Arhaina caught the Nathremal on her sword, hearing the revolting sound as the blade crunched through its spine. There was a bright light before a high pitched crack. An arc of lightning danced as it struck the agent and turned him to ashes within a few agonising seconds, releasing a terrible stench of burning flesh. The magic brushed both Brae and the Nathremal for a split second as Ithrain ended the spell. "Not yet," Elandir said, turning to fight again. The eagle came down even further, allowing both riders to leap off, weapons already drawn. Narandar ran towards Ithrain while Khanden, the Royal Guard, landed nearer to Anach. The eagle pulled up, going back to the sky. |

The Nathremal that had been fighting Arhaina fell to the ground shrieking in agony, and attempting to clutch its wound. But the wound was out of reach. Anach turned swiftly and parried the first attack of the Royal Guard. At the same time, he extended his hand towards Elandir; the man was lifted off the ground and held in the air. He was being choked by an unseen force. Anach continued to block and parry the Royal Guard's attacks, though the lich knew that his opponent had the upper hand in close combat. ----- With the Agent dead, Brae was left to fight the Nathremal by himself. He parried and dodged the creature's attacks. The Nathremal was a deadly opponent, but Brae had faced worse... He waited for his chance. He leapt over the creature and brought his blade across the vampire's neck, severing its head. The vampire crumbled to dust. ----- Korth maintained his beams of healing magic until the undead monstrosity fell to the ground, its power gone. |

"Ithrain!" Narandar called. The mage lord stopped suddenly, going as still as a statue. He could not face his brother, not now. Narandar slowed down to a walking pace. Khanden made large slashes, yet swift, offering little chance of a successful offensive. The lich blocked each attack but the Royal Guard would not tire, not before his opponent was disarmed and defeated. He was moving forward, forcing Anach back. Arhaina took a step back from the Nathremal, leaving the wounded form alone. She saw Elandir suspended in the air but she knew nothing of magic, so she headed instead for Renaulin. |

Anach thrust his hand further through the air; Elandir was cast back and hit with great force against a tree. With the spell restraining the man gone, Anach was free to focus his full power on the lowaly guardsman. The lich parried another attack and blasted the royal guard backwards. He let out a deathly chill that brought a terrible darkness into the mind of the mortal. Horrid visions began to haunt him and cries of pain, cries in the sound of his own voice, surrounded him. He was being brought a vision of his own death, by the hands of thousands of undead that tore him apart and feasted upon his corpse. Anach did not know if this man had the willpower to resist the spell and carry on; few people did. ----- Brae moved towards the wounded Nathremal, ready to destroy the creature. But Korth beat him to it. The druid finished the Nathremal with a focussed beam of healing power that erased the creature's head from existence. This was good; the lich fought only with Ithrain now. Their minions were slain. |

It was not death that frightened Khanden, it was failure. He could see the undead all around, no signs of any other Weisslanders - they must have suffered the same fate. He felt a pain in his mind, yet a conflicting nothingness in his body. He closed his eyes, let everything fade, and listened, letting his ears and his instinct guide his blade his eyes could not detect. He was trained, had done all his life, to never accept death at the hands of his enemies without a fight. "Ithrain, brother, tell me you do not truly belong to this darkness!" Narandar said. Arhaina helped Renaulin to his feet, though the dark elf was still badly shaken and dazed. |

Anach's rage grew as he watched his opponent rise, defying the effects of his spell. The lich turned towards the corpse of the undead monster that lay strewn across the forest floor. With deathly whispers, he began chanting yet another spell. His body was carried from the ground by an unseen force as arcs of foul power struck the corpses that had formed the monster's body. A good number of undead, perhaps a hundred, rose to fight the few mortals that opposed Anach. "Now, mortals, death will claim you." ----- Korth was quick to respond; he assumed the form of a bear and rushed towards the undead, throwing as many back as he could. He knew that with his physical supperiority, it was his duty to keep the undead at bay. ----- Brae too was quick to react to the rising undead. He took daggers from beneath his cloak and hurled them towards the undead, felling them with skilful strikes. But their numbers were so that his blades alone would achieve nothing... |

"Answer me!" Narandar said, putting more force into his voice. He was the older of the two, the more sensible, the one who had been looked up to. "Leave... me..." Ithrain started, turning around, "a-LONE!" The mage threw his brother back with a shockwave. His eyes seemed to dim, to fade into a magical blue as the lust for power which Drathmor had bestowed upon him was brought to life. To Narandar it was terrifying to see him that way, blind and deaf to everything else. Dark magic flared at Ithrain's fingertips, waiting to be released. "Are you going to kill me?" Narandar asked. __________________ Elandir groaned, reaching up to his head, feeling a wound, feeling faint. He maintained his consciousness though, knowing he might not wake otherwise, and remembering what was at stake. He had pushed himself further than most men could go, over the years, lost enough blood to feed a vampire for a great length of time. It was magic, in the end, that kept him alive, his own and that of others - but healing himself now might push him over the edge. Arhaina saw the undead coming and abandoned Renaulin, who at least did not fall over as she let go. She ran in front of Elandir, swinging her sword with both hands, targetting those who tried to go past her. She could not let them reach him. Anach's attention was diverted; it was enough for Khanden to open his eyes and strike again. Killing the necromancer destroyed his minions, he knew. He would have no better chance - the undead would not be held up long before they passed the shapechanger. |

Anach shrieked in fury as the bear and the half-elf attacked his minions. He raised a skeletal hand and blasted the half-elf with a bolt of death;y acid. The foul liquid struck the man's arm, sending him to the ground instantly, howling in agony. As for the bear, Anach moved towards him. He chanted another spell; the bear's body was gripped with a numbing sensation as Anach aged the creature's joints. He afflicted the bear with a simple form of paralysis. The undead drew close, ready to devour the druid. Finally, the lich looked to Ithrain. He saw the man facing down another mortal. "Ithrain, finish him! Our task is not completed here yet!" he shouted. |

Anach did not seem to see him raise the blade, too busy casting his magic. Khanden aimed to decapitate him from behind but the lich took a step forward so the blade slashed across its shoulder blades instead. Black fire leapt out at Narandar. The elf cried out in pain as the magic licked his face... but then it flickered away. Ithrain could not kill his brother after all. Struggling against the power, he summoned his healing power. It did not come easily - only a tiny spark of white light emerged from his hand at first. Arhaina was tiring. Brae and Korth were fighting a losing battle now and more and more undead were coming for her and Elandir. |

Anach shrieked in fury as the blade tore across his shoulder. He turned and grabbed the throat of the royal guard, picking him from the ground. Anach chanted a spell, invoking the power of a wraith to drain the mortal's life force with a mere touch. |

Khanden did not feel the touch at first; his armour and helm covered most of his neck but the lich's fingers found their way to his throat quickly. It was difficult to fight back from that point but he did not let go of his weapon, he spun it around to hack at the wrist which was choking the life out of him. Ithrain's healing magic finally emerged fully and he directed it at his brother's wounds. "I knew you would return to me eventually, Ithrain," Narandar said. "Thank you." Elandir weakly pushed his sword forward, into the ground at an angle so that Arhaina could take it. She had been forced back near to him by the undead. Renaulin finally pulled himself together and moved into the fray. |

Anach shrieked and rasped as his hand was severed. The lich recoiled backwards only to see Ithrain heal one of the mortals. "You... you miserable traitor!" shrieked the lich. He raised his remaining hand and blasted Ithrain. With a few gestures, he also directed a portion of the undead towards the man. ----- With no small amount of effort, Brae lunged towards Korth and kept the undead away from him by swinging his sword wildly with his good arm. |

Ithrain was caught by surprise, without any defences in place. When the dust cleared, he lay unmoving on the ground, his fine robes in tatters, scarred and wounded. The undead moved towards him but Narandar at least was there to defend him. He was surprised at his own courage. Holding up a standard with hundreds of men around him should have been nothing compared to facing so many undead, coming towards him alone. In the end, it did not matter. Anach had once again underestimated Khanden and let himself be distracted. This time, the Royal Guard struck soundly, taking the lich's head straight off and smashing the skull under his armoured boot. The undead slowed as Narandar was preparing to fight, then they started to drop. Before long, they all lost that spark of Necromancy which kept them moving. Khanden clutched his neck. The pain remained, even if he had ignored it for long enough to survive. |

Korth felt the feeling return to his body. He assumed his elven form and rose to his feet, walking towards Narandar and the wounded Ithrain. "Kill him." said Korth, his voice cold. |

"I do not know you but I will do no such thing," Narandar said. "Ithrain spared my life; it seems only right that I should spare his." At that point Renaulin shook his head whilst Arhaina nodded in agreement. Elandir, still leaning against the tree, muttered "Cut out his tongue - or at least gag him. He's still dangerous." |

"If you cannot kill him, then so be it. But I have met this creature before; he is evil. Whatever he once was to you, he is no more. Look at him. He has fallen into darkness. "No! It's not too late for him - we've all done regrettable things in the past have we not?" Elandir coughed at this, but Narandar continued. "He's barely alive as it is... Cast down by one of those he turned to. Give him the chance to choose a warrior's death, to atone for his mistake." |

Korth lowered his hand, but advanced on Narandar. "Regrettable things? Listen to yourself! He is guilty of more than 'regrettable things'. Brae went silent. Korth, however, kept going. "Mordain Thaendil's loyalty is not in question. What he is... he can control. This wretch, however, is too far gone. Look at him! The power of the Dark Lord runs through his very veins!" spat the druid. |
