Mordain turned to them. "Mage lords, you are the best we have in your fields of magic. The soldiers and refugees are working to defend the city in what ways they can; I need you to work to defend the cities in whatever ways you can. Lay magical traps, runes, whatever you can think of, throughout this city. Anything that could hinder the advance of the dead."
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Solo Fryysen turned to the others, "Any protective spell or enchantment against necromantic magic will do. Get to it."

The mage lords spread out and moved into the city, but Andros was left. "What of the walls and main gates Mordain?" he asked.

"What of them, lord Andros?" Mordain replied.

Mage lord Tidurion moved off into the city and began setting up spells at what he thought were the likely areas the undead might travel through if they got into the city. After preparing a few he went to find mage lord Boralays to speak with him.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nathaniel Drakkon walked through the streets of Asulien. These streets were virtually empty. Turning a series of corners to get closer to the building where a room had been found for him, Nathaniel found himself in a courtyard. He slowed down and looked around for a few moments. Then he heard the running footsteps off to one side. Turning his head the mage was surprised to see a young girl running out of one of the streets towards him. The girl ran forwards and stopped beside him. Nathaniel knelt down and frowned, saying “Where did you come from?”

The girl pointed and said matter-of-factly “Over there.”

Nathaniel smiled slightly. Even here, at this time, with everything that was going on, children could still beat adults with the most simple, straight-forward and outstanding logic. He looked at the girl. She had platinum blond hair, which was so familiar. More than that, she had emerald green eyes which made him feel like he was almost looking into a mirror. It was startling. He asked “Where are your parents?”

The girl seemed slightly perturbed by the question but said “I don’t know where my mother is.”

“Hmmm, and what about your father?” Nathaniel asked. The girl shrugged but did not answer. Nathaniel questioned “Well, what’s your name?”

The girl answered “Jane, Jane Sergares.”

Things started to make a lot more sense to Nathaniel. He stood up and said “Well, follow me and we’ll find some of the refugees. They’ll be able to take you further into the city where you’ll be safe ok?”

The girl nodded and said in a disdainful tone “Very well.”

They walked back out into the main streets and Nathaniel grabbed the sleeve of a passing soldier and asked where he could find some of the refugees and explained. The soldier nodded understandingly; clearly these situations were popping up in the city, with everyone all over the place. Nathaniel was directed further up the street where a group of refugees were preparing to be moved into the inner city. He continued until he reached them and said to several of them “I found this young girl wandering in the city. Take her with you and keep an eye on her please.”

One woman said “Of course my lord. I’ll look after her.”

Nathaniel said “Goodbye Jane Sergares. Stay with these people, they will look after you.”

The girl asked “Can’t I go with you?”

Nathaniel smiled but a furrow of worry was still on his brow. Luckily his hood concealed this as he said “I’m sorry, but that’s much too dangerous. You’ll have a much better time with these people anyway.” He turned slightly as if to leave before saying to the woman “Thank you. And I’m not a lord, I’m just a mage.” He walked away towards the room hoping to get some rest.

"Will you see to them, or would you like assistance there as well," Andros asked. He felt Mordain had been little precise in his orders but he also thought Mordain was far powerful enough to see to the gates alone. At least he was assisted by Shaellana and the others of his followers.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Boralays stood up from the cobbled streets where he put in the enchantments. He noticed mage lord Tidurion heading towards him and nodded in a greeting. He felt tired and sweat was running heavily in his face and along his back. In travelling to Asulien he had managed to keep himself occupied so he could push the tragic events in Ataya away from his mind, but after reaching their destination he had no longer been able to keep these things contained. The released emotions had taken a toll on him. He needed rest, before the final battle.

Tidurion nodded to Boralays and said "I wanted to let you know, I've had no luck finding Sergares' daughter but there may still be time before the battle. Also, did you go to the meeting at the eastern spire?"

Andros nodded to this.

"Of course," he said as he left the area.

-----------------------------------------------

Boralays felt a sting in his heart when Tidurion mentioned Sergares' name.

"No," he said with a tired voice. "I did not have the time."

Mordain sighed heavily and leaned against the battlements before him, his face weary beneath his shroud. A hand came to land on gently on his shoulder.

He turned to see Shaellana.

"My Lord, you are tired."

The Mage of Shadows shook his head. "No, not tired, Shaellana. I feel... weak. I don't know if I have the power to do this, to lead these people through the coming battle."

"You do." Shaellana turned and walked away again, repeating in a hushed voice, "You do."

Tidurion nodded "Neither did I. We should ask one of the others and find out what went on." After saying this he turned and held out his hand, speaking words to cast another spell. He said "Another trap for the enemy. Do you think they will breach the city?"

Ariakas and Bana entered the inn where Justin and Ranorist waited. Both Mjolnir Warriors rose immediately when their commander walked through the door, in the white robes used by the servants of the Sanctuary in Asulien. It was a peculiar sight, watching Ariakas without a hair on his body in those pure clothes, but his old authority had returned and there was a burning, mental power behind his eyes once more.

The inn were filled with people and many threw a glance at the somehow weird face of Ariakas. But when his cold gaze met them they quickly turned away.

He walked through the crowd and sat down at the table, Bana sitting down to his left. Slowly Ranorist pushed a cup of tea towards him. Ariakas lifted the cup and smelled it, he had not eaten anything but dry bread and water since he left Ataya to head towards Kuren. With a satisfying sight he tasted the sweet liquid.

Then he put it down on the surface of the rough table again, looked to the others and simply nodded. "I have a tale to tell you know, a tale like no other," he said. "But it will have to wait. First we have to endure hell."

((This is taking ages :P Does anyone have anything important to RP, or can we jump forward a bit? So that the final battle is closer.))

((Wait and see what Gorfang and Ariakas have to say, then we can go ahead. Or not, depending on what's said :P))

((I'd also be fine with moving ahead. I've got nothing else to do and the only thing I've got going here is a small conversation with Ariakas which he pretty much just ignored in his most recent post. Move ahead I say.))

((Something with my connection is wrong so I can only post short posts while I'm at boarding school. Unless I'm allowed to doublepost I can't fit everything into my posts))

Boralays only nodded to the suggestion made by Tidurion. He looked around to make sure that no civilians or refugees were close when he answered, "In time they will."

Cloudwulfe had fled like a crazed animal through the dark halls of the Sanctuary. He had evaded the guards of the place and eventually reached the lower dungeons where the altars, tombs and holy places where. There he sat down with his back towards an dusty altar of a forgotten god, breathing heavily. He searched in his mind, the voices were resting once more.

"It is gone," he whispered in the empty darkness. "Death is gone now."

((Ok, that sucks, but not much you can do about it.))

Tidurion said "Yes, I suppose there's no stopping them getting in. I'm... going to go a few streets over that way" He pointed right "and see what I can do." Without waiting the elven mage lord walked away into a side street and out of sight.

((I admire your "Evacuation from poor conversations"-skill, I think we can move this forward now.))

Shortly after Ariakas and Bana had entered the inn, Bana and Justin walked together through the streets back to the sanctuary. They were going to get Cloudwulf out. Hopefully it would not prove to difficult.

((Very well.))

The night had passed. Work had been done, to a level Mordain could not have hoped for. But now it was the early hours of the morning, the sun slowly creeping its way over the horizon and into the world. But the sky was dark, filled with clouds which promised a heavy snowfall.

Soldiers and labourers alike had been sent to rest some hours ago, their work complete. They would need their sleep if they were to fight the forces of the Dark Lord. And yet, Mordain was stricken with fears and doubts. The force that approached would wash through the city, crushing all that opposed. He had all-but lost his faith in their survival, but the single strand he had left forced him to show nought but courage in the face of this enemy. He had to give the soldiers an example to follow.

And then he felt the darkness sinking in...

-----

--Enters from Fargon--

On the edge of the horizon, a shadow creapt forth over the land. This, the home of the Order of Light, was a land of the pure no more. Now, the hungry dead walked over its 'sacred' ground. Onward and onward the dead marched, directed by their cruel masters. No fear, no rest, no mercy. They had travelled far, and long anticipated the slaughter waiting to be wrought upon the mortal world. Now, their day had finally arrived.

From atop his podium, Drathmor watched the city of Asulien come into sight. Its walls were mighty, and the hearts of its defenders were strong; but both would break. Both would crumble before his power. Too long had he been lost to darkness, too long had he waited in limbo. The living would finally be made to see the power of the dead.

((I suggest you all get your shit together :P It's go time!))

Elandir slept very little that night, spending most of the time with the Order of the Light, barricading corridors and, with the help of one of Ulrin's mages and using Renaulin's advice on countering dark elf magic, placing wards over every possible surface. It seemed there was no way Cyrredlues could sneak in again.

Zach Amakiir found him in the middle of the night and informed him of Drathmor's advance, saying his forces would reach the walls late afternoon at the earliest, evening if they were lucky.
