Everything Bayel said was true, he knew there was no point lying to Shaellana. He spoke clearly, but quietly enough that only Shaellana would be able to hear "You know there is going to be a trial and if Nathaniel stays quiet he will be dead, guilty or innocent. I can talk to him, perhaps convince him to speak up. I owe him that much."

Shaellana shot glances between the wagon and the general before her. FInally, she sighed and nodded. "Very well. You may speak with him." She took a step closer. "But I will be right here. Your opposition to the man's arrest is well-known by now. Do not try anything, Bayel."
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

((Where are most of the refugees being brought? Into the houses of the people living there, or some camp within the city walls? Or into the fortress?))

((I think the main concern is just getting them into the city.))

Bayel ignored her as he headed to the wagon but said "The only thing I'm going to try is to do the right thing. You should try it sometime."

He entered the wagon and stood in front of Nathaniel Drakkon. He sighed deeply and said "How are you doing then?"

Nathaniel said "I'm fine. How long until the trial?"

Bayel shook his head "I don't know, things are hectic at the moment. With the refugees and getting the defence set up, it could be a while."

Nathaniel nodded slightly "What is happening with the refugees?"

Bayel smiled slightly as he noticed Nathaniel trying to change the subject and direct the conversation away from what he wanted to talk about. He already knew why Bayel was here. The general answered "Well, we brought the refugees from Ataya, Adae and the surrounding area as well as the ones from Fargon to Asulien. The rest have gone west, but until they reach their destinations we can't confirm anything. It's digging in time now, the forces here can't really do anything but prepare and wait."

Nathaniel said "We'll win. It will be difficult but Weissland will win."

Bayel nodded "Yes, but we need everyone we can get. At the trial, you have to tell them. Don't just keep your mouth shut, use that quick wit and get yourself out of this."

Nathaniel shook his head "But the oath, I cannot just abandon it to save myself."

Bayel replied "Do I have to make this an order?"

"Do you think that will make me change my mind?" Nathaniel said.

Bayel sighed once more and said "If you won't speak up then it's obvious you will die. I can't change your mind though." The general turned and walked away, leaving the wagon and heading back towards his billet. Nathaniel returned to his quiet contemplation.

Ranorist breathed out in gratifying relief as they passed below the city gates in the thick column. The solders biggest concern was to get the refugees to move quickly, but still they watched with wery eyes. All the Warriors of Mjolnir had removed their recognizable Mjolnir Armor and also made great concern to avoid any people who could recognize them such as Mordain, the generals or the mage lords. They also hoped that Shaellana was far away and hopefully busy so that she would not sense Cloudwulfe. Of course neither Ranorist, Justin nor Bana knew of that worked for the woman following Mordain so there was little left but hope.

But still they would have to move to an area most far from any area where Mordain or Shaellana would be. And they had to do it quickly. They followed the stream of refugees down into the lower city of Asulien, where most of the citizens lived. It was the eastern part of the city. The citadel was in the northern part, while the enormous temple was in the western. It would be the safest place, Ranorist hoped.

"Drathmor is not our only enemy, Mordain. This task may determine the fate of the world as we know it."

"Security over all areas of the sanctuary has only increased with the coming of war," Jaunne said. "What makes you think we are in danger now?"

"Caution and foresight, paladin! What makes you think we were ever safe?" Arhaina said. "And what better time to strike than when Asulien is in chaos, with the army and masses of refugees coming in, and an undead army following?"

"I must abide by the Third Duty," Khanden said. "I will allow no additional danger to come of our entrance."

Then why did you not warn me he would survive?

Kalon repeated: "What creature do you speak of?"

Mordain folded his arms. "What form does this threat take, Arhaina?"

-----

Shaellana glared at the general as he went past. Did he not realise her hands were tied? She strongly doubted Nathanniel was guilty, but no chances could be taken. She was doing what she had to. But, there were other matters that needed attending to. Drakkon would be put on trial, but not yet. Further defences needed to be made first.

The High Seeker walked away from the wagon and sought-out Seeker officers as well as all the captains she could find. She gathered them around her.

"The refugees are being moved into the city, and others have been sent west. For the time being, our responsibility to them is finished. Now we must turn our attention to furthering the defences of this city. I want you all to take charge of this. Do whatever you can. Dig trenches outside the city, fill the ground with stakes, set traps; do whatever you can!"

"How long do we have until the enemy arrive?" asked one of the Seeker officers.

Shaellana shook her head. "I don't know. But scouts will be sent. You make a good point, Seeker. Knowledge will be more powerful to us now than ever."

They were stood near the gates of the city for these discussions and it was then that Shaellana heard the battle cry of the Az'Gor, though the name of the clan would have to be changed now that Gor was dead. The High Seeker walked to stand in the city gates and watched as the large force of Az'Gor tribesmen approached with Marr leading them. He saluted Shaellana as he approached her.

"The Az'Gor are here and ready to fight for Weissland." said Marr.

Shaellana leaned close, her voice nothing more than a whisper. "Have you told them?"

"Yes. They are deciding who will be their next chief. And they want to speak with Mordain."

"That will have to wait. Mordain is busy organising the defences with the Order of Light commander."

-----

The voice's power surged around Kalon. "A damned soul, as good as lost to this world, but I have seen him. I thought him dead; but still he lives. This man, an elf, goes by the name of Wyrillyn Thaendil."

((I return, begrudgingly sober.))

Mordus motioned the driver to divert from the stream of people pouring into the city and head for the Order of Light Headquarters. The four Seekers that had previously attended Drakkon clung standing to the four corners of the vehicle, watching coldly as was their creed.

The entourage wound its way through the wide and well paved streets of the lower and finaly upper city, mounting the slight incline that reached a peak as they entered the courtyard of the keep.

The Wagon stopped and the Seekers dismounted it alongside Mordus.

Guards from the portculis they had passed through eyed them from behind, as did ones from the arched doors of the keep. More unnerving were the great gargoyles that peered from every ornately wrought corner or point, battleing smaller figures of men. The whole place reminded Mordus of some ancient and eternal struggle, sprawled over the whole keep.

Shaellana looked around. She watched as the soldiers of Weissland began constructing defences beyond the city walls. And she looked at the Az'Gor. They would need to find their place within the city.

"Seek out a desirable residence within the city, my friends." said Shaellana. "For now, I must speak with lord Mordus."

With that, Shaellana turned and left the scene. She moved through the city until she found Mordus, as well as the wagon housing Nathanniel Drakkon.

"Tell me, lord Mordus; the war is coming to this city, what do you plan to do?"

Mordus gave a bow of aknowledgement and resettled his hands amidst his cloak. "I will see to my duties. The suspect Drakkon I will enter into the dundgeons of the keep and leave to await judgement. Then I wish to take my leave. For a while." He said.

"If these are indeed the end times then I hope you will condone a moment of recollection. Every man is privy to meet his end as he so wishes, is he not?"

Shaellana frowned. "Everyone must choose for themselves, lord Mordus. Duty, or desire. For each and every soul in Weissland, one will rank above the other. But your are powerful, and an asset to this land. I would hope that the former would come first for you."

Mordus turned and made for the keep entrance and the Seekers followed with Drakkon in towe, still shakled and supported by a Seeker on either side.

Mordus stopped momentarily as the Seekers disappeared into the shadow of the fortress, and looked back.

"...Thank you." He said before leaving. Somewhat out of tune with his usual demeanour. He could not remembering the last time he had been honestly commended.

"How do you know he is within my power?" Kalon asked. "Or that this information of yours is worth so much to me?"

"Dark elves, Mordain," Arhaina answered. "There will be two battles to be fought, and you both will be needed to command the army. Let me take care of this second battle."

Laughter filled the dark elf's mind. "Nothing an be hidden from me; not the whereabouts of the man I seek, nor your heart's desire. I know you want to end Lathaon Thaendil, and the knowledge I hold will allow you to do so before this day is done!"

-----

Even with his hood, the shroud covering his face and his long robes, Mordain's shock was clear. "Dark elves? Here, in Asulien of all places? They have surely grown brave if they have come to the stronghold of the Order of Light." But then, he sighed and paced forward. "It is true that we," gesturing to the Order of Light commander, "will be needed on the battlefield, but are you sure that you here can handle these elves? Do you know who is leading them?"

"Cyrredlues himself, most likely. If he has entered the sanctuary undetected then there will be few others with him, and I don't think he is as skilled as Khanden, here. As long as we reach him quickly, we will be able to stop him."

Jaunne listened and said "Regardless, you will be accompanied by a retinue of Ordermen."

"Why him?" Kalon asked.

Mordain looked over at Jaunne and nodded. "That would be wise. Regardless of how skilled you think Kalon Cyrredlues is, he is very, very dangerous. Of that there can be no debate. All help should be given. I feel I should send a number of my Legion soldiers with you, too."

"My reasons are my own, Kalon."

"If the dark elves are going for the artefacts held beneath this city, then we can afford to lose a small number of soldiers from the battlefield if it means stopping them." said Mordain.

"Broken or not, he will still serve my purposes. My servants will come for him, soon."

"So you are asking me to allow your servants into the domain of an ally? This could lose me followers as well as influence in Rathor," Kalon pointed out. "You know how long it has taken for me to gain these. It could potentially halt the advance across Lathor."

"Choose a handful then, but no more," Arhaina said. She started to leave. Brae and Khanden would follow, but hopefully the others would remain hidden. It seemed pointless to bring them after all, even Elandir in the state he was currently in.
