said Laiya. "All you need to know is this boy must be kept safe." She looked at the boy and said, "If Mordain trusts you to care for the boy, then I trust you to care for him." She stepped aside and brought the boy forward.

((I'm not suggesting that you change it at this point, just curious how they've known all along. Krodalis has always gone with that whole 'The Devil's greatest trick was convincing the world he doesn't exist' thing. Burned books, records, statues and all that; anything that hinted at his existence.))

"We killed the enemy of all living things." retorted Marr, waving a dismissive hand towards them. "Stop wasting my time."

Zeal moved forward, leaning in to whisper in Marr's ear so that only he could hear. "I would give their words some thought. The boy has a letter for you, from Mordain. If Mordain can validate what these monks are saying then we are obliged to do as instructed."

The old sorcerer withdrew and Marr moved towards the boy, his hand extended. Cautiously, Kristian handed Marr the note. He took it, opened it up and read it to himself.

Marr,

This letter is for your eyes and your eyes only. Do not share this information with anyone that we cannot trust.

Kelan Wealer is dead and the monks and I, for now, have burried the hatchet. The boy that gave you this letter was delivered to you by them. That being said, I want you to take him away from them as soon as you can. I still do not trust them, for justified reasons, I'm sure you understand.

This boy is very important to another foul necromancer, one that we believe to be even more dangerous than Drathmor. It seems that when the King slew the Dark Lord, he opened the door to a darker one. Keep this boy safe.

Finally, I move towards the Seeker prison now with another group, and we will need reinforcements when we get there. Dispatch a company of Seekers to bolster the defences. When I can, I will contact you again with a progress report.

Mordain.

Marr folded the letter and put it into his pocket. "Very well. I will take the boy."
