Thalian had indeed followed Elandir's orders blindly and brought a fleet of warships, including two other flagships, around the coast of Weissland. The papers worked; until further notice, he had command of overall naval military actions.

The Heavenly Glaive was small. fast and crafted to resemble a dragon, with a huge harpoon at the front. Both sides spammed bolt throwers. It did not travel at full speed, instead following to the right of a much larger ship, that of Mordain Thaendil. To the left of that was a flagship belonging to an admiral whose name escaped Thalian's memory.

Aboard the Raven's Might, Captain Jaeril Faedyln surveyed the fleet around her. Mordain's flagship was an impressive vessel; what it lacked in manouverability, it made up for with weapons and a thick hull. It was darkly painted. Bolt throwers lined the sides, most below the deck. Three bolt throwers were concealed within the front of the hull behind trapdoors that could be opened to allow the bolt throwers to fire. And at the front of the ship sat a massive raven figurehead, which identified the ship as Mordain's vessel.

She awaited further orders from Thalian, the fleet commander.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

The dark elven fleet was assembled up ahead, but not in battle formation, though it was clear that they had spotted Thalian's fleet and were preparing for battle.

One of the crew approached him. "Raven's Might is signalling us, captain! They want to know if we should engage."

Thalian thought back to what Elandir had told him.

"Yes, I want all of the fleet moved forward and the crews in position for battle."

Jaeril watched the replied signals from the Heavenly Glaive. "Man the weapons, prepare for battle!" she shouted.

The crew of Raven's Might followed the command without hesitation, most descending below deck whilst others remained on the deck itself. Seekers moved here and there, doing what they could to help.

The dark elven fleet looked mostly the same. It was hard to tell where the fleet commander was, but there were a few larger ships. They were assuming a bowl formation against the Weisslanders. Some of the closer ships fired, but the bolts fell short.

"Gods, what did I do to deserve this?!" Thalian cursed as he observed the scale of the battle. "You there, signal the fleet to form a zig-zagged line and continue the advance!"

Seeing the signals from the Heavenly Glaive, Jaeril manouvered Raven's Might into one of the forward positions of the formation, knowing that the vessel could take far more punishment than the rest of the ships. When the dark elves were in range, she ordered the forward bolt throwers to fire, hoping to draw the attention of the enemy and protect the other ships.

They were too close now for the dark elves to counter the change in formation, but they moved closer still, focussing fire into the flanks of the line. It did some damage, but not as much as the dark elven fleet took with the two points exposed. They had at least delayed the flagships at the centre, however, who were firing less effectively over a greater distance.

Raven's Might moved towards a single dark elf vessel that had foolishly moved ahead of the rest, though the massive flagship did retain its position in the formation. Using the front-mounted bolt throwers, Raven's Might focussed all of its fire on the stray enemy ship, doing signifficant damage and almost sinking the ship with some well-placed shots.

On the other side of Raven's Might, the Spectral sailed forth into battle. It was large, but the height of the ship was far more remarkable. It possessed a decent arsenal of bolt throwers but most remarkable was the weapon at the front. It was large, resembling a bolt thrower but instead it was made to fire large spherical rocks down onto enemy ships, a devastating close range weapon.

Admiral John Matius had quickly agreed to bring this flagship to bear on Rathor's fleet, despite his irritance at a mere captain being put in command. He was eager to test the newly designed weapon.

_______

Seitran directed the shooting of one of the dark elf ships, letting out a cackle when one of the bolts made a direct hit, crippling one of the smaller attacking vessels. He enjoyed his job.

Closing in one the now-crippled dark elf ship, Raven's Might finished it off with a short burst of bolts. The bolt throwers mounted on the front were not regualr bolt throwers, but advanced weapons designed for Mordain's flagship by the dwarves. There were three bolt launchers built into the one weapon. After one of the launchers fired, the weapon was quickly rotated and the next launcher fired, and so on. It allowed the Raven's Might to maintain a near-constant attack, as long as the bolt launchers were re-armed fast enough.

Jaeril turned her attention to the next closest dark elf ship, unleashing another volley of bolts.

The bowl formation had disappeared now as the sides had been shortened and the centre straightened to fight the zig-zagged line. The two less resilient flagships were making use of the cover that Raven's Might was providing. It had a powerful effect on the morale of the dark elven crews near to it. They would fire but when the bolts failed to cause much damage, they would lose heart.

At the flanks, dark elven volleys were proving more effective. Most of the weaker ships, who had been at the rear before they formed a line, had been made more vulnerable. The dark elves were now attempting to roll back the enemy flanks and surround the fleet with their greater numbers. Progress was slow, however.

Seitran's ship was coming dangerously close to Raven's Might now. It was one of the larger ships of the fleet of Rathor. At the last moment, though, it veered off to the left, to be struck by the Heavenly Glaive's harpoon.

It was being drawn closer, to be boarded. Seitran didn't care, of course. He wanted to fight. He wanted his chance to destroy that hideous monstrosity of a creation. A few of the bolt throwers fired once more before the ships collided and the crew of the Heavenly Glaive started to board the ship.

Raven's Might made a sharp, unnexpected turn and unleashed a port-side volley, to devastating effect on two of the closer dark elf ships. With the turn made, Jaeril was now free to unleash her forward launchers against one of the enemy ships attacking the Weissland flanks. This attack had less of an effect than the port-side barrage, but it did send a message to the enemy.

She looked to the front of her ship, making sure that the Seekers were ready to unleash the magic concealed within the raven figurehead should any dark elf vessels draw close enough. The Seekers were ready and waiting.

Seitran grabbed an axe and charged at the Weisslanders, yelling death threats. He and the other crew outnumbered them, but had much less experience in combat.

Swords, shields and spears clashed together in furious melee. The dark elves, save Seitran, could not match the strength of the human crew, and experience made up for less natural skill. They were losing quickly. Each time the frenzied dark elf axeman swung, he would be dodged or parried and pushed back.

The dark elves had saved their more powerful passengers until more casualties had been taken. Now, they continued to push the flanks but now the crew released volleys of arrows meant to kill the crew on the decks. It only took a few to die for the necromancers to bring them back as zombies and take out a ship from within.

Two ships fell soon after they began using this tactic. They were then set ablaze and left to drift.

Admiral Matius, bringing his ship closer in, finally got to test the weapon. The heavy stone was flung down on a dark elf ship, smashing through the deck and continuing through. The boards split and fell in, causing massive damage. Then one of the masts tumbled down. The bolt throwers continued to attack. The stone launcher took a long time to reload, being so large, with an incredibly powerful string and heavy ammunition.

"Captain, should we capture the ship?" one of the crewmen shouted back.

Thalian replied. "Yes! Take the ship and kill her crew!"

The vast, indomitable form of Raven's Might closed quickly on another ship.

"Now, Seekers, now!" commanded Jaeril.

The Seekers around the figurehead threw their cloaks open, revealing the rune-covered robes they were wearing beneath. These were no ordinary Seekers, but Shadow Mages; Seekers trained in the arts of magic by Mordain himself, and trained well at that. They were powerful spell casters.

Chanting their spell, they unleashed the dormant magic within the figurehead that Mordain had placed there long ago. The eyes of the raven glowed purple and its beak opened, unleashing a terrible jet of black fire upon the nearby dark elf ship. Their sails were obliterated and the majority of their deck went up in flames.

"Release a forward volley!" shouted the captain.

The forward-facing bolt launchers loosed three bolts, striking the dark elf ship and crippling it.

Within the dark elf high command, concern was spreading regarding the powerful flagships in the centre of Weissland's formation. Ships were being lost rapidly in that part of the field. They knew that their own formation could be split in two if they weren't careful, and nobody liked the prospect of those flagships moving round behind them.

"Sorcerers, begin preparations immediately. Let's end this," said the leader quietly. The flagships would face a worthy foe soon enough.

Raven's Might swerved rapidly to offer cover for the smaller Heavenly Glaive. Jaeril could see that they had suffered damage, but she could do nothing about that. The dark elves were encroaching; she had to defend her comrades.

The rope of the harpoon which attached the two ships together was released and the dark elf ship, crewed by a handful of soldiers from the Heavenly Glaive, began to turn to face its new targets while the flagship itself accepted the cover of Raven's Might.

There was a disturbing rumbling. A few bubbles burst on the surface but it went unnoticed.

A couple more ships were destroyed on the left flank, left blazing as the others had been, crewmembers slaughtered from within by the bodies of their former friends. On the right flank, the combat was balanced. Both sides were taking damage from each other's weaponry but one of the necromancers had been slain. The centre was dominated by the flagships.

Admiral Matius watched the second stone fall into place at last, and was quick to unleash it upon the nearest ship. This time it was not such a direct hit, hitting the side of the hull but then bouncing overboard. Yet still it was devastating. Splinters flew out everywhere.

The Shadow Mages rushed to the edge of the ship, gazing at the waters.

"What's down there..." whispered one of them.

"Keep your wits about you! Find out what they're doing!" commanded Jaeril.

Raven's Might kept the smaller flagship covered, and kept the dark elf ships at bay with a number of volleys.

The sea started to become noticable rougher, waves throwing the ships from side to side. There were more bubbles, plentiful now. The waves were coming out from the centre of the battle like ripples as the sea trembled.

The Shadow Mages scowered the battle for the source of this magic. They found it, in the form of dark elf necromancers.

"Necromancers!" shouted one of the mages.

Jaeril watched the ocean continue to quake. "Signal the Heavenly Glaive. Request a retreat."
