--Column enters from The Northern Stretch--

The Weissland forces and refugees continued on their long march. It had been a good few days without rest; the Weisslanders were tired, especially the civilians who were not used to travelling long distances.

Mordain held his position at the head of the army with Shaellana walking beside him. He looked to the sky, wondering how long it would be until the Az'Gor arrived. They were taking longer than they should, and he was beginning to fear that they were dead.

Fargon was only a day's march away; hopefully, the city would be able to provide a well-earned rest for those in the column.

((I've forgotten; have any Realm forces joined the column? And could someone remind me of all the commanders within the column?))

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

((No Realmers except for Justin, Bana and Morbius has joined the army. Commanders: Castoden, Bayel, Mordain, Timus Aldron. Narandar left I think? Jimmy should have control on who the lesser ones are))

--Entering from the Northern Stretch--

A days march would see them at Fargon. General Bayel knew that he was cutting things very close. But he could see what was happening, and they had to put the right pieces in the right place. If Weissland was to survive, it required everyone to do everything possible. Everything relied upon a few people amongst the column being here and being who he was sure they were. He was taking a lot on faith, they all were, if they were mistaken about the character of even one, it could lead to destruction.

At least the smaller pieces were working well. Jessa Aeris would ride off to Iludon to complete her mission there. It would give Bayel and the others time to complete what they needed to do. Get to Asulien, keep the pieces in play. Defeat the Defiled Kingdom and survive, bring Weissland back from the brink. What was important was keeping Jessa Aeris away and unaware of Nathaniel Drakkon and everything happening with him. So far he had been successful, and he was lucky in that Jessa had spent the last few years away from most mages in her work, and even now stayed away from the mage lords. They were the problem, Bayel could not adequately place them into categories of trustworthy and untrustworthy. They were all knee-deep in their own agendas.

((Sorry for my innactivity, I've been doing a lot of school stuff for the upcomming exams.))

Mordus stood still for a moment, trying to read Nathaniel's features. They betrayed nothing to his satisfaction. Little blood escaped from the pierced leg; the spell was meant to impale whilst keeping the victim alive.

"Perhaps I will, Drakkon." He said resignedly. "Let me 'heal' your wounds, that no permanent harm should befoul you..."

He gestured with one gloved hand at Nathaniel's leg and began repeating a common resorative echantment. He knew Nathaniel would know it as well, almost all standard tomes contained it. As he enounciated he could feel the revolting sesnsation in his gut which proceeded every atempt he made at 'pure' lore as the Mage Lords called it.

The splinter in the leg disappeared but the flesh did not heal. Instead it turned ever paler, until the veins were visible in dark blue, quickly turning black. It was decomposing.

Nathaniel said "That's not healing. What's wrong with you?" He spoke a few words of his own, healing the flesh perfectly. The older mage looked at Mordus with suspicion and mistrust "Why can't you use healing magic properly? Is everything you do corrupted?"

"I think you'll find I am the one asking the questions." Said Mordus before stamping one foot down. A Seeker entered through the canvas covered entrance at the back of the wagon, carrying shackles; the likes of which were seen in the magic draining null dungeon of Ataya.

Mordus waved the Seeker forward and the shackles were placed onto Drakkon. The Seeker left and Mordus adjusted his gloves.

"Now, where was I. Ah yes.." He recited another rejuvinative spell in his head. This time a much more potent one. The flesh on Nathaniel's leg greyened faster this time, and rigor mortis could be heard creeping painfully into the bones.
The shackles hummed with a faint metallic ringing as they worked to fatigue Drakkon were he to use any magic.

((You decayed his leg. I'd say that's seriously injuring him. The point is, this is supposed to be an interrogation, not just torture. You've asked one question so far, it doesn't matter who you're doing it to, pain alone is not going to make him tell you anything.))

((I would very much disagree on your point, but ok, I'll compromise.))

"Tell me! What are you hiding. For all you know your silence is hampering the very thing you seek to protect." He shouted as he let the spell go. Instead he murmured the Portent of Blood which quickly restored Nathaniel's leg whilst slightly opening old wounds as a cost.

((See, all I was wanting was a proper interrogation. Without that I have nothing to really respond to beyond saying, he's in pain, etc.))

Nathaniel gritted his teeth, tried to fight through the pain. He struggled to say "Gah. You, y-you don't know what I'm protecting. My silence is all that is required of me."

"Nothing more? You're pride, virtue, sanity...humility?" He said as he pressed with his boot on the leg. " If only you're silence is required then perhaps I am wasting my time. Great men do not usualy die for small ideals."

Nathaniel grunted in pain. He let a small murmur of it escape his lips, before he held the rest back. He swallowed hard, and said "Never claimed to be a great man... ju-just a better man than you." He began to laugh, knowing that it was only a matter of time. He knew what he had to do, and how long he had to do it for. He could last, he could last.

Shaellana looked back at the wagon, her special sight allowing her to see what transpired within. Mordus was breaking Drakkon, and Drakkon was in a lot of pain. She hated this.

"My Lord, perhaps we should relieve Mordus?" she suggested.

"No, Shaellana. Soon, but not yet."

((Bear with me please, I think this offers some exposition whilst at the same time acting as interrogation.))

Mordus laughed as he removed his foot from the wound, relieving some of his warped sanity in the process.
"Ah but come now, Drakkon, that there is no hard thing to do. Or so most would come to believe. I am a necessity you see. When good men falter in their shackles of morality I am there to see to that action and foresight take presedence. I am there to throw asside my humanity for others. Even now.
So trust me when I say great men Nathaniel, I can see virtue clearer than most."

He paused and delved inside his cloak for a piece of parchment. It was aged to the point of being mottled brown and ragged on one side where it was evident it had been torn from a larger piece.
He bent down in front of Nathaniel and placed it upon the wooden floor, in plain sight, strange writing etched upon it and somehow not faded like the rest of the piece.

"Every man is his own great tormentor. You will know that quite well I think...perhaps." He said, gaugeing Drakkon for the hint of ethereal he had once sensed. The man had more than his fair share of demons he figured. The imbibed parchment would awaken memories. The worst kind.

Mordus flicked at the parchment with his right hand and it lay still. A numbing silence which they could both feel in their eardrums cut out all external sound and the space darkened until only a faint glow from the parchment was left to light a small radius within.

Mordus sat down on the floor opposite Nathaniel and withdrew a flask of what had to be some strong spirit, because he swigged it before talking.
"Now we wait."
He knew the whispers would start, and then the harrowing.

Mistrandar rode past the wagon where Mordus was questioning Nathaniel. He could not hear anything through the thick, solid wall and did not want to use magic to try and figure out what was happening either. He knew Shaellana was watching.

He turned his horse and rode towards her and Mordain. "Thaendil," he said with firm voice. "For how long will this go on?"

Nathaniel looked at the parchment. It glowed with an unnatural light, and the writing was unknown to him. He could only guess at its purpose. Mordus was a sick little sadist, he had failed with physical torture, this was something else, mental torture most likely. Nathaniel's face remained impassive. He knew his own limits, unfortunately for everyone else, they did not. That Dark Disciple Kazmar'Ach had tried something similar, but on a grander scale. Nathaniel Drakkon's will was stronger, he had never met anyone who could match it. Finally he said "What will the parchment do? Reveal my inner-most thoughts to you? It will fail."

"I am not quite sure myself. None of the previous prisoners emerged sane enough to tell me." He said. Acting without warning he flurrished a hand in a fell wave and both of Drakkon's legs were pinned with the same shards as previous. Muttering under his breath as he turned his back on Drakkon the darkness in the room grew greater.

"Pitty I don't have more time.." He said as he left the wagon, and the nightmare curse began whispering incoherently.

((Take it away! I have no idea what Nathaniel would see so surprise us.))

Nathaniel ignored the Dark Seeker as he left. Mordus’ attempts at intimidation were like himself, flawed. Silence followed. This was all Nathaniel needed, time. Time to rest, time to recover, and time to think. Every moment wasted got them closer to Asulien. That was all that mattered. He was not vital to the plan, never was, he had done almost everything he needed to do. There were a few loose ends, after all, there always are, but nothing which could not be handled by others.

The parchment still did not seem to be doing anything. Nothing was happening. The writing still meant nothing to him, but there was a buzzing at the edge of his hearing. It was almost familiar. Nathaniel turned his head and as he turned it back there was a concussive impact of energy.

The sun glared down on him, and Nathaniel Drakkon squinted in the sun. He was standing on the grounds of the estate, his mother and father nearby along with Barnabas Graves and several of the bodyguards. He barely registered the words which the Lieutenant spoke, four soldiers flanking him with their horses behind. The man said to his father “I am sorry to bring such tidings to you Lord Drakkon. We found your son Arthan this morning, dead. We are of course, beginning an investigation immediately.”

Nathaniel was stunned, he felt like he could not move. His mother broke down in tears, and he was dimly aware of his father shouting “I want you to do everything in your power Lieutenant. Do whatever it takes, I demand justice!” Even as the sound of hooves receded in his ears Nathaniel Drakkon made a vow, an oath. The first of several. He would become a powerful mage and track down his brother’s murderer and avenge his death.

He was shaken out of the memory, as if on a ship in the middle of a storm. The buzzing retreated for a few moments, before becoming stronger again. There was a hammer strike of energy.

It knocked him down again, and he rolled through leaves and twigs. He could smell a host of different scents, wet fur, raw meat, animal urine and blood. Some of the blood was his. Nathaniel staggered up again, there was blood streaming down his temple, some of it trickled into his eye. He did not have time for this. No idea where his sword was or his staff. As he turned around he began to speak, the words of a spell poured from his lips. Coils of smoke rose from the ground.

The werewolf lumbered forward, but Nathaniel had finished the spell. The coils of smoke were wreathed around the limbs of the werewolf now, and suddenly they became chains. The beast was held in place, although it strained at them instantly. The mage looked around for his sword, and as he found it in the scrub he reached for it. He heard a snap over his shoulder, at first passing it off as nothing but a twig. He spun as quick as he could, but the werewolf had broken free of the chains and rushed him.

He felt an impact and pain as it picked him up by the throat in one clawed hand. He felt those claws scrape skin from his neck. Breath became short, ragged, as the monster lifted even the tall mage clear of the ground. It pulled back its other arm, aiming a punch which would surely turn any mortal man’s head to a puff of red mist. Nathaniel did not blink; he only awaited what was to come. The werewolf bunched its muscles, tensed and then released. He saw the fist coming at him and then.

Darkness. Just darkness in the wagon and the faint glow of the parchment. Nathaniel Drakkon was alone in the wagon, alone in the dark. The spark of light shining in the cold blackness.

Mordain looked to the mage lord, his fist clenching at his side. He replied, in a voice no less firm than that of Mistrandar. "For as long as it needs to, mage lord. And no matter the circumstances, Mistrandar, I am still Lord Thaendil to you. And you will remember your place."

Shaellana saw Mordus leave the wagon and moved to intercept him, calling his attention and beckoning him closer.

"Tell me, Mordus; has your work produced results?"
