Mordain stroked his chin. "Ah, I do recall it now. You came to me, and I helped you with your problem, but at that time you yourself described yourself as a 'wayward servant of Weissland'. You left here on a path of revenge, and revenge has a way of delivering one to the hands of malevolence. But regardless of what you claim you did in your travels, is there anyone here who can vouch for you? Is there anyone here who can validate your claims about your journey?" He leaned forward on his chair. "And no, I'm afraid it is not as simple as having the mage lords examine you. Those cuffs negate your ability, and the ability of others to interact with you through magic. As far as magic is concerned, you no longer exist. Your bond to the magic realm is severed as long as you are bound by those shackles." The Mage of Shadows looked around the room. "Now, is there anyone here who can, or will, vouch for Nathaniel? Is there anyone who can prove that his expedition did not lead him to dark paths?" |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Nathaniel replied "No, there is nobody who can vouch for my journey, not in Weissland anyway. That would be the point of a self-imposed exile. And you say revenge, but you are wrong. Revenge is a hot-headed, ill-conceived reaction. It was vengeance. Seventeen years of preparation and training. I tracked down the murderer and struck them down. Not just for my brother, not just for my family, but also for the families of all those other magic-users, both trained and untrained, that the killer had preyed upon." |

There was a murmur among the spectators behind Nathaniel in the grand hall. Loter did not converse with anyone else around him, but he was absolutly certain that the people in the hall had Nathaniel Drakkon in their favour now. |

James leaned forward once again and breathed in deeply. He had already expressed his opinion of Nathaniel's innocence, but so far none of the other judges had said anything, and in any case Mordain had the final say. |

((If any character witnesses are going to speak up, now would be the best time.)) Nathaniel waited to hear a response. He was especially curious about why so few of the other judges had even said a word. Surely they had questions? If the roles had been reversed he would have had plenty to ask. |

((Jaunne, Castoden, Mordus and Mordain are the judges right? And I thought Mordain were referring to the judges, so other people can't involve themself? I do not understand how this court works)) |

((Well you seemed to understand it fine in the topic about the courts. Mordain, Shaellana, Aldron, Jaunne and Castoden are the judges. And no, Mordain has asked twice for witnesses, not judges.)) |

((Sorry then. I thought I did not have to really get it properly, since I did not think I would be involved directly. But there was no witnesses, and if there were they should have decided before court. Or is it so that anyone can just stand up and claim to be a witness in the middle of the court?)) |

((There are no witnesses to a crime, that is true. But Mordain is looking for people to attest to Nathaniel's character, virtues and so on. And yes, anyone can stand up, it couldn't be decided before the trial because there was no investigation or defence and prosecution to find witnesses.)) |

((Thank you for making things clear)) Loter frowned as silence filled the room slowly as Mordain finished speaking. He knew he could speak up for Nathaniel, but there was nothing he could say that would prove his innocense. Only Loter's good faith and gut feeling, which it helped little that he trusted with his own life. But there was more to this grey-bearded man. There was a few details he had left out in this court. Why neither Mordain, nor Nathaniel, mentioned his position as a Seeker, Loter did not understand. But then again, there was no proof that Nathaniel had done any crimes at all. Signs in the sand pointing towards him. The birds knew that even among the judges there were dark sheeps. Loter did not trust Shaellana or Mordus at all, but they were under the service of Mordain Thaendil so no one ever looked at them. But Nathaniel Drakkon was a Seeker as well. A "Honourary Seeker" he had said, what could that mean? Finally Loter Arthious stood up, cleared his voice and spoke. "May I speak, lord judges?" |

Mordain's head turned slowly towards Loter. "By all means, Lord Arthious." said the mage, making a sweeping gesture to offer him the floor. |

Loter Arthious slowly moved through a row leading through the seats filled with the spectators. He passed Nathaniel Drakkon without looking at the man and stopped in front of the judges. "I believe there are still more details that this court ought to know," he said. |

"I first met Nathaniel Drakkon when the forces of the Great Necromancer made their last assault against the Great Wall and broke through the defenses. We did not speak much about his time as a prisoner among the enemy, but he did mention his position as a Honourary Seeker. Is this not rather important? Who have the power, except you or Shaellana, to give anyone such a position? Unless he lied to me back then." |

"An Honourary Seeker may use an amount of a Seeker's authority, and is permitted to carry the Seeker's seal. It is not until they are fully inducted into the order that they gain the full rights of a Seeker." said Shaellana. Odly, it was the first thing she had said throughout the whole trial. Mordain nodded when Shaellana had finished, to confirm what she had said. "I placed that rank on Nathaniel at the time because I thought it was the right thing to do. I trusted him. However," he scowled at the man, "it would seem that such trust could well have been misplaced." |
