Grattig snarled as the blade struck his stomach. Though his armour took most of the punishment, he still suffered a decent cut. His thick blood seeped slowly, but there was no time to worry about that.

"Die, maggot!" howled the orc captain, throwing himself forward.

He brought his weapon down upon his foe, and as the Weisslander parried the axe away to one side, Grattig barrelled into him, knocking him down onto the ground. He raised his axe and swung it down, dropping the blade with great force towards the man's head.

((No problem. Needed something to do with this character and you seemed like you could use something a bit more interesting than RP'ing by your lonesome.))

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

James rolled out of the way and up, getting into a kneeling position and slashing away at the Orc's leg, cutting through the armor and deep into the tendons and muscles of its ankle before getting all the way up and preparing to fight again.

((Going to wait for Gorfang now. At this rate, you will have killed the orc before he posts again and then we'll be right back to you having nothing to post about whilst our magic battle goes on :P ))

Boralays grunted as he knocked down by the attack, hitting the ground and rolling over his back. He came up to one knee and lashed out with his sword, hacking the leg from a nearby orc. Standing once more, the mage lord held his staff in front of him and spoke the words to a spell. From the tip of the staff a jet of water burst forth and hurtled towards the necromancer.

Daemmion knocked the water aside, but it fell beneath him and he slipped upon it. The mage was quick upon him with his sword bearing down. Daemmion rolled over and pulled his sword across him, managing to block the attack.

"You... will not take my new land from me!" he hissed.

-----

Grattig roared and surged forward. The pain from his ankle sent him spiralling into a bloodlust, the agony driving his fury more than hindering his preformance. He made a mighty horizontal swing with his weapon. As the Weisslander raised his sword to block, the axe struck against it with such force that it was forced down to the side. Then he brought the butt of his weapon back across and struck his foe hard in the side of his jaw, causing him to recoil down towards his left side. Grattig took this moment of weakness and swung his weapon for his opponent's side.

Boralays brought his sword down again, this time the weapons clashed and both men pushed against each other, trying to force their way through their opponent's guard. Bringing his staff around he attempted to smash the head of the weapon into the necromancer's side while his sword was occupied. He replied "Weissland does not belong to you filth!"

Daemmion crumbled to dust once more and reappeared some feet away. He slammed the butt of his staff into the ground and spoke spell words. Corpses nearby moved with great speed, never standing but more crawling, towards the mage and grabbed hold of his limbs. They pulled him down and held him as more and more moved to grapple with him.

"I desire only to be free of the evils of the Defiled Kingdom! The undead are a means to an end, nothing more!" He took steps forward. "You and your people lost this land to us. If one thing can be salvaged from the Dark Lord's mistakes, then it is that I need not call the Defiled Kingdom home ever again. I will not go back. You will not force me back into the darkness!"

He lashed out once more, a mix of anger and desperation washing over him. His hand came up and an orb of green magic formed, sparkling with power. With great strain he began to close his palm; the mage riled in agony as the hand of death itself tried to lay it's grip upon his heart.

Boralays fought through the pain and slashed, hacking a limb from one corpse, and used the magical enchantment of his staff to smash the skull of another body, leaving it useless. He dragged himself free and despite the pain rushed forward, smashing the necromancer down to the ground with his charge.

Then Boralays spoke the words to an old and powerful spell. As he completed it the air around the two combatants seemed to become heavy, as if the properties of it had changed. The incantation was a ward, used to prevent people teleporting within an area, often used to protect something valuable. It was an odd use, Boralays knew, but now the necromancer would be unable to perform his little trick of hide and seek. Now the necromancer was trapped within the orb of the spell, trapped with Boralays.

He raised his sword again, and readied his staff.

James stumbled a bit as the butt of the axe struck him in the visor of his helmet, and he saw the Orc swing his mighty axe around horizontally. Knowing he would not be able to block the mighty swing of the bloodthirsty Orc, James instead dove towards the incoming axe, narrowly getting underneath it and rolling before coming back up into a standing position as the Orc stumbled from his missed swing. James began a series of quick attacks, knowing that the heavy axe was not an agile enough weapon to block them all for long.

Daemmion picked himself up and glared at the mage. Feeling the magic floating around the air, he knew his teleportation would no longer work. The spell would need to be dealt with but he didn't have the time for that now. The necromancer swung his blade in a wide arc, causing the mage to raise his weapon to block. Daemmion struck out with his staff at the same time. As the mage blocked with his staff too, it left the two in another deadlock pushing against eachother. Steel, wood and magic raged as the two fought for the upper hand.

-----

Grattig kept his axe up and blocked as best he could. Finally, the Weisslander's blade snuck through and hit him on his shoulder. The orc recoiled, but was quick with another powerful strike that left the Weisslander dazed for a moment.

Boralays strained against his opponent, knowing that sooner or later one of them would lose this test of strength. For the time being he could think of no clever ways out so relied on his strength as best he could.

Daemmion continued to push against his opponent. Then, when it seemed he was going to buckle, he shoved with all the strength he could muster, causing the mage to stagger back. Daemmion slammed down his staff and propelled his enemy backwards. Using that time, he invoked a powerful dispelling magic to clear the air of that annoying spell that kept him from teleporting. He raised his staff to strike a finishing blow, but saw how his forces were all but slain around him.

"I trust we will meet again. My desire for freedom and your dedication to decaying laws forces the hand of fate to ensure that we will be in battle again before this is done. Every nation has to start somewhere, and if it is not here that my land will begin, then where?"

With that, the old necromancer vanished completely.

Boralays stood up slowly and picked up his sword, sheathing it for the time being. He gripped his staff and looked at the space the necromancer had previously occupied and said to himself "Freedom is often a desire held in the hearts of men who can no longer see how to obtain it. We lucky few who have it are ever forced to defend it from those who seek only to conquer and control, never realising that that which they proclaim as their freedom is just a prison where they cannot perceive the bars."

James was staggered for a moment, but quickly recovered into a defensive stance. The Orc was now in a fury of a bloodlust and came at him angrily, swinging mightily with his axe. James backed up, parrying and deflecting the blows down. Then, as the Orc captain raised his axe over his head for a mighty downward strike, James stepped forward, swinging his own blade upwards. It sliced through sinew and bone, separating the Orc's right arm at the elbow and causing him to howl in pain, but the howl was ended a moment later as James turned around and brought his sword with him, taking off the Orc's head in a swift stroke. The Orc's body continued forward from the momentum, stumbling into the mud and lying there as its head fell to the ground.

Breathing heavily, James saw now that the battle around him was essentially over. There were still a few more Orcs and undead fighting, but they were quickly being eradicated by the Weisslanders, and in a few moments the battle would be over. Seeing Boralays, James walked towards him. "Well met, Lord Boralays," said James.

Boralays turned to the King and bowed stiffly, the after-effects of his bitter duel taking their toll on his old body. He said "And to you my liege. Unfortunately the leading necromancer's escape has dampened my spirits some, but it does my heart good to see you and your men here."

He remarked "The men Lord Aldron saw fit to entrust to my command for this flanking move preformed very admirably in hammering the orc scum, but with your intervention they've almost been annihilated. I only hope the main assault is going the same way."

As if on cue, a courier arrived at their side. "My liege, Lord Aldron wishes to inform you that the undead have crumbled and the Orcs are fleeing to the sea. He is in pursuit to finish them off," said the courier.

"Thank you," said James. "Inform him that Lord Boralays and my men have defeated the force here." The courier nodded and leapt back on his horse. Turning back to Boralays, James said, "I am glad that the mages arrived when they did. From what I have seen here today, this battle may have gone far differently without your presence."

Boralays nodded "Yes, without our magic things would have gone differently, but magic is not required to defeat necromancers. Like all magic-users they can be defeated by Weissland courage and steel."

"We came upon the Necromancer's camp within the city while we were advancing," said James. He turned and waved forward to some men, who brought up a sack. "I believe these books belong to you and the mages."

Boralays looked over some of the tomes and volumes, he nodded "Yes, these are from the Mystic Tower of Ataya. Well, we can have the Seekers add stealing to their list of crimes before we crush the swine."

"Were you able to ascertain anything about anything about the Necromancer?" asked James. "Who he was, who he might have been working for, or if he was alone?"
