Drathmor vanished in a haze of darkness, only to reappear next to James. He swung his sword for James's head, but found the sword skills of his foe quite impressive; James was able to block. Drathmor pushed down against him. "To deny your greatest strength is nothing short of maddness." said the Dark Lord. He pulled back, vanished and reappeared behind James. He launched a number of slashes against his foe. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

James was able to parry each of the Dark Lord's attacks, and even put in a few of his own, but his enemy had caught him off guard and James was being forced back. They locked swords, and as they pressed against each other in combat, James stared through the eye slit of his helmet and said, "So you are a coward?" |

The Dark Lord spun away and knocked James to the ground by swinging his staff at his foe's legs. He rose and made to stab his sword down upon the man, but James rolled out of the way. "There is nothing cowardly about power, boy. Didn't the Thaendils teach you anything?" |

As James rolled out of the way, however, he slashed at Drathmor's staff, slicing it cleanly in two. "It seems not," replied James. |

The Dark Lord's staff fell to the ground and crumbled away to ash. He propelled himself backwards and rose into the air, weaving his hands to form a spell. "The dead will pull you into their world, James Castoden." Skeletal hands shot from the ground, grabbing at James and pulling him down to his knees. Drathmor lifted his sword and hurled it straight for James's heart. |

Several people on the wall and inside the gate gasped and made moves to go help James, but Kelan stepped forward and held out his hands to stop them. "No," said the monk. As the skeletal hands grabbed James's armor and held it, they suddenly began to sizzle and burn, and then whisped away into dust. James looked down in amazement, and then back up at the sword. He threw himself out of the way just in time, rolling up and holding his sword at the ready. James looked down at his blessed armor in wonderment as he waited for Drathmor to make his move. |

The Dark Lord's eyes went wide. "It cannot be..." he said in a hushed voice. He lowered himself to the ground and summoned his sword back to his hand. Quickly, he rushed at James, exchanging further blows with him. He spoke words of magic to augment his blade, wreathing it in black fire. As his blade clashed with the Castoden sword, the fire jumped from the blade with each hit, always trying to lash out against James. |

For some reason as they fought, the fire from Drathmor's sword could not touch James. It came close, and James could feel its heat even through his facemask, but the fire never touched him. |

"The armour is even stronger than I had thought..." said Drathmor. He drew back, causing James to fall forward. The Dark Lord vanished in a cloud of darkness before reappearing, floating some fifteen feet above the ground looking down on James. "Fine. If I can't get through your armour, then I'll just have to find another way to dispatch you." Drathmor held out his hands. They glowed with dark energy as he began his spells. Rubble began to rise slowly. Then, one after another, chunks of rubble shot towards James. He was hit by the second, which sent him hurtling backwards, jarring him greatly upon impact and when he hit the ground. He would have to be quick to dodge the rest of the barrage. |

James rolled over and pushed himself, still marveling at this armor's craft. The mithril had not even been dented by the massive stone, although James was having difficulty breathing and each breath sent a jolt of pain through his ribs. More rubble flew at James, but he dived and rolled out of the way of each, narrowly missing most and getting clipped by several. |

Drathmor threw the last of the raised rubble at James and then lowered himself to the ground. Seeing that James had avoided it, he walked towards the man. "That armour is impressive. But nothing can match my power!" The Dark Lord thrust his arms towards James. Streams of sickly-green fire erupted from his palms, shooting straight towards his foe. |

This was something James could not dodge. The fire hit him and engulfed him, yet suddenly it disappeared, as if a strong wind had snuffed it out. James was exhausted, and was sweating even more heavily from the heat of the fire, but he saw an opportunity in Drathmor's surprise and rushed at the Dark Lord, shouting and bring his sword back to attack. |

James's sword cut across the Dark Lord's chest. The wound was not deep, but it tore through Drathmor's skin and left a wound that glowed with a brilliant, divine light, though that faded quickly. The wound remained. The Dark Lord recoiled, letting out a yell of pain. His wrathful eyes were back on James soon enough. "You would dare..." He threw his hand towards James. The man was sent backwards by a shockwave that tore the ground apart in its path. The Dark Lord rose into the air once more and surrounded himself with an aura, the same colour as the fire had been. From this aura spawned many great tendrils. Drathmor directed them with his hands down towards James, hoping to snare and crush him. |

James hacked at the tendrils as they came at him, slicing and slashing them and cutting cleanly through them with his sword. He was getting exhausted, but he fought on; the fate of Weissland, and indeed the world, depended on it. |

Drathmor pressed his attack, lowering himself slightly and intensifying the assault of his tendrils. James was cutting them down, but they were never-ending. He would tire. ----- From the wall, Shaellana stood with Mordain and watched. "He's exhausted!" exclaimed Shaellana. "How can we let him do this alone?" "He has to." replied Mordain. "He is the only one that can kill the Great Necromancer." "But... he's going to be killed. Look, he's finding it hard to stand!" She turned to Mordain. "Do something, please." Mordain raised his hand, holding his palm towards James. He chanted the words of a spell. Healing magic filled James, giving him renewed strength. ----- Drathmor sensed the magic used by Mordain. He turned towards the wall and tore his hand through the air. In responce, a shockwave ripped through the wall where Mordain and Shaellana stood. As it cleared, however, Drathmor saw Mordain some twenty feet above the wall, kept there by his demonic wings. He held Shaellana in his arms. The Dark Lord turned back to James. |

Drathmor laughed darkly. "Like a 'man'?" He lowered himself to the ground. "Oh, but I can be so much more!" The Great Necromancer lifted his arms and invoked powerful magic. The bones and bodies of the fallen around him were torn apart and drawn to him. They augmented his form, changing him. Be became an undead dragon, though lacking wings and certainly not full size. His new form was perhaps twice the size of his true body. The Dark Lord charged towards James and opened his maw. He breathed forth a great cone of deathly energy as he advanced. |

The dragon roared and turned sharply, striking James with his tail. He moved towards his enemy, once more letting loose his deathly cone of magic. "You cannot defeat me. Haven't you learned that yet?" taunted Drathmor. |
