"Pits, traps; everything would help. The General is right; any undead that falls in a pit is one that will not reach the walls." agreed Mordain. "As for the dwarves, send for the aid if you wish, but I feel it would be a wasted effort." ----- Korth smashed the deadly sword aside and lunged at Kalon, assuming bear form as he did so. He landed on the elf and the sword spun away. Korth held Kalon's arms with his mighty limbs, roaring ferociously. ((Did that collapse of rubble separate Brae and co from the elves that took Arhaina?)) |

Amalrith sighed. He felt his point was not listened to, or worse ignored outright. He sat back in his chair as he rubbed his chin. Very well, he would use this to his own cause. |

"Even if we did send for aid, however," said James, "the Dwarves could never reach here before the siege started, and could not bring enough troops to lift the siege; outside on the open battlefield they would be slaughtered. We would be calling them to their deaths." |

Mordain moved forward, gesturing towards James as he looked at Amalrith. "You see, mage lord? The Lord Castoden knows of what I speak! The dwarves, whether or under seige or not, will be very soon. And, besides that, there is what James is saying; if we called them here, then they would be slaughtered by the undead before reaching the safety of the city. They would be of use as nothing but a tiny meat shield against the hordes of darkness!" |

"It's another card given to us, Mordain," Amalrith said with firm voice. "Another ace in our sleeve. Do not forget the tunnels or the mountain passes. Daulinen will, as I said and as my point was, pull parts of the force of Drathmor away from us. And if the battle goes well for us and we do have a chance of bringing the fight to Drathmor, the fact that the dwarfs are not far away may help us. It is another option Mordain. Another factor that will help our cause." |

"First of all, we should uphold contact with them," Amalrith said. "We may earn much on simple knowing whether their fight against the undead goes well or bad. Later, if not all the dark prohpecies of late goes true it may be a well-placed attack from the dwarves may be another stone to tip the scale to our advantage. I am no military expert Mordain, but I say Daulinen and Asulien is close enough to affect each others outcome." |

"There is no need for a letter," Amalrith informed, ashamed he had forgotten to bring this to this assembled council earlier. "Ever since the magical blocking of our army disappeared I have been in contact with mage lord Paulin at the court of Lord Eben. I will open a magic canal when this meeting ends. Whatever message you, or anyone else taking military command, wants delivered, they will receive shortly in Daulinen." |

Mordain nodded. "Very good." Then, he took a step back, addressing the whole room. "Now, we have yet to decide how we are going to arrange our soldiers during the battle. For this, I open the floor. Please, present your suggestions." |

General Bayel cleared his throat and said "I will not attempt to give an overarching deployment for the army, not while greater military leaders such as Lord Aldron are present. But for my own infantry, those of them who have survived the long trek from Ataya, I want them to be deployed on the outer wall. We suffered losses at Ataya, and I think my men would like to repay that debt." |

"I think we should station our best and most resilent troops at the gatehouse," Jaunne said. "When they bring rams or undead constructs to the gates, we will need a good deal of time to withdraw any remaining troops from the outer walls to the next line of defence, and in such a small point they can concentrate their efforts and give us that time. For this, I would recommend either the Royal Guards, or failing that a block of other troops with enough skill and armour to become an obstacle to the enemy forces." --- Kalon grinned. "Can you feel it?" he asked. "Can you feel the magic running through my veins?" Then kicked the bear in the stomach, the pointed end of his armoured boot penetrating the druid's fur and hide. --- ((Yes, they are now blocked off, though it might be possible for them to follow the tunnel and find their way back a different way.)) The four ran along the tunnel in pursuit, and it opened out into another large room similar to the one in which Korth and Kalon now fought. This one was filled with old books, which at first looked harmless, but many of the titles suggested a common subject - the forbidden lore. When the dark elves reappeared, they had Arhaina tied, stripped of her armour, her weapon and even her clothes. There was a blade at her throat and two crossbows pointed at her back. "Not another step, or the girl dies," one of the dark elves said. |

Brae looked desperately at the wall of rock before him. He turned to the Legion soldiers. "Back, back! We'll look for another way round." ----- Korth showed no pain. He morphed back into his elven form and picked up his weapon as Kalon took back his. Again and again, the druid lunged towards the dark elf, slashing against his defences. "Your mind?" Korth laughed. "Your maddness, more like!" |

James leaned forward and said, "I'd like my original battalions to be some of the troops in the forefront, right behind the gate. They are among the most seasoned troops we have, and I will be there among them. There's about five thousand of them, with a thousand archers to provide support." Aldron nodded to James and said, "I agree with the Lord Castoden; his men performed exemplarily in my presence. I go further to suggest that the entire force that fought in the Pass of Kuren be stationed behind the gate; they have experience fighting the undead in narrow spaces and can use that to their advantage. All the survivors from the Great Wall and Ataya should be placed on the wall, where their experience will suit them best." |

Loter frowned. He was uncertain about some of those men who had fought in the Pass of Kuren. Certainly, they now had the experience and the knowledge of knowing what they faced, but that was not only a good thing. Knowing the terror of the enemy was far from a blessing before going into battle, and not every man who had fought beside Loter in the Pass of Kuren had held his ground. In the chaotic frenzy, many of those who had survived had been among those wise enough to flee. But Loter did not say anything, instead looking around the room. The mage lords left in the room seemed deep in thought. Vedgar had his eyes close, while Amalrith stroke his cheek, looking at the map. Loter noticed sweat running down the brow of Vedgar. Andros was fingering with a neclace before speaking up. "If the men who fought in the White Realm and the Pass of Kuren are to hold that ground I say support them with the Legion. The Order of the Light should instead hold critical positions along the walls, as well as within the city." |

"A full force of thirty five thousand to hold the gatehouse? Would that truly be necessary? My Legion, supported with the Royal Guards, would make a powerful blockade against the undead, and they are the best troops we have. We could support them with a number of the soldiers from the Pass, but surely a good number of them would be better served along the walls and reinforcing critical locations." argued Mordain. "What of the Az'Gor? They would hold the gatehouse easily." suggested Shaellana. The Mage of Shadows nodded. "True. With the Az'Gor, the Legion and the Royal Guards, the gatehouse would hold for a very long time." |

Andros nodded. He obviously discarded his own idea for Mordain's solution. He had forgotten to take into account the number of soldiers that Castoden was referring to. |
