Jarroth remembered what the necromancer said and responded "What his name is does not matter, his taint is obvious so he will die as is the law in Weissland. He is from the Defiled Kingdom, clearly one of Drathmor's more powerful mortal underlings. He is working for himself now, and there were other necromancers here under his command. Like in other parts of Weissland he is one of the survivors who is trying to carve out an empire of his own in our homeland."

"If a loyal servant of Weissland is threatened, I will aid him to my dying breath, with every drop of my blood. There are older and more powerful things in the world that have faced me and underestimated my resolve, to their end." - Nathaniel Drakkon

James nodded thoughtfully. "It seems he was very powerful. Do you think he was one of the stronger ones that survived?"

"Yes," Boralays said "and I hope he was the strongest. With the ranks of the mage lords and the mages so thinned by the war, dealing with others more powerful than him might be beyond us. Especially with most of the others in Asulien dealing with rebuilding efforts."

"I agree," said James. "And the Weissland Army cannot continue to fight each one of these Necromancers wherever they appear. I feel like we have not seen the last of this one, however."

Boralays said "Most assuredly we have not, he said something about he 'need not call the Defiled Kingdom home ever again', and 'every nation has to start somewhere, and if it is not here that my land will begin, then where?'" Pausing to clear his throat the old mage finished "Those are not the words of someone who will give up before they die."

"We need to keep on the lookout for this particular Necromancer," said James.

Boralays agreed "Yes my liege."

James looked around at the city; for the most part, it was still intact, although he wondered if people would want to live here after the events that had transpired. Nevertheless, it was still a part of Weissland that men had bled to defend, and it had been worth it.

As James was thinking, Lord Aldron rode up. "My Liege," said Aldron, dismounting at James's side. "It is good to see you and your men here."

"And you, Lord Aldron," said James with a nod. "I trust the pursuit was successful."

"The last of the Orcs were slain or driven into the sea," said Aldron. "Aelendak is ours once more."

"Good work, gentlemen," said James. "How were your casualties, Lord Aldron?"

Aldron sighed. "A little heavier than I would have liked, about three thousand killed and wounded all told, according to my Captains."

James nodded. "This army does not have the strength to garrison both Aelendak and Ataya, as well as any other cities that may come under attack," he said. "I fear that at some point, we may have to leave the Necromancers to their devices until Darnil can train a sufficiently large force to push them all back to the Defiled Kingdom. I will, however, detach part of the Northern Army and send it here; it is obvious that the troops are more needed in the South than the North."

Mistrandar, Boralays and the other mages set themselves to work healing the wounded as best they could. After the magic they had used during the battle they could not work as rapidly as dedicated healers but everything helped.

Boralays finished healing the shoulder wound of one soldier and then took a step back. Wiping his brow he thought about his clash with the necromancer, and wondered what would happen next.

"Tell the captains to get the men into camp for the evening; lodge them in the houses and taverns here, they deserve a good bed," said James.

"Aye, My Liege," said Aldron.

"My men and I will return to Asulien soon," said James. "There are matters there that still need my attention unfortunately. I trust that you will send word if you encounter any more necromancers."

"Of course, my Liege," said Aldron.

"Good work today, Lord Aldron," said James. "Good luck." Walking away, James sought out Boralays and found him amongst the other mages healing his troops. "Lord Boralays," he said. "I must return to Asulien; there are things that still require my attention there. Will you send word if you encounter this same Necromancer again?"

Boralays answered "Yes my Liege. I will send a spell sphere to you in Asulien if and when we do."

"Thank you, Lord Boralays," said James. "And good work on the battlefield tonight." With that, James walked over to where Kassal and the other 19 Royal Guard were waiting for him. All had made it through alive, though several had nicks and cuts, but nothing too serious, a testament to their martial prowess. "Are the men ready to move, Captain?" asked James.

"Yes, my Liege," said Kassal.

"Good, we had best be on our way," said James. He and the Royal Guard began their short trek back to the landing craft, where they would board the Royal Navy ships and return north.

After the King had left Boralays returned to healing the wounded soldiers. The King, Boralays thought, I never imagined there would ever be a King again. It was clear to the old mage lord that things were in a period of transition, for good or bad he could not say yet.

Mage lord Boralays sat behind the desk in his room, reading a book. Lord Aldron had been gracious enough to grant the mages use of a building while the city was set to rights. The fighting was long over, the corpses disposed of, and clean up had begun, but it was a long thing. The city was garrisoned, although the bulk of the army had returned to Ataya with Lord Aldron, leaving Boralays and a Captain of the Army here.

Mistrandar had gone to Ataya as well, but the rest of the mages had remained to do what they could. It would likely be decades before the city was anywhere near repopulated.

A small, glittering spell sphere came into the room and moved, with obvious purpose, towards Boralays. It sat in front of the Mage Lord for a time before speaking, as if curiously examining him.

"Mage Lord. I bring you a message from my Master, Lord Daemmion. The Master wishes to meet with you." The words were said through gritted teeth, yet whether or not the Mage Lord would pick up on that remained to be seen.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

One of the Last Guardians. Suck it.

Boralays wrinkled his nose in disgust and said "I sense your taint necromancer, why does your master dare contact me?"

"The Master wishes to discuss diplomacy with you, Mage Lord. He asks that you come alone. He will do the same."

Boralays was suspicious, but despite himself he said "Where and when?"

"Between Aelendak and Odelen, on the open fields, stands a lone tree. You will find it directly south of your city. The Master will be waiting for you there at midday."

Through gritted teeth Boralays said "Fine. Now, begone."
