"Have it your way." The dragon through himself forward and spun through the air. The bone and rotting flesh that had given him this form erupted from him and struck James, catching him off guard. Drathmor was still in the air as he retook his true form. He summoned a large, dark, runic blade into his hands as he dropped towards James. He brought his blade down upon the man, who raised to block. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

James was able to parry away Drathmor's strike, but the Dark Lord continued to attack, and James could do nothing but parry the strikes from the ground. His opponent's attack continued until with one strong blow, Drathmor separated James's sword from his hand, striking it hard enough to knock it out of his grasp and sending it flying far out of reach. |

Narandar watched from futher back. He had taken a head wound and could barely see. Only a fraction remained of the banner he had held, and that small part was covered in holes and tears. The Royal Guards had been stretched too thinly; many had been crushed by the sheer number of the undead and a few of the others waited down below with Elandir. Their duties were unclear with Weissland's leadership in tatters as it was. Those still outside were scattered and too far from the duel to make a difference. Elandir's men were gone. Most of them had been sent north to find the Dark Elf camp and the rest were dead or down below. |

Drathmor drew his free hand through the air, casting James's sword away to a distant part of the area with unseen magic. He brought his blade down upon James, but his foe rolled and dodged. |

James kicked at the back of Drathmor's leg as he spun away from the attack, catching his opponent in the back of his knee and causing him to buckle. Taking advantage of the momentary opportunity, James heaved himself up and sprinted towards his sword. |

Drathmor's eyes rose towards James, his patience running out. He flicked his wrist towards James; in responce, a stray piece of rubble shot across the ground and struck the man's feet, sending him to the ground. The Dark Lord climbed to his feet and advanced towards James. He lifted his free hand and invoked a powerful spell. The ground began to crack, focussing around the Castoden blade. It was opening a deep fissure which Drathmor hoped would soon swallow the holy blade forever. |

The Dark Lord continued his advance. He shot another piece of rubble at James, but this time the man was able to leap over it. He was getting closer and closer to his blade. Drathmor hastened his pace, though he was still walking, his long runeblade held in one hand. |

James continued to run, and looking over his shoulder saw that Drathmor was keeping up and even catching up, although it seemed the Dark Lord was not even running, just taking long strides. Suddenly, another piece of rubble flew at James, once too large and too fast for him to dodge, and it struck him in the back, knocking him to the ground and knocking the wind out of him. He lay on the ground for a moment, wheezing and trying to breathe, and rolled over to see Drathmor walking up to him. He looked over at his sword, perhaps fifteen feet away, out of reach, and then looked up as Drathmor towered over him. |

Drathmor held his sword out in one hand, letting James see the dark runes dance along the blade. He lifted his free hand and flicked his fingers. In responce, James's helmet flew off, directed by Drathmor's unseen magic. "The face of Weissland's hope. I honestly expected you to be older. These people put so much faith in you. They placed their heart, strength and resolve in your hands, and look at you! You can't even stand!" said Drathmor, his voice showing a mix of seething hatred and satisfaction. "How did they ever expect a boy to save them?" |

"You're right, I am young," said James. "You're right, they were foolish to put their faith in me. What were they thinking? I asked myself the same question over and over. But do you know what I realized? I'm not here alone. All of Weissland stands with me today. Everyone who died to make sure I got to this point is with me today, and you may kill me, but I'm taking you with me." |

Drathmor smirked and leaned closer. "It doesn't look like they're with you. It looks like you're down here facing me, and they're watching. It looks like you are all alone, James." He paused as he rose to his full height once more. "But, maybe they are right to stand and watch you die. Maybe it's occured to them that they would have suffered far less had you given yourself over to me long ago. Much of this war would have been avoided. Did that ever occur to you, lord Castoden?" |

"It did, and I almost did," said James. "Did you know that? But then they all made me realize something: that freedom is the greatest thing anyone can have, greater than life, and that the people of Weissland would rather die than live under your yoke." |

Drathmor laughed. "Oh, poor, misguided mortal. I do not need them alive in order to rule them. This land will watch you die, and then they will watch their champion rise as another mindless servant amongst my ranks. And they will despair. And they will perish. And they too will rise. The failure of your ancestor is almost complete!" The Dark Lord chanted a spell that called the souls of the dead into him, vastly increasing his physical strength. Then, suddenly, he gripped his blade with both hands and plunged it downwards, punching through James's armour and driving straight into his stomach. "Die now under the watchful eyes of despair." |

James's eyes shot wide open and tears formed at their corners as the blade pierced his armor and plunged into his stomach. He was silent for a moment and then screamed in pain, causing Drathmor to throw his head back and begin to laugh, a deep, evil, booming laugh that echoed across the now-silent battefield. However, as Drathmor continued to laugh, James rolled over and began pulling himself, foot by foot, over towards his blade. |

The Dark Lord watched James crawl forwards. "This is pathetic!" roared the Dark Lord, kicking James violently as he moved. "What? Do you hope to miraculously pull victory from the very clutches of oblivion? Do you think some higher power will descend and save you?" James kept moving. Drathmor's hands clenched tight with rage. "Why? Why do you keep going? It is all over! Everything you know is at an end. Admit it!" He kicked James again. |

James, bleeding and in enormous pain, nevertheless gritted his teeth and did not respond. Now he was only feet away from his sword, when Drathmor slammed his foot down on James's back, pinning him to the ground. |

Drathmor lowered his sword, placing the tip of his sword against James's back. "Hope is dead, James. It has failed you, just as you have failed your people. Abandon this ridiculous attempt at salvation and give yourself to the darkness that awaits!" |

James brought his hands back next to his chest slowly, saying, "You can't kill hope." Then, with all his strength, he pushed up, throwing Drathmor off balance and allowing James to throw himself forward. His right hand wrapped around the hilt of his sword as he looked over his should to see Drathmor lunging at him. James spun over, thrusting his ancient blade up. The sword pierced Drathmor's armor and plunged into his heart, impaling the Dark Lord. "Go back to hell," spat James, and he yanked his sword out. |

Drathmor stopped dead in his tracks. He dropped his sword as his hands trembled and moved to clutch his chest. He felt the wound and lifted his fingers to his face, looking at the black blood upon them. James had struck true; the Dark Lord's heart had been pierced. The power faded from Drathmor's eyes as he looked down on the man before him. "Krod-dalis told... you..." He spluttered blood. "I w-was... too late.." Drathmor fell to his knees, but kept his eyes fixed on James. "You have n-no idea what you ha-have let... into this... world..." Suddenly, the Dark Lord recoiled and howled in pain. All across the land of Weissland, the death of the Great Necromancer could be felt. Hundreds of thousands of undead crumbled to dust, and the Dark Disciples erupted in ghostly pillars. The skies above Asulien formed a vortex, with pure darkness at its centre. Bolts of black lightning crackled forth, stirking the ground near Drathmor. "Master... NO!" cried the Dark Lord. His body was torn apart by an unseen force and carried into the vortex, which closed once Drathmor was gone. Nothing remained of the Dark Lord, save blackened earth to mark where he had fallen. The dark clouds receeded and sunlight flooded the city of Asulien once more. |
