Kremlin swallowed because of a dry throat. He had huge amount of respect for the gods, but this was contact he did not appreciate.

"What is this... forgive for speaking this in this place, but what is this not contact from the gods?" he said to Medran with low voice. "What if it is a trick from our enemies?"

"We will not know, either way, until he wakes. I don't believe any more harm would come from clothing him and bringing him to a more secure and comfortable place than from leaving him alone, but you do have a point there, Kremlin."

As they walked through the tunnels, Brae noticed a rat skitter across the floor around them. The creature stopped and stared up at them. Then, its size shifted and its form changed. It turned into the form of Korth.

Brae smirked. "Always one for stealth, aren't you?"

"Are you any different?" came Korth's quick reply.

He turned to face down the tunnel, sniffing the air. "The stench of dark elves is thick down here. The prey is not far."

-----

Mordain chose not to sit. He moved over to the window, gazing down at the city beneath. It had once been a peaceful place, governed by faith, faith that kept the people strong. Despite Mordain's feelings towards the 'gods', he respected faith for its ability to give mortals strength.

But now, in the face of true evil, faith was faltering. The city was ripe with fear. It clung to every man, woman and child. And they were right to be afraid. Weissland had not seen a war like this in a thousand years.

Aldron and James had yet to arrive. He hoped they would be here soon. Aside from the defence plans, there was still the matter of James's crowning to be taken care of. And Drakkon's trial.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Cyrredlues had one of his mages establish contact with Miraelon's prison as they descended to the tunnels. It meant coming close to more of the guards, but at least it was darker down here than up where the sun could shine in, and the magic remained. Even at the entrance, he could smell the casket, the other planes. Death, Demons, Magic, that relic would give control over all.

He was two steps ahead already. Being here first was one, and the Dark Voice had given him another, perhaps more important. The ritual was of course far too easily disrupted when people were determined to get in his way, far too easily for him to go straight to the Casket. He would be lurking in the shadows, ready for the ambush.

----

"Can you pinpoint them?" Arhaina asked.

Korth dropped to his knees, still sniffing. "I should be able to lead you straight to them."

Silently, Korth moved forward, following the scent. The others followed, winding through the tunnels until they came to a staircase that spiralled downwards.

"They're down there. How far down, I can't say. But they passed this way only a short time ago."

The staircase required them to move in single file; the stairs on the inside edge were too narrow to walk on. On one side, below the floor, the staircase opened out to what looked to be an empty cavern, although the light from above did not reach the end. They encountered nothing on the staircase itself, and after that, Khanden moved in front of Arhaina. The soldiers spread out around them on either side.

----

Kasimir returned to the room after the others had left. "Oh, so you're awake now, Elandir. Don't worry, Arhaina already paid for the room - went off hunting dark elves by the sound of it."

Elandir was lying down, but now sat bolt upright. "What?! You mean she left without us?!"

"She was confident. Most likely she either didn't want to wait, or she was concerned for your health. You were unconscious, after all, and Mordain and Jaunne promised troops..."

"If Cyrredlues decides he wants her dead, no number of troops will stand in his way," Renaulin pointed out. "There is a magic which Lord Miraelon mastered, allowing dark elf mages to leap or lunge at almost the speed of light - it's like short-ranged teleportation, only they have more control over it and can combine it with swordplay."

"We have to save her!" Elandir said, standing up.

"What if Ithrain could help us?" Narandar suggested. "Cyrredlues is no friend of Drathmor, after all, and it would give him a chance to prove himself. The dark elf mages would be no match for him."

"I don't like it," Elandir said immediately. "Too risky if you ask me. Besides, we don't have the time to get a disguise, and I don't think I can conceal us this time."

"No, but Ithrain could."

The mage lords and generals assembled in the eastern spire ceased their talking as Mordain together with Jaunne entered the room. All eyes, which content varied between respect, fear and anger, follow the black-dressed cousin of the Archmage as he moved towards the window.

Mage lord Vedgar sat outside the circle around the table, at a bench against the wall of the room. He brushed sweat from his brow and tried to ignore the constant pain in his leg. He did not dare to look at it, to witness the cold, white flesh and the red markings which grew and covered it. He had survived three different Dark Disciples over few days, a feat few of this world could challenge. But he feared the cost was too much. He had barely survived but at nights he wished he had not. The black-clad knight had dealt tremendous damaged to his body, and the Banshee and the creature known as Kazmar'Ach had crushed the very spine of his soul. He could still hear the voices in his head, mocking him constantly. He wished with all his heart that Andros or some of the others would over time manage to help him. But at least now he would endure the torment and do his best to help Weissland.

James reached the spire at the same time the Lord Aldron was being led there by another Seeker. "Milord," said James with a curt nod of his head.

"James," replied Aldron with a return nod. They entered the spire and climbed the stairs in silence, emerging into the top room where several high-ranking members of Weissland already awaited them.

((Is James Castoden a prince right now?))

"I think that is everyone, now. Take a seat then commander, and Castoden, I believe?" Jaunne said.

((He is just a lord and a noble. I don't think there are any princes because there are now kings. Lathaon Thaendil was a king, just not using that specific title but he had no sons))

((I'm still just a Lord, yeah, until Mordain crowns me KING. Hahahaha...ok I'll stop. :P ))

James nodded and took a seat next to Aldron. They were all sitting around a map table, showing Asulien and its surrounding area in exquisite detail.

Mistrandar Alicant met the gaze of James Castoden who sat down next to him but he showed no emotion, only a silent nod. He ignored the stare from Timus Aldron on the other side of Castoden. There was little warm feelings between the mage lords of the Mystic Tower and the Aldron-family and all knew that.

He turned to Mordain, thinking the cousin of Lathaon Thaendil would take charge. But as he turned his head he witnessed another figure arriving through the door to the room. A tall fellow with a long travelling cloak and a long spear with a curved blade. Loter Arthious.

(( Well, I'll give Chadden a chance to react I think.))

Ithrain just stared blankly at his brother. He wasn't sure why he was even alive, nor whether he cared. It had taken most of his life to get the position of Council Mage and now he had failed both Weissland and Drathmor. It seemed pointless to continue.

It was not until after Narandar cut the gag and the binds around his hands that the surprise registered in him. He didn't know what to think then, nor what to say, so he just sat there leaning against the wall. Elandir hadn't even tried to stop him either, most unusual for the mercenary leader. He knew that both Elandir and Lathaon had disliked him from the start, and that Elandir probably wanted him dead.

Mordain turned to face the leaders assembled in the room. "You have all arrived. Good. We should begin the meeting at once, as time is far from on our side. As you should all know, the armies of the Defiled Kingdom are making their way here. We have faced this force already in our journey, giving us a rough estimate of their size. They still out-number us, though the force is nothing compared to what attacked Ataya. If our defences are sufficient then we will make it through this. At the moment, I would estimate we have two days to prepare the defence of this city. If we're lucky, we will be granted more time."

He looked to Jaunne, wondering if the man had anything to add.

-----

Korth held up his hand, bringing an immediate halt. He slowly moved his lips to Arhaina's ear and whispered, "They are close."

Brae picked up on this. He placed his hands on his weapons, ready to draw them.

Loter Arthious lifted his hood of is head and stepped away from the doorway.

"How can we be so certain about the number of undead? What if they are more now, not less like you claim Mordain?"

Andros turned towards Loter and shrugged. "Their numbers matters little except for the fact that they clearly outnumber us. As long as the men of Weissland holds firm and the walls of Asulien are as strong as the people claim I am not worried about the countless ranks of undead. We may hold for days. What I am worried about is Drathmor and his undead officers and commanders."

"I took the initiative to leave scouts and lookouts back along the road, so we should receive word about a day before the undead reach here," said Zach Amakiir. "They could be moved closer to the enemy however, if numbers are important."

((No, I doubt everyone here even knows who Elandir is. Mordain might know who he is, as might anyone who has fought with/against Elandir's men before maybe during one of the civil wars, or anyone who has taken an interest in Elandir, either because they want him executed/imprisoned - City Watch - or for some other reason.))

Bearen, who had been one of the leaders among the scouts for the Army of Weissland, when it marched north turned towards the half-elf mercenary and frowned when he heard what was being said.

"We have numerous scouts along the roads already," he said. "Who might you be?"

"Zach Amakiir, at your service," he said, tipping his head slightly. "Second-in-command of the mercenaries since the First Civil War."
