Nathaniel Drakkon did not look up. He said "Very well, might as well get it over with."

Shaellana moved closer. "Is there nothing I can say to convince you to part with your secret? You could die today, if you are unable to convince Mordain of your innocence."
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Nathaniel sighed "I'm sorry, I really am. But this is more important than me. If this is my time to die then this is it. I am set on my path."

The High Seeker sighed. "Then that is your choice, and your fate. Make sure, Drakkon, that the two are one in the same." She turned and moved towards the door. "I will return for you when the trial is to begin."

She left the room and left the dungeon, the cell door being closed behind her.

((The only thing that you (and Lathaon) most likely knows is that Tarain Pathfinder, who worked as a spy and you keep prisoner, said he sold his information to a man known as Fizban Dantares when Lathaon interogated him. But your character might have forgotten))

Vedgar stepped. He remembered the name from conversations he had had with Drairan and Ithrain, though he wanted to investigate this on his own without Mordain or the others. "I may help you Medran," the mage lord said. "Is this man injured?"

"Not physically, I don't think, though I can't say he looks well," Medran said. "He appears to have lost memory of all but his name, and I was hoping a mage could restore it. This is beyond anything the healers are capable of..."

Without saying anything, young officer Snes Kvangar retreated from the conversation on the stairs between Medran and Vedgar and began moving back to to the Eastern Spire.

"How did you find him?" Vedgar asked quickly.

Mordain approached Jaunne, still within the spire. "Commander; as my Seekers may have told you by now, I seek to hold a trial for a man held prisoner by my soldiers. Can you show me where this trial could take place?"

(Oh... Mordain was always inside the Spire. I thought Medran approached him outside.))

Snes Kvangar returned to the Spire and found the last two mages in the room, Solo Fryysen and Andros Kalmann in deep conversation at the table. The two mage lords quickly stopped their conversation as Snes Kvangar came towards them.

Snes shot a glance towards Mordain and Jaunne before speaking to the two mage lords. "Medran of the Order of Light reported that he has a man named Fizban Dantares in his possession."

Solo and Andros rose simultanously from their chairs. "Dantares?" Solo asked, unsure if he had heard right.

Nathaniel Drakkon stood up and stretched. He yawned slightly. The mage walked over to the other side of his cell. Not a great distance, he thought sarcastically. He continued to walk back and forth for a few minutes, getting the blood flowing again. He needed to be fully alert now, and would likely need to stand for the entire trial.

((Ok, I've got my internet working again. Sorry for the half-assed posting.
I've been trying to "get my shit together" as they say. I hope you guys understand.))

Mordus paced at a battlement not far from where the meeting had taken place. The air was cold this high up, not to mention how far north they were. It cut a small swathe through his muddled thoughts, disrupting what was already an incoherent stream.

Perhaps he should help with the defences. No, he'd just get in the way. Marshal the refugees? Ha! What simple folk would take instructions abidingly from him. No, not after he'd condemned so many to die on The Great Wall.
He stopped abrubptly in his moving to and fro. Noticing a shudder in his left arm.
He gripped it and continued, intent on venting whatever instability had come over him.

No...no...he shook his head irritably. Not now.

Perhaps Drakkon was right. He was a sick minded tool. Nothing more than a glorified puppet.

"NRRRAAAHHHHHHHHHGH!" He screamed into the wind as he drove a fist into the rock of the wall, denting it with magical force.
His breath heaved.
He leaned his head gradualy onto the wall and sunk to his knees, whispering to himself.

"It was gone, the voice, it is no more!"

"Yes." He said clearly to himself. "I am my own." But a shiver ran down his spine with those very words, and another clear voice resounded in his head.

"You are mine."

A high pitched whirring sound started off somewhere in the distance and continued to build, getting closer with each passing second.
It only just cut above the sound of the wind at first but grew in clarity as he listened to it.

Mordus turned his head quickly right and left - gaguing where the noise came from as he stood up. Unsupported by the wall.

A shimmer of steel hurtled past him from the grey sky, and impacted with a cloud of dust and flying chips of stone.
He only just managed to shield his eyes with his arms as he was pelted with a cloud of debris.

He coughed as the dust cleared, revealing the grinning skull pommel of the sword he had left in the desolace of the Defiled Kingdom.
What should he think?
Approaching it with a mixture of wonder and wearyness he could not help but ponder the implications.

Something wanted him to have it, even though he wished it gone and forgotten.

Something wanted him to kill.

He gripped the handle, and with a disturbingly satisfying screech of metal upon stone he pulled if free.

Oh well. He thought. What more could he lose by throwing caution to the wind?
Glory is fleeting, but obscurity lasts for eternity.

"Lying unconscious on an altar," Medran said. "If you are willing to help, then I will take you to him."

----

"There is a small keep at the southern edge of the sanctuary. The hall there is what functions as a court here in Asulien," Jaunne said. "Come, I will show you there now."

----

Elandir coughed. The fire did not extend itself further, but the smoke was filling the room. The spellbook was mostly useless it seemed, as Lathaon had Naxtiaa and was too confident with fire magic to let it concern him, and had not bothered to include the more common spells which might put out the fire. He looked hurriedly through the other things he had salvaged, not knowing what most of them were. He selected a vial of icy blue liquid, removed the stopper and threw the contents on the fire.

For a moment, nothing happened, but then something blue moved within the flames. A small bird returned to him, seemingly unaffected by the heat.

Elandir coughed again. "Get help," he tried, and the bird rose up through the ceiling.

----

Kalon and the others left the same way he had come, over the wall, heading up into the mountains to the north.

Vedgar nodded with a smile. "Please, take me to him. If I can help him I will do so while we still have time." He followed Medran of the Order of Light down the stairs, into the city and towards the Sanctuary.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bana looked out from the shadows of the corner. The guards had passed without noticing the young warrior of Mjolnir or Cloudwulfe hiding in the darkness.

"It's clear," he whispered to Cloudwulfe. "We should move on."

"We must hurry. Death is on the move now."

Bana looked worried at Cloudwulfe. He hoped the older, rough-looking man managed to keep his sanity for a little longer.

--------------------------------------------------

Snes Kvangar nodded as a response to Solo Fryysen's question though the young officer was looking at mage lord Andros Kalmann. "That was the name alright," he said.

"But that was also the name that Tarain Pathfinder gave to Lathaon Thaendil," Solo said. Lathaon had mentioned the arrestation and questioning of Tarain Pathfinder to Solo Fryysen shortly after the last Council meeting before the White War. "Did Mordain hear?"

"Yes," Kvangar nodded. "But he made no sign as to recognizing it."

Andros Kalmann looked across the room where Mordain was talking to Jaunne. The grey-bearded mage lord bit his lip and frowned, in deep thought.

Mordain nodded, walking with Jaunne towards the door. He noticed, however, the frown of mage lord Andros. He stopped.

"Tell me, mage lord, is something the matter?" he asked, his voice edgy.

-----

Brae covered his mouth with his sleeve, coughing harshly. He stared into the flames, but Elandir was the only one with any hope of purging the fire; Brae could do nothing.

Andros did not answer, but Solo Fryysen moved quickly across the floor. "You heard about this man," he inquired. "Fizban Dantares?"

Andros stepped forward, ashamed that he had been lost in his own thoughts for a brief moment. "Lord Fryysen," he said, looking at the mage lord of Asulien. "I believe Lord Mordain have other things on his agenda that are of more concern that this petty problem. The trial of Nathaniel Drakkon is at hand, meanwhile others should investiage this. We should not judge what should be Lord Mordain's priority."

He turned back to Mordain. "Fizban Dantares," he explained. "Was the name Tarain Pathfinder gave to Lathaon Thaendil during his questioning. If you do not rememeber, or if Lathaon never told you, Tarain Pathfinder was the one involved in the treachery of Toulac Axehand."

"Yes, I do indeed. Whatever this matter is, I trust that you mage lords can resolve it alone."

With that said, he and Jaunne left the room and made their way towards the court Jaunne had spoken of.

Solo Fryssen bowed his head to Mordain as the elf left. When the silver-haired elf looked up again he was met with the cold gaze of Andros.

"Could you please go and tell Amalrith that I will be late?" Solo asked.

"Excuse me?" the grey-bearded mage lord responded.

"As a Council mage I think I will see to this and apperently Vedgar is already on this. There's no need to waste more people on this. When you have seen to Amalrith, could you maybe attend the trial of Nathaniel Drakkon. I don't think there are any mage lords attending it."

Solo Fryysen turned sharply around and walked out of the meeting room. Andros realized that also Officer Snes Kvangar had left, he was alone in the Eastern Spire. The veteran mage lord sighed as he looked at the map of the city. He frowned as he thought about Solo Fryysen. Something was not right.
