Moarbrek recoiled, roaring with a mix of pain and fury. He turned to see the man that had attacked him. He struck out at this one too. He threw the man backwards, before picking up a nearby spear and walking over to him. Without mercy, regret or caring, he drove the spear through the man's shoulder, pinning him to the ground. When he turned, however, he was met with the side of a wooden beam to his face. Mordain had risen and thrown it against him. Moarbrek staggered back; he was weakening. He reached and pulled the sword from his back. "You just... don't give up, do you?" rasped the Lich Lord. "I cannot. This land, these people," he shot a quick glance towards James, "and my King are what keep me going. I will not let them be tormented by your kind any longer!" Mordain rushed forward and forced his hands deep within Moarbrek's rib cage. He focussed power, the kind of power he had not released in a long time, into his hands. Moarbrek struggled, but Mordain would not let go. "Your kind will fall!" whispered Mordain. Fiery, chaotic magic erupted from Mordain's hands, within Moarbrek. The Lich Lord howled as the explosion tore him apart, casting what little remained of him across the battlefield. Mordain was thrown backwards by his own magic. He landed, coughing violently and writhing in pain. His vision began to go hazzy. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

James grabbed his sword and rushed over to where Darnil was laying, slicing through a zombie as he ran. Darnil's chest was covered in blood from his impaled shoulder, and he writhed in pain as James ran over. James sheathed his sword and put his hands on the spear, but Darnil shook his head. "Leave it," the Lieutenant said. "No," replied James. "Milord," replied Darnil. "On three," said James. "One!" James yanked the spear out with all his might, and Darnil let out a scream of intense pain. "Lord Castoden!" shouted a voice, and James turned just in time to duck a swing by a Fell Knight and thrust into the Knight's stomach. He pulled his sword out and pulled Darnil to his feet. "Let's go!" shouted James, pushing Darnil back towards the inner wall. |

Shaellana dropped from the wall and rushed over to Mordain who lay on the ground, struggling to breathe. "My Lord!" she cried as she fell to her knees beside him. "Sha-ellana... I... I kill-killed him..." spluttered Mordain. Tears were building in her eyes, but she wiped them away. "Come on. You've got strength left in you yet. We need to get back to the inner wall." "I... can't. Too we-weak." She called over an Az'Gor. "Carry him!" A fel knight rushed towards them as the Az'Gor lifted Mordain. Shaellana cut through the legs of the knight's mount before slicing the knight's head off as it fell. "Move!" she cried. They fled quickly towards the inner wall. "Withdraw! Fall back, leave the gate! To the inner wall!" |

The Weisslanders began to fall back into the inner walls, but James knew that it would be some time before the entire force that had manned the wall and fought within it would be able to retreat. "Rally to me!" he shouted, throwing his arm up. "Defend the inner gate!" James's veterans, who had been by this point reduced to less than four thousand, stood strong with him, closing in and forming around him. "We are with you, Milord," said Darnil. "Get out of here," said James. "Get inside the wall and get tended to. You can't even hold a sword." "I have two hands, Milord," replied Darnil with a bloody smile. James looked at him for a moment before cracking a smile and nodding. "Yes you do." Turning back to the front, James saw that the undead were now pouring through the gate while to either side, Weisslanders fled through the second gate. "Stand strong! Stand strong!" |

The Az'Gor moved quickly back, but not without hacking down undead as they went. Many moved through the gates, but just under a thousand remained with James and his men to fight and cover the retreat. Shaellana ran with the Az'Gor who carried Mordain. Undead came at them, but she either cut them down or blasted them with wrathful fire. "Come on, hurry!" she cried to the brutish warrior carrying her Lord. ----- From high above the battlefield, Malathos descended upon his draon towards Drathmor. He sent a bolt of dark power at the monster and cast him away from his demonic summoning circle. Then, he threw himself from his mount and landed with a sword drawn. "You will not awaken a demon on this day, Dark Lord." spat Malathos. "The great and powerful Malathos." said Drathmor, rising from the ground with his staff in-hand. "Moarbrek has told me much of your kind, the pupils of Zeal. But you are far from ready to face my kind of power." "Oh?" asked Malathos with a smile. His dragon circled around and sent a jet of fire towards Drathmor. But the Dark Lord smiled, too. He lifted his hand; the dragon's fire was stopped and built into a ball within Drathmor's hand. He threw it at Malathos so fast that the Dragon Lord was unable to respond. He was struck by the fire and it killed him. Then, Drathmor spun his staff, spoke two words and sent a collosal bolt of magic into the dragon. The majestic creature was dropped from the sky by the spell and lay dead upon the ground. Drathmor smirked. "Pathetic." He returned to his ritual. |

The undead met the Weisslander force, but the veterans kept their shield wall strong, thrusting with swords and spears from behind the sturdy wood and metal. Most of the Fell Knights had been scattered or killed during the initial charge through the gate, and now it was mostly zombies and skeletons doing the fighting, and the Weisslanders were able to hold their ground while their comrades continued to retreat through the gates. |

Shaellana rushed up to the defenders and hurried past them. When she saw James, she stopped, though she ushered for the Az'Gor carrying Mordain to keep going. "My Lord, you need to fall back." she said urgently. |

Shaellana looked around, saw what was coming, frowned and then said, "Fine." She walked forward and swept her sword through the air, speaking words of magic as she did so. A wave of fire short forth, igniting many of the undead and throwing more back under the force of the impact. |

There was a lull in the combat, and James took the opportunity to step outside the shield wall and look to either side, noting that there were now only stragglers running to the safety of the inner wall. Turning to face his men, James shouted, "Begin falling back! Orderly! Keep it together!" Looking at Shaellana, James cocked his eyebrow. "Happy?" |

Shaellana nodded and fell back with the rest of them. Suddenly, however, she stopped. Slowly, she turned to look back over the battlefield. Her spirit vision allowed her to see something... horrible. A great darkness was descending from another plane, into the undead camp. "Go. GO!" she shrieked, rushing inside the gates. "Get the gates closed, quickly!" ----- Drathmor spoke the final words of his spell and stepped back with his arms spread. The demonic circle before him erupted and a titanic form shot from it, formed from the very shadows. It was a massive serpent, but its head was different. It had twelve eyes, a massive gaping maw, five rows of teeth and six horns adorning the back of its skull. "Tremble Weissland before the Beholder, brought here from a world beyond your own. Know the terror of the next dimension." spoke the Dark Lord. He thrust his arm forward. "Attack!" The serpent began moving across the battlefield, straight for the city, crushing undead as it went. |

"Fall back!" shouted James, and his men began to move backwards within the gates. They made it in within a matter of moments and the massive gates swung shut. Seeing Shaellana and the look of panic on her face, James walked over and grabbed her shoulders. "What? What is it?" |

Shaellana took a moment to regain her composure. "A demon, from another world, another existence. Lord Mordain and I battled one long ago. I had hoped never to encounter another... It takes a dark will to summon such a thing, but an even stronger will to control one." She ran up onto the wall. "Target that monster! Bows, magic, siege weapons! Throw everything at it!" |

The demon reached the outer wall. It reared up, showing its size. It was close to twice the height of the wall. The demon allowed itself to fall, smashing through a chunk of the outer wall. Undead poured through. Arrows and bolts were shot at the creature in vast quantities, but did little. The demon moved further forward, smashing through the buildings as it made its advance towards the inner wall. |

James looked at the creature in horror, when suddenly there came a series of thundercracks from behind him, followed by several more. Turning around, James saw a group of white monks materializing inside the inner wall amongst the Weisslander soldiers and begin to run towards the wall. |

Still, the monster advanced, seemingly unaffected by the barage of ranged attacks. Mordain dragged himself to his feet and propped himself against one of the battlements. "James... Your sword... lay it beside me..." he said weakly. |

Knowing his sword was no more use for the moment, James did so, then turned as one of the monks approached him. "My Lord, please come with me," said the monk. "Why?" asked James. "There is something we have for you," said the monk. "Now?" asked James in surprise. "Now, of all times?" "Please come with us, My Lord," said the monk. |
