[Elandir, Agent One, Arhaina, Unnamed dark elf captain, and presumably Brae, on the way to Asulien] The group followed the road out of Meiroi, Elandir leading the way at first but then dropping behind the agent to speak to the others. "Dark elf... do you have a name?" "Renaulen," he replied quickly. "Which Lord did you call your own?" Elandir asked. "Cyrredlues, to those who asked," Renaulin said, "but Eradri in truth." "That name doesn't sound familiar to me. This 'Eradri' mustn't be one of the most infamous lords of Rathor... Not that I'd be the one to know." |

"And how did a dark elf come by this company?" asked Brae, toying with a dagger in his hand. |
|
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

((To be honest, that Dark Elf was at the meeting but he showed up from nowhere. As a reader to the thread and not a participant the thread was confusing)) |

((If I remember rightly, Ulrin said to Brae that he would have his own guys attend the meeting as well.)) "He's one of Ulrin's men. An ally," Elandir answered for him. He was not feeling uneasy with the alliance despite differences between the two groups. It was turning out better than he had expected. |

Brae smirked. He shot a glance at the dark elf. "Then how does a dark elf come to be in Ulrin's company?" |

"One either is recruited, or inherited," Renaulin said. "We do not share the same prejudices against the races that Weissland, for the most part, scorns." He hesitated but added. "From the looks of it, demons are not one of those races." |

Brae's smirk only widened. "Lord Mordain is what he is. He fights for Weissland, and will most likely die for Weissland. Any fool can see that. What difference does it make what he is?" |

"So Eradri, you said?" the agent ahead asked, returning to the original topic. "I vaguely recall the name. Something about a kind of rune." "Yes, his symbol does have that kind of appearance," Renaulin said with a nod. |

Brae went silent, content to listen to the conversation around him and continue to flip the dagger around in his hand. |

"Are there many lords of Rathor?" Arhaina wondered aloud. "Several," Renaulin told her. "It used to be that they were about equally popular, each having different ideas on how to rule Rathor. The citizens would choose their preferred lord, though often the decision was based on where they lived, or the opinions of friends." "That sounds a lot more peaceful than I believe it to have been," the agent said. "Maybe so. But Cyrredlues changed that. He was the first to announce his own lordship without blood rights and the first to openly attack the system. At first, only the arrogance and ignorance of the other lords protected him from their wrath. He was stirring up hatred for his enemies, both those he saw as rivals as well as the people of Lathor. Of course, dark elves and high elves have never been on good terms, but Cyrredlues encouraged open war and destruction." "I don't understand it," Arhaina said. "How could one such as he bring himself from an unknown citizen to the recognised leader of Rathor?" "He found allies, earned the respect of the dark elves through speeches and rumours, proved himself a capable warrior and leader. He made them question their loyalty to the other lords and made their ideas seem suddenly alien and archaic. Some of the lords even found themselves agreeing with his and he took advantage of this, making pawns out of even them." The lady shook her head as if about to question his explanation further but he continued. "And then, when he had become as popular as any one of the others, he made examples of those who did stand against him. His weapon struck fear into the hearts of those he did not slay immediately. None of the dark elf lords wanted to face him in combat; some of them chose to follow him and some chose to hide away in the shadows, pride and fear stopping them joining together against him. The ordinary citizens have been poisoned by his influence ever since." |

"He will be a formidable foe, no doubt. But killing him could even redeem the dark elves and end the constant war between Lathor and Rathor? At the least, it would set events in motion that we could bring to that end." |

"Yes, it's possible," Renaulin said. "It might take time, but if we can survive Drathmor's invasion, I guess that won't be quite so short as it is now..." "Believe me," Elandir said. "Killing him is the hard part... I've tried, Lathaon and Mordain have tried, Laki Greystaff tried, and none of us have come even close." |

"Dead is dead," Elandir said, shaking his head. "We can't afford to take any unnecessary risks at this point." "What of Lathor?" Arhaina asked. "Any more news of the dark elf invasion?" "That reminds me - Thalian might have come to their aid by now. I need to get the people evacuated while they have the chance." Elandir created a spell sphere, which flew away. He did not concentrate on it; it would serve no purpose until it reached the sea. "Whoever gave you all this power, anyway?" Renaulin asked. "I did. Though I suppose I have Lathaon and Laki Greystaff to thank as well as that. And of course a bit of gold here and there helps sometimes." |
