Mordain nodded. "I will. We will go, into the shadows of this world. If Weissland needs us, we will return. And do not expect me to look kindly upon the servants of Aracen should they find me." |
|
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

James smiled a sad smile. "I didn't expect anything less. About that, however, that is the other reason I asked you to come here." Turning to Kassal, he said, "Captain, this concerns you as well." Kassal stepped forward and turned around to face James and clasped his hands behind his back in a military resting stance. "Captain, the monks have deemed that Mordain's demon part is too evil to allow to be left alive, so he must be killed," said James. Kassal turned to look at Mordain, then back at James. "What would you have me do, my Liege?" "Mordain and Shaellana have done too much for this country to forsake them, so they will sneak out of the city tonight," said James. "I want four of your men to accompany them for two days, then to shadow them for the rest of their journey. Assist them whenever they call for it, whenever you can, and hinder the monks secretly whenever you can." Kassal nodded. "It will be done, my Liege." "Good," said James. Looking at Mordain, he said, "The four Royal Guardsmen will shadow you until you leave Weissland, if you choose to do so. I may contact you occasionally, so they may approach you with messages. Feel free to contact them for aid or to pass along messages. They will do whatever you ask...well, almost anything." James smiled. |

Mordain made a dismissive wave. "They may shadow me if they wish," he paused, looking at the captain, "if they can. But Shaellana and I will move better without their direct company. As for sending me message; find a mage lord you can trust. Spell spheres are far more efficient." |

((Ach, contradictions! I really am returning to my old self... Captains of the Royal Guard are not actually Royal Guardsmen themselves. The Royal Guard can never rise to a higher position so as to maintain complete selflessness. So, the Captains among them have the equipment but not the same skill and training. In addition, they all answer directly to the leader(s) of Weissland in most cases, deferring to the Captains generally by choice so as to be organised and efficient, or in the event of not knowing what to do. Also, the Royal Guard would not show fear.)) |

Mordain bowed and then turned, leaving the chamber and then the palace. He made his way back to Shaellana. "Well?" she asked. "He gave us his thanks. His Royal Guards will attempt to follow us." Shaellana smirked. "They can try." "That's what I told him." Mordain stopped, however, a wave of concern washing over his hidden face. "Arhaina..." Shaellana looked up at him. "What?" "Arhaina is still missing. Elandir went to find her, with Brae. I will see her returned before I leave." Shaellana rose. "I'll go with you." Mordain shook his head. "No. I don't want you to see this." He spread his wings and took off into the air, flying at an incredible speed. --Leaves Asulien-- --Enters Dark Elf Camp-- |

"Do you think you will be able to follow them?" asked James. "We will do our best, but with those wings he's got," said Kassal, and he shrugged. "Very well," said James. "I tried." "That's all you can do, James," said Rebecca, patting his arm. "Can you bring Darnil Tey and the rest of the Generals who survived the battle here?" asked James. "Yes, my Liege," said Kassal, and he passed the order along to another Guardsman who rushed out. |

Shaellana moved through the city. She had to find Marr, and Zeal. They would need to be told what had happened. What was going to happen. Those two would have to take more roles within Weissland now that Shaellana and Mordain were leaving. |

Nathaniel Drakkon walked silently through the crowds in the city. He did not know where he was going, just sure he wanted to be elsewhere. Religion, he thought darkly. The monks held such sway already over the King. Nathaniel had heard the crowds cheering, it might as well have been a deadly silence. What had the King expected? It was a coronation, at the end of one of the worst wars Weissland had ever faced. He could have told them to worship turnips and they would have cheered. This city, Asulien, was run by the Order of the Light. Every citizen and most from the entire region were here because they were believers, followers. The others, the shattered survivors from Ataya, Adae and other places. They were just happy to be alive. Nathaniel knew that the rest of Weissland had given up on the religion and the vaunted monks long ago. Now that the war was over they would not go back on that, and that put these monks and their people firmly in the catagory of minority. As he walked, the black-clad mage watched the crowds, the revelers, celebrating life. Moving through the crowds he saw the joy on their faces, it made him happy, but he was also glad his hood concealed his face from them. Suddenly ahead of him he saw a flash of long red hair turning and disappearing through the crowd. For a moment he thought, but shook the notion off. She would not be here, the mage lords would have mentioned if Jessa was here. After a long time he found himself outside of the inner city. He continued walking through the shattered ruins of the outer city, clambered over the debris of the outer wall, and finally was free of the city. Cool air reached him, making the folds of his black robe flutter and flap. He cast a glance at the ruined tower where he had fought the vampire, and saved that fool mage lord. It had been a struggle, but he had prevailed. How could he, or anyone for that fact, have known that in the deep, dark recesses of the previous night, Kor'Mor'Oka had crawled from the wreckage. A burnt and scarred mess, wingless and half dead, the vampire had survived by some dark miracle, and crawled, slid and dragged itself away from the city to find somewhere darker to hide. All that was on Kor'Mor'Oka's mind was blood, a terrible hunger which pounded in the undead mind of the vampire. |

Shaellana had not found those that she sought, but that didn't matter to her at the moment. She stood in a ruined, desolate part of the city, near the outer wall. There, she vented her fury. Rubble was blown back, walls were scorched with such heat that they disolved into nothing. Tears streamed from her face and fire erupted from her fingertips. None of it was fair. |

Standing alone, Nathaniel began to hear sounds drifting towards him from the city. It was like debris falling, rocks scraping on rocks. Maybe just a building finally collapsing after the destruction wrought. He thought about investigating, but he was unsure. |

Shaellana slumped to her knees upon the ground. She leaned over, crying. Thoughts of the battle, of the journey from Ataya, of all that she and Mordain burned through her mind. And then it all came back to James's order. Fury renewed, she threw herself to her feet, extended her arms and sent a collosal blast of fire into a near-collapsed building in front of her. The wall was obliterated and the building collapsed. |

Nathaniel started at the next noise he heard, a building being destroyed with such ferocity he was sure he could feel it in his bones. Drakkon turned and headed off in the direction of the sound, stumbling his way quickly over the rubble of the wall. Rushing through the broken remains of houses and streets, he found the source of the disturbance. Seeing the form of Shaellana ahead of him, he drew his sword and looked around saying "What's going on? Are there still enemies within the city?" |

Shaellana turned to Nathaniel, so surprised by his sudden appearance that she almost lashed out against him. But when she took in that it was just him, she let her hands fall to her sides. She couldn't hide her tears from him as she once more slumped to her knees on the ground, her fiery power retreating back within her. |

Nathaniel could sense that something was horribly wrong, but there were no enemies. Perhaps that was something he should work on, assuming that every problem revolved around an enemy to fight with steel and magic. He sheathed the blade, ignoring it for once. Taking a few steps forward he knelt down on one knee and said calmly "What is wrong? Please, tell me what has happened?" |

Shaellana's eyes were directed at the ground, and still she cried. But she forced words from her mouth. "J-James has ordered M-Mordain to leave the coun-try, just so h-he doesn't upset those bastard monks!" She threw her hand out, speaking a word of magic to sent a bolt of fire at a pile of rubble, scattering it upon impact. |
