Moarbrek leaned closer. "Loared Morodith has served Drathmor loyally for a thousand years. If you want to make a claim like that, Notrarat, then you best be able to prove it."
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

A Seeker had found James with Rebecca and called him to the battlements. Now he stood up on the wall, staring out at the vast horde that waited to attack Asulien. As many men as could be fit atop the wall were arranged there, waiting for the siege towers and ladders bearing orcs and undead that Drathmor would unleash upon the city. James stood amongst the mn, silent, watching.

Mordain dispatched a Seeker to bring mage lord Amalrith back to him, upon the wall.

"How do you expect me to proove such a thing?" Notrarat spat. "This is nor the place nor the time. There's little I can say that will blank out those thousand years of servitude made by Morodith and his followers to Drathmor. No, instead I have come here. I have not the power to destroy Drathmor and you know that, so instead I come here as a sign that I am not against him, but instead with him."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Amalrith was floating in his chamber, resting in a bubble of magical energy. He was in direct, magical contact with one of the acolytes of mage lord Paulin at Dunane. But still he was aware of his own surroundings, he was no fool and Asulien was far from a safe haven now.

"What?" he spoke without opening his eyes as a Seeker entered the empty chamber.

"Lord Mordain requests your presence."

Amalrith frowned, the undead hordes led by Kazmar'Ach had just begun their attack, moving their troops forward. It was a delicate situation.

"Tell Lord Mordain that I want a reason for me leaving my current duty and it has to be a good one. Unless he comes here himself, I will not leave my position except in the most dire of circumstances."

Moarbrek thought this over. What the lich was saying was true; he was not a threat to the Master. "Very well, Notrarat. Prove your loyalty in this battle. But now, get out of my sight."

-----

The Seeker returned to Mordain. "My Lord, lord Amalrith is in contact with lord Paulin as I speak. He requests a reason to be taken from his duties."

Mordain turned towards the Seeker. "You are dismissed."

The Mage of Shadows did not wait for a responce; he made his way to where Amalrith was. Mordain opened the door quietly and entered the chamber.

"Amalrith, keep the channel you have with Paulin open. Open your mind to me."

--Entering from Ataya--

Kor'Mor'Oka waited in the camp of the Defiled Kingdom. He savoured the air, mixed with despair, isolation, anger, fear, a sprinkling of hope, if even false hope. And perhaps that was most delicious of all he could taste. The vampire played with a scrap of cloth between the talons of his gauntleted hand. A faint smile crept across his lips like some monster stalking across the land. So close, so very close, he thought.

Mordus turned his head slightly from the stretching plains, eyeing Ariakas with a sideways glance. He did not quite know what to make of their chance meeting. It seemed far too odd to be put down to mere chance. Something else was in the wind.

"I must admit I am surprised to see you still alive Realmer. Some time has passed since our departure for the mountains of Kuren, and I can't deny I am curious as to you're disappearance."

Mordus coughed grufly. An annoying dryness overcomming his thoat at the wrong moment.

"It is strange indeed we should meet again on the eve of battle."

Notrarat bowed to the Moarbrek as he slowly withdrew from the other's sight. It was all going well.

-----------------------------------------------

Almirith gasped in the heavy wave of magical power flowing through him as he open his mind and shared the magical channel with Mordain Thaendil. Now he could sense both his own position, the position and mind of mage Tyloth but in addition he could also feel the presence of Mordain. It was heavy and powerful, of a another form than any other mage he had ever had a link with. But somehow it felt masked, like he link between them went only one way. He wondered if this was Mordain's will or something about his magic that happened automatically.

-------------------------------------------------------

Something in the words of Mordus awakened some kind of recognition in the mind of Ariakas. It was words he could have uttered himself. He nodded slowly as he continued to look for Mordain.

"From my experiences," he said. "Everything happens for a reason. I believe in that. Call it my principle."

"Tell me, the both of you; will the dwarves be able to mount an attack against the forces of the Defiled Kingdom in this battle?" asked Mordain, speaking to both Amalrith and Paulin.

All but one of the scout parties returned whole and reported to the nearest Seekers. Morain would be informed shortly.

Nathaniel looked out at the undead army. It was almost infuriating for the enemy to be so damned close and have to wait. The sword glowed, vermillion red, and he could feel it beating inside his skull. The spirit whispered "You're all going to die." Nathaniel's fist tightened, his knuckles white. Like an echo it continued "Why not just lie down and die?" The mage stood still, not moving at all. The spirit did not relent "They will kill you all. You will all just be corpses, in fact you are corpses even now."

Drathmor sat crouched in his camp, marking a ritual circle of his own into the dirt beneath him. With both hands, he held his staff, using the butt to forge the circle. The circle was wide, and its edge was covered in strange markings, markings of runes. It was a difficult task to do what he sought to achieve, and it was something he had not attempted since his siege of Fargon a thousand years ago. He smirked to himself as he recalled the devastation caused upon the elves by the effects of this spell.

"My Lord," began a neromancer, stopping behind Drathmor.

"What is it, servant? Make it quick, for I am busy!" snapped Drathmor without turning, continuing his work.

There was no reply. The necromancer was silent.

"I said, what is-" began Drathmor, turning wrathfully towards the necromancer.

But the Dark Lord stopped and stood, listening. All was silent. Not one noise filled the air. The necromancer stood perfectly still, as if frozen in time. Drathmor looked around to see that a number of his undead minions had surrounded him. They opened their mouths and released a faint howling of maddenning suffering and agony.

Drathmor looked back to the necromancer. Only then did the mortal speak.

"I will see you dead, Drathmor."

Normally, Drathmor would've destroyed the man instantly. But, the necromancer was not speaking as a mortal should. There was something more behind his voice, behind his eyes. The Dark Lord staggered back slightly.

"What... what did you say?"

The necromancer moved nothing but his lips. "I said that I will see you dead. Your time is coming to an end, fool. Finally, your sins will catch you."

Drathmor stared at the necromancer, confusion masking the rage he felt. And then he felt it, and he spoke the name of his enemy. "Krodalis."

"Did you think that you were safe from me? There is nowhere I cannot go, nowhere that you can hide! You were my greatest failure, my greatest disappointment. You could have been part of something great; the only purpose that truly matters, that truly exists! But instead you chose to fuel the abomination that is existence." spoke the necromancer.

Drathmor stepped back again. "I chose to rule, Krodalis!"

The necromancer shook his head. "No. You chose to die. You chose the same fate that awaits all of the miserable creatures you share this world with."

"I will crush the weak! I will bring them to ruin, and break them before me. This world will be mine and I will share it with no one!"

The Dark Lord lunged forward with his staff, striking the necromancer down with powerful magic. The mortal form crumbled away, but Krodalis's presence did not fade. Drathmor turned to see that one of the undead had stepped forward.

"Domination. A pointless pursuit. Nothing lasts. I have seen empires rise and fall, on the backs of their people. Those who pursue dominance are doomed to damnation." spoke the undead, Krodalis now speaking through it.

Drathmor moved towards Krodalis's host. "But... but I am stronger than they are! A thousand years ago, I brought this land to its knees."

"To its knees and no further! You were defeated by a mortal. If the girl had been smarter, she would have ended you completely."

The Dark Lord laughed. "But none of them know how to bring about my destruction. The Castoden boy holds the weapon, but not the knowledge. No one can give him that knowledge! No one knows how to destroy me."

The undead host of Krodalis spoke two words, two words that struck terror into the very core of the Dark Lord: "I do."

Drathmor staggered back. "No... NO!" he shrieked, before lashing out at the undead too and destroying it.

Krodalis's power withdrew from the area, but not before whispering three final words in a ghostly wail.

"All will end."

Drathmor looked around. The world had returned to the way it was; his minions went about their business, no one questioned the remains of the necromancer on the ground or the shattered undead husk.

But Drathmor was quick to act. He rounded on the nearest necromancer. "Assemble the Disciples, and Moarbrek... everyone! The siege begins now!"

((It's not Paulin. It's just a lesser mage that's communicating with Amalrith, his name is Tyloth))

Tyloth answered the voice of Mordain without hesitating. "The attack against Dunane is heavy and is led by at least one of the Dark Disciples. If Asulien are to receive help it will have to be from Daulinen instead because at the moment we have to defend only ourself."

As James looked out over the horizon at the vast army of Drathmor assembled before the walls of Asulien, the army began to move, slowly to be sure, but moving nonetheless. "This is it," he said quietly to himself.

The hordes of the undead moved slowly towards the city, bringing all manner of horrific contraption and creature with them. Shaellana watched, and dispatched a Seeker to Mordain.

The Seeker entered the room with Mordain and Amalrith. "My Lord, the undead have begun their advance."

"Amalrith, speak with Daulinen. Try to arange an attack from the dwarves against Drathmor's command base at the rear of the army." With that said, Mordain broke off the connection and made his way back to the wall.

There, he stood and gazed out at the vast force before him. The people of Weissland stood unified as a single fighting force in the face of this horror, bar a number of refugees who had been kept safe deeper in the city; those unable to fight.

Then, Mordain saw a man he had not expected to see again; Ariakas.
