Shaellana was doing her best to stem the tide of dark minions, but the orcs were far harder to slay than the walking corpses. These were some of the most brutal soldiers Drathmor could offer. They were clad in heavy, spiked, cruel armour and wielded massive weapons, designed to cleave through the enemy with no level of subtlety.

She spun, slashing out at anything that came near. But two orcs rushed her and knocked her back. She had to roll to avoid the falling weapon of one of them.

-----

Urden'Hel rushed towards the massive ram that was being moved towards the gates.

"Defend this ram, my servants!" he called.

Atop the gatehouse, he saw archers moving to fire at the construct. He raised his fiery sword; a great jet of fire flew from his blade, striking out at all those atop the gatehouse.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Nathaniel blocked, parried, then kicked out, knocking the vampire back. Still the vampire grinned wickedly and said "Come now, I expected better than this."

The mage growled "I've barely begun, undead scum!" He made a move as if to swipe at the vampire with his sword, but stopped short and spoke under his breath the words to a spell.

Kor'Mor'Oka dodged back from the sword, not realising the mage's intent. A ball of lightning formed around Nathaniel's free hand, growing in size and intensity within seconds. With a final few words, the mage cast the lightning at the vampire. Kor'Mor'Oka dived aside, narrowly avoiding the attack. The ball of lightning rushed along, scuffing the top of the crenulations, sending sparks and stone dust off in different directions. The lightning continued on, heading downwards and spinning slightly before it finally struck against one of the siege towers trundling towards the walls.

The world spinned out of focus as he lay crumpled by the wall. Sword shorn from his hand on impact and his ragged cloak cast about over him as he lay chest down, Mordus' vision shifted from pitch black to a tinted bloody red as the clamour of steel ringed menacingly in his head.
His forehead seeped thick blood onto his face and he retched for air under what seemed a mountain of pressure; emmiting a garbled sound as his punctured lung quivered with strain.

A semblance of a man appeared out of nowhere into his failing vision, features distorted by much blood in his eyes.

Mordus half gurgled and spat out a blood drenched word. Short and ill made.

"Sw...aughrd.."

James looked around for Mordus's sword, and, upon finding it, picked it up and walked back over to the man. Holding the man's sword in one hand, James held out his other hand in an offer to pick him up.

Narak hooked Mordain upwards, then with a quick strike to the side of his face, knocking the mage backwards.

"You are powerful, demon. But nothing can deny the might of the Defiled Kingdom!"

-----

Shaellana moved back to avoid the swing of an orc's weapon. Then, she cut through the beast's tendons on its weapon arm. The orc cried out in agony before Shaellana sliced through its neck, severing its head.

Then, she saw the commotion atop the barracks. Narak'Phel battled with... Mordain? My Lord, why have you forsaken your disguise?

Mordus raised a shaking hand and grabbed the hilt of the sword. The weight of it brought his straining hand, along with the weapon, to the ground.
With great pain - broken bones grinding against each other - he rolled over to his back and flung the blade straight up, piercing a swooping gargoyle through its side.

The creature struggled to regain its flight at first but eventually plunged down to land in a heap several yards from Mordus and Castoden.

A strange light sifted rappidly from the beast to Mordus, bringing him back to full conciousness with an audible gasp of air.

Mordus stood back up gingerly as the sound of realligning bones and sealing flesh resounded unnaturaly.

Mordus grimmaced and gave a nod to Castoden.

"I'll give you that one Castoden, but don't expect me to be in you're debt for long."
He said annoyedly.

((I'm presuming the mage lord that Moarbrek approaches is Andros ? ))

Ariakas helped bind the wound that had been dealt to the torso of Bana.

"Bana," he said. "Bana. You will get through this. This is not the end for you yet."

Mordain rolled over, staring back with fury in his eyes at the vampire lord. Laughing, the vampire took a final blade from beneath his cloak and walked towards Mordain with the intent of delivering the final blow. He stood over the mage, dagger held ready to strike. As his arm fell towards Mordain, the mage flipped round and grabbed the vampire's wrist stopping the blade inches from his face.

"This... will not... be my end!" he roared.

He threw Narak's arm back and then cast the vampire away with a punch from his other hand. He rose quickly, rushing towards Narak and hitting him again and again, not giving him a chance to respond. Then, he drew his arm back, summoned a sword into his grip and brought it through the vampire's neck. The headless corpse fell to the ground, only to have it's heart pierced by the blade.

"Death will not prevail this day, scum." said Mordain, spitting on the corpse.

He rose and surveyed the wall. With wings spread wide, he hurtled into a cluster of orcs and undead upon the walls, wreathing destructive magic upon them.

-----

Drathmor felt the death of Narak'Phel radiate throughout him. The assault needed to be pressed, the mortals slain before Krodalis could achieve his goal. Drathmor would not fall to his old master.

"Xalis'Khan, go to the city. Do what you must to take the defenders from the wall." said the Dark Lord.

"As you wish, my Lord." replied Xalis.

The undead angelic creature took off into the air, rushing towards the wall. He descended upon it with streams of black fire, as well as ripping the mortals away with his scythe.

Mordus flinched as he heard the scream of his enemy, distratcing him from Castoden. The seraphim punged towards the defending wall in a blazing fury and Mordus snarled viciously as he jumped into the air to meet the creature in combat, expending precious magical reserves.

"This is your end demon!" He bellowed as he raised his blade to strike.

Xalis turned just in time to see the cloaked form lunging towards him. The two colided, Xalis being knocked back under the force. The pair tumbled past the walls, into the mass of undead below. Xalis landed first, cushioning the fall for his attacker.

After landing, he threw the man back and rose to his feet.

"Who are you to challenge me, mortal? Your world is scarred by my mere passing! Lords, emperors and kings have fallen before me. Armies have died before my power. Whatever dreams of heroism you have will die here!"

"No heroism demon. Just vengance." Spat Mordus as he flung himself off from the ground and blasted a path through the undead towards the Disciple.

The decaying images of people from his childhood flashed mercilessly before his eyes as he made a dash for the upright creature. He wished for nothing other than to rip the feathers from his back as he stabbed hard for Xalis'Khan's chest.

The undead seraphin brought his scythe down to block the attack. He snared the attacker's blade within and spun, casting the man away from him in the opposite direction than before. Corpses and skeletal forms moved to consume the mortal, but Xalis held up his hand.

"No, back away. The soul of this one belongs to me!"

"Milord!" shouted Darnil to James. "We have the oil!"

"Pass it amongst the archers!" shouted James back. "Have them fire up their arrows and shoot them at the housing of the ram!"

The Weisslander archers wrapped small clothes around their arrows, dipped them in oil, lit them, and launched them at the housing of the battering ram.

Kor'Mor'Oka discarded his sword and launched a series of attacks against the mage. He lashed out with unnatural speed, using his talons to slash and his gauntlet to punch. Nathaniel deflected several slashes with his sword, taking steps backwards to keep standing. As he blocked on claw, the other one, armoured with a gauntlet, smashed into his chest. The black-clad mage rocked under the impact, winded and gasping for breath. A kick doubled him over, before the vampire swept his feet out from under him.

Nathaniel crashed down onto the stone floor of the tower.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Bayel directed his men, trying to keep the pressure up on the undead on his section of the wall. They had pushed many ladders away from the walls, and the enemy numbers had thinned, but two siege towers were rapidly making their way towards them. With a bellow he ordered his archers to fire. They had finally gotten some oil up to the wall. The volley rattled against the surface of the siege towers with repeated thumps. Some of the arrows stuck against the towers, small points of fire gradually getting larger. Others found no purchase against the surface of the towers and clattered off and down to the ground far below. Even now the old general could see the fires on the ground taking shape. Still he was sure it was little damage against the enemy force assaulting them.

An orc came at Mordain, but soon found the mage's hand clamped firmly around his neck. Mordain lifted the creature off the ground by this grip and threw him from the wall.

Undead were swarming in vast numbers all over the wall, and the gates would soon buckle.

"Back!" he roared. "Fall back to the inner wall!"

James heard Mordain's voice, amplified over the din of battle, shouting, "Back! Fall back to the inner wall!" He turned to see the troops near Mordain turn and begin hurrying down the stairs into the streets and falling back.

Some of James's own men began to turn, but James shouted, "Stand firm! Hold your ground!" The men near him turned and returned to their spots on the wall, rejoining the battle above the gatehouse.

General Bayel roared, his voice becoming hoarse "Hold them, hold them back!" He slashed out twice with his sword, hacking at another undead creature. His shield and armour was already stained with blood and other filth. The old man was starting to get very tired. His men fought on.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nathaniel turned over onto his front, trying to push himself up from the floor. Even as he did so he could hear the vampire saying "This isn't going so well for you is it? I really expected better, the fight you put up when I captured you, your sheer audacity in front of the Master. But maybe we were just taken in by an act?" Smiling sickly he continued "You're just all talk!"

Flying up to the tower was another vampire. As Nathaniel glanced he noticed the body the vampire was holding. He sighed visibly. Val'Mora'Kah dropped down onto the tower with a gesture of triumph. She dumped the still knocked-out body of Tidurion onto the ground and said "Wouldn't it be most spectatular to kill them both together and display them to their comrades?"

Kor'Mor'Oka laughed heartily "How despicably brilliant! That should have a horrible effect on morale. I knew there was a reason I made you!"

((Should probably finish this fight off in the next post.))

The battering ram, albeit in fire, finally reached the gate. Large trolls grabbed onto the giant handles on the sides of the battering ram and pulled it back before letting it go, sending the metal head of the ram slamming into the giant gate. From below, James heard a voice shout, "The gate will not hold!"

Seeing that the walls were being overrun around his men, James shouted, "Down to the gate! Down to the gate! Hold them as they come through!" He turned and began running down the stairs and his men followed.

Time after time the gates shook. On the other side of it, stood seven thousand of the Az'Gor. They were ready. They were just waiting for the gates to buckle, so they could show the foul undead what strength really was.

Finally, the gates flew open and walking skeletons and living corpses shambled through. Thousands came, and thousands were struck down. Time and again. The Az'Gor would not let these monsters through.

-----

Mordain turned, dispelling another undead with his powerful hands. He took flight, rising into the air, and then blasted down into the undead beyond. But the damage he was doing seemed to achieve little against the masses.

-----

Drathmor began a ritual, back at his camp. The ritual was powerful, a dangerous spell to be casting; such was the case with all demonic summoning.
