The veteran Weisslanders on the wall were still holding strong, taking casualties, but holding strong. James had drawn his sword and but had not yet engaged the enemy. The undead had not gained any kind of significant foothold yet on the wall, and he did not feel the urge to go charging off in any direction until something serious happened. There were lulls in the battle, and during one of these James shouted, "Rest! Rest as much as possible! Conserve your energy! You'll need it! Get ready for the next wave!"

Nathremal ripped through the younger, less-experienced soldiers. Three made their way straight for the mage who had struck down a necromancer.

Fleshlings continued their rampant assault.

-----

From his command point, Mordain watched the fighting upon the outer wall. The arrival of the Nathremal was a problem, but there were not enough undead on the wall at the moment to defeat the Weissland force.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Nathaniel stood on the wall and watched as three vampires launched themselves at him. He had expected something like this. The Defiled Kingdom knew their weaknesses as well as the Weisslanders did, and would protect their necromancers. His sword was raised and he was ready, but against three attackers he needed them to make the first move or he would be pulled out of position and slain.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mage lord Tidurion saw the Nathremal begin to attack the walls. With a wave of his staff and several words he sent a gout of flame over the nearest one he could find. The foul creature shrieked as it burned to little more than dust. He took a deep breath tried to take stock of what was happening on the rest of the wall.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some distance from the wall, far enough that he was beyond the reach of any of the mortal's contraptions, Kor'Mor'Oka waited. Beside him was his new acolyte, both of them were eager to spill blood, but he had decided it was not time yet. His keen sight allowed him to watch his prey fighting on the wall, he watched the fight which was about to unfold, as Nathaniel Drakkon prepared to face off against three of the Nathremal. A sly smile crept over his face.

The Nathremal lunged at the mage, blades swinging. They were the elite of the Defiled Kingdom; the mortal was doomed.

-----

A Nathremal flew to the inner wall, forming infront of Mordain to assault and, hopefully, kill the Mage of Shadows.

But Mordain did not so much as flinch. He summoned his sword and cut the creature's head clean from its shoulders without a second of hesitation.

"These wretches over-estimate themselves." he said to Shaellana. Then he turned towards her. "Show them why."

Shaellana nodded. In the next instant, she used her agility to leap from roof to roof until she arrived upon the outer wall. With both swords drawn, she engaged the vampires alongside her fellow Weisslanders.

Nathaniel smiled as he parried the blades of the three vampires. There was no wasted motion, he blocked and parried without putting much effort into it. He said to the vampires, addressing none of them in particular "What's the matter, did you expect this to be easy for you?"

Another attacked, but the mage parried again. However, at that moment, the vampire formed into bats before re-forming rapidly behind the man. It knocked him forward with a powerful punch.

"Likewise." rasped the creature.

-----

Shaellana sliced through the fleshlings with ease, her blades bringing devastation upon them with well-placed cuts and slashes. Nathremal fell before her, either due to her weapons or her fire magic. These wretches threatened her new home. If this was to be her death-bed, she would not go quietly.

Nathaniel whispered to the vampire quietly "Two can play at that game." Standing behind the vampire, he swung with the sword, cleaving the vampire's head from its shoulders. Taking a few steps forward he looked at the other two vampires "Did I forget to mention you've been fighting an illusion for the past few minutes?"

Before the stunned creatures could comprehend what had just happened, Nathaniel chanted the words of a spell and set one of the Nathremal on fire by transmuting the blood in its body into flame. The sword glowed a bright red, and the firelight seemed to reflect in his eyes as he looked at the remaining vampire.

((Sorry for loosing activity completely lately))

Loter Arthious stood in the middle of the fray in an area where the undead had managed to get a foothold on the wall but had been thrown back by the Weisslanders under the leadership of Loter. The majestic lord was swinging his curved spear with deadly movements, at the same time encouraging his brothers and sisters around him.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ariakas had stopped to look at the powerful size of the army, and had not realized Mordain was close before the elf had begun his speech. Now, as most of the Weisslanders fought to throw the undead back Ariakas cared little for either forces. He only fought is way, together with his Mjolnir Warriors, across the wall to get closer to Mordain.

((And so you should be :P Can we expect your activity to return, now?))

Mordain turned and saw Ariakas approaching. "Loremaster; I had not expected to see you again."

-----

The remaining vampire hissed in rage. It launched a series of concentrated, well-placed attacks.

-----

Shaellana's advance seemed unstoppable. Her blades tore through the undead as if they were paper!

Nathaniel blocked and parried, occassionally simply dodging out of the way of the vampire's onslaught. The creature did not tire easily, so he could not find an opening to strike back. This required some thought.

After blocking a high strike and pushing the creature back slightly, Nathaniel said the words to a spell. One of the fallen blades of the other Nathremal wobbled slightly on the ground before flying up and plunging deep into the vampire's torso. Unfortunately it missed the heart and only served to injure the Nathremal. Still it gave Drakkon the opening he needed. He launched a series of quick slashes at the vampire, and although the filth was able to parry and defend against the attacks, it was now the one who was finding it difficult to attack.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mage lord Tidurion had seen the necromancer that the human mage Nathaniel Drakkon had killed. It was so obvious, but the Weissland forces were getting bogged down in fighting the undead, when they should be trying to target the necromancers. As he dispatched another fleshling with his staff, the elven mage lord summoned a great deal of power and spoke words to a spell. There was a rumble in the sky, and bright white lightning struck down. The spell was complex, and designed to target any sources of magic in an area amongst the horde of undead. Bolts of lightning hammered down, five then another three. Each bolt of lightning was fairly weak, it was the cumulative effect which Tidurion hoped would do serious damage. The only problem was that he needed to constantly maintain the spell, leaving him vulnerable.

The Nathremal made a low attack, but it was weak. The mage's attacks had taken its toll. But the vampire would fight on; the undead did not fear their own destruction, nor their enemies, but their masters.

-----

"Perhaps, Ariakas. But the odds are certainly against us. But I can swear that I will give my all to defend this land and its people. And, if I must, then I will give my last to strike down the enemy."

-----

Moarbrek turned to the bone launchers. They were gigantic catapults, made of bone and dark wood. He waved his arm to signal them to fire. With great heaving sounds, the bone launchers loosed their ammo. They did not fire rocks or boulders, but piles of corpses that smashed into the battlements.

The Weisslanders shrieked in horror as dead bodies landed all around them, many of their own countrymen. Then, from a distance, the necromancers spoke their words of magic and the corpses rose to serve their dark masters.

The lightning spell, however, hindered their efforts. Two were struck down, but they were lesser and supported only a small number of undead.

Moarbrek walked to his Master's side. "My Lord, they are learning. The necromancers are not safe."

Drathmor turned slowly to his general. "It matters not. The bulk of this force is supported by my will alone, that and the wills of the necromancer lords. The lesser necromancers are but ants, barely useful. Let them die. Let the Weisslanders think they are winning. It will make their defeat all the more sweet."

"But Master, this lightning storm... it remains a threat."

"The Nathremal will deal with it."

Bana and Justin stood by the back of Ariakas, guarding him. Still, the portion of the wall which they stood was not under direct threat from the enemy. For now at least.

"In case, you do not survive however," Ariakas said. "I need you to tell me something. You were in the Kuren Mountains, sometime around thirty or fourty years ago, I do not know exactly. Brae and Marr was with you. You found an orphan. Who was it?"

Nathaniel blocked the low attack, sensing the lack of strength behind it. He could not be sure about it. Was the vampire badly injured, or was it trying to lure him into making a mistake. The mage made two more attacks of his own in response, before taking half a step backwards to get better positioning on the wall.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mage lord Tidurion continued his spell. He swallowed hard as he focussed and began to slowly increase the area being struck by the lightning. Trembling slightly from the difficulty of maintaining such a spell, Niaunwe closed his eyes and attempted to drown out the sounds of battle around him. A single bead of sweat formed on his brow, trailing down his face. It was gradually joined by more. More lightning flashed down, striking out at more necromancers.

A cluster of animated dead, fired from the bone launchers, advanced towards the mage lord. The will of their masters commanded them to end the lightning spell.

-----

Mordain looked at the battlefield, at the chaos. It was horrific. And yet, his hate and his power made this scene exactly where he felt most at home. In the midst of bloodshed and battle was where he felt complete, for he had become a creature of combat.

He looked back at Ariakas, however. "It was Mordus."

"Mordus?" Ariakas whispered and turned back, to look at the man further away on the wall. Mordus had been the young orphan, could it all be right? They shared the same mother, and the birth of Mordus had been the death of her? Why? Why was it like this? Ariakas shook his head, he needed to deal with all of this later. When this battle was at an end, he needed to corner Mordain and receive more questions to his answers.

"He wore the sign of Drathmor," Ariakas murmured softly. "And you let him live."

Ariakas's words went unheard by Mordain. His attention now remained on the battle. He focussed on the outer wall. The undead had gained a foot-hold towards the western side.

"Captain, target those undead. Bring them down!" he commanded.

The captain nodded and turned to his bowmen. "Target the undead on the western wall. Keep fire away from our men."

The ranged soldiers did as instructed. They loosed their arrows, taking out a good number of the undead minions.

-----

Shaellana lept over a Nathremal, bringing her sword through its head as she was in the air. When she landed, it was already crumbling to dust.

She moved forward, driving her blades through the chest of another. As it crumbled away, she found Nathaniel Drakkon standing on the other side of it.

"Watch for ladders, Nathaniel. The dead will be raising them soon."

Andros moved across the wall, deadly magic spraying forth from his hands and ruining both weak and powerful foe that opposed him. He moved closed to Nathaniel and Shaellana, aiding them the best he could.

Far away, at another portion of the wall, he could see archers unleashing their arrows against the undead. Those that was hit did not stand again. Andros was stunned by this surprising revelation. Earlier in the wall, weapons like arrows had done nearly no damage to the undead. No, they were falling like mortals. What was happening?

He conjured a fireball and blew a Nathremal away from the crenellations before speaking with a firm voice to Nathaniel, Shaellana and the others around. "The power of Drathmor is failing. We might still prevail. "

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Captain Snes Kvangar ducked under a heavy blow from a skeleton facing him. He then, in a nonchalant move, cut apart the corpse at the waist before stepping over the fallen foe. He could see Ariakas further away, close to Mordain.

"Fizban Dantares," he whispered through clenched teeth. So close.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back in the city, things were naturally calmer. They sat in one of the streets. There were mostly old men here, weak and broken as well as women and children. Many were eyeing Ranorist with suspicion, wondering why the big man did not fight at the walls like the other brave men of Weissland. Ranorist Chrasto wished he had been there, in the thick of combat. He wished he could have aided this people. But Ariakas did not want him by his side, he did not trust him. But he trusted him with Cloudwulfe, so he did not completely disregard Ranorist's abilities at least.

Cloudwulfe looked up from the dirt he had been poking in.

"Drathmor will loose," he whispered calmly.

"How can you know?"

"Because he's afraid," he said.

Ranorist shook his head. Most of the things Cloudwulfe said was complete rubbish. This was amongst it.

"I can sense his fear," Cloudwulfe carried on, mumbling to himself.

Nathaniel ignored the mage lord and addressed only Shaellana "I'll keep an eye out for them, but someone's got to try and do something about those siege towers before they reach the walls." Almost idly he picked up one of the Nathremal's blades and walked over to the crenelations and looked over the wall. He let the sword drop, point down, picking up speed until it skewered a fleshling and cast it from the wall.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mage lord Tidurion continued his spell, the lightning striking down another necromancer in due course. The strain was evident on his face, as he poured with sweat and his muscles tensed with the stress. As more lightning began to arc down from the sky, a tiny drop of blood trickled from his nose. But the elven mage lord was oblivious to all of this, as he was deep in concentration, maintaining the spell.

He could not see the undead making their way towards him, desperate soldiers clashing with them. The mage lord did not notice the fleshlings scaling the wall below him, nor the shadow which passed overhead with leathery wings spread wide, skin of obsidian, and a malevolent grin afixed to its face.

One of the undead threw itself into the mage lord, knocking him to the ground and pulling him from his spell.
