James nodded and then turned and walked away. He did not like this, but it seemed to be what Weissland needed. Yes, he would do this for Weissland, do it to save the lives of so many men and women who would otherwise suffer and perish under Drathmor, but once the war was over...things would be much clearer then. |

After James had walked away, Mordain returned to his place in the column. The army would continue to Asulien, James would be crowned and Weissland would fight for its very survival. |

Amalrith shook his hand, gesturing intensively. "I say we should tell either Aldron or Castoden right now, either those two or Mordain." Boralays shook his head in a calm manner, steering his horse with both hands clutched on the reins. "And I'll say it's safe and wise to wait it out." "We can not wait until Asulien Boralays," Amalrith protested. "Then it might to late." "Let us just observe the events for a while, shall we?" Boralays advised. "If we goes to higher powers with this it might be that the enemy of ours finds out that we know about him. We would not want that now would we. I'm telling, let's wait it out. Keep a watchful eye of our own." |

Nathaniel kept pace with column. This constant marching was beginning to wear thin, he wanted to reach Asulien. Inside his head, Lilith Albrecht said "Oh yes, eager to reach Asulien are you? I'm sure you'll reach that deathtrap soon enough." Internally Nathaniel replied, grimacing "Shut up spirit! Asulien is a fortress, and what would you know about it anyway? Its not like you've ever been there." Lilith goaded "But I'm in your head, I probably know everything you do." Nathaniel responded "If you knew everything I did, that would prove that you are not here. That you are just a delusion." The spirit pushed again "If I'm a delusion, you're mad. Do you feel insane then?" Nathaniel said "The insane do not question their sanity, I regularily do." Once more the spirit prodded "But maybe I really am a spirit. After all, that half-elf woman saw me, and so did Mordain. Strange that he's part demon no?" Nathaniel growled "If I am insane, then you are a symptom of my insanity. If they saw you, then it was a magically-induced hallucionation which I created subconciously. Or you really are a spirit and they saw you. Which means you should realise that once this war is over, and the Defiled Kingdom defeated, you will shortly be gone for good." Lilith smirked "Maybe, maybe not." |

One of the scouts, Bearen, rode across the grasslands to the west of the road called the Northern Stretch. At a distance he rode across the long column until he reached the helm where he could see numerous important people like Mordain Thaendil and James Castoden. He rode towards Mordain. "Lord Thaendil," he called out. "There's a large battallion of dwarves, approximately six or seven thousand, marching at quick pace from west to east, further north. They will cross the Northern Stretch just a few hundred meters north of our army when they reach it." ---------------------------------------------------------- At the same time Morbius Stemper quickly rode through the column. He had arrived in the army together with Narandar and his men, but the whole army together with the horde of refugees had been so much to him that it had been difficult to figure things out. But he had soon heard that Ariakas was no longer in the army, so he could not deliver the letter from Hound that he carried at the inside of his vest. But now he had heard that at least there was a Realmer, and more than that, a Warrior of Mjolnir riding at the helm of the army. The rumours going through the army said that this man had been released from prison by Mordain Thaendil himself, and now rode by his side. Morbius had difficulty imagining a Warrior of Mjolnir riding at Mordain's side. |

Mordain looked down upon the scout. "Dwarves? But no word has reached them, as of yet. For them to have sent a force so soon... someone else must have called their assistance, or they are acting on their own initiative. Either way, they must join with us or face the army of the Defiled Kingdom." |

"Yes, at the very least they must be warned. Tell them to halt under," he shot a glance at Castoden, but then looked back to the scout, "my authority." |

Bearen nodded, turned his horse around and rode northwards quickly. A quick ride later, after having turned slightly across the grasslands westwards he came into sight of the Dwarven soldiers. They halted and lifted their banners higher in the sky. Bearen, who was joined by the rest of his scouting company who consisted of eleven other good riders, recognized the banners as those of the Dwarven city of Dwarac, under control of Lord Halder. The dwarves could see that if there was more soldiers nearby they had to be quite far away, so two captains and the banner bearer stepped forth from the formation. Bearen halted his men and together with his second-in-command and good friend, Mreben, he rode forward. "Who rides along the Northern Strech?" one of the captains called out, he was quite tall for a dwarf. He had a long grey beard, and a thick iron cap on his head. "We are of Weissland, my company are only a vanguard and a scouting party for a larger army of Weissland hailing from Ataya and all of south-eastern Weissland," Bearen said. "From Ataya?" the dwarf said. "who leads that army?" Bearen was unsure what to respond to this, "Joint leadership by Timus Aldron, Mordain Thaendil and James Castoden." "In the name of Lord Eben," the dwarf said, coming quickly closer. "So, it's all true then. The undead are marching north after you." "So news have reached you on this? How?" "The mage lord Paulin, at the court of Lord Eben, received news from one of your mage lords through magical means. Following that, news spread quickly through Daulinen." "And what are the Lords of Daulinen doing?" Bearen asked rashly, not intending to mock or anything. The dwarf however, ignored him his choice of words. "They are preparing the defenses of their own cities. Where are your army marching? Asulien?" Bearan simply nodded, but then frowned. "But why are you marching east if you did not know about us then?" "Before news about Ataya's fall and your retreat reached Daulinen our city, Dwarac, was contacted by Zach Amakiir, who answers to the orders from Elandir Daenthai. Apperently, Endral has been taken and they needed aid to reconquer it. I guess it matters little know, if you have retreated as far as this." Bearen knew little of this, he had heard nothing about Endral. But then again, it was not for him to know. "What is your name?" he asked. The dwarf smiled and bowed as an appologize, "I am sorry. My name is Captain Karte, servant of Lord Halder of Dwarac. This is Captain Maugen and Sindri." He said as he gestured to the other captain and the banner bearer. "Please to meet you, my name is Bearen of Kynair, and this is Mreben. Now, we should move to the road and make ready to meet with the commanders of our army." |

The army made good pace up the Northern Stretch. Mordain had ordered the Dragon Lords to circle back and destroy the bridge crossing the river behind them, hoping to slow the undead advance. It was not long before the dwarven force was coming into view. |

Jessa Aeris sighed slightly from her position near the front of the column. Up ahead she could see the formation that was the Dwarven army. Perhaps meeting up with another Weissland force would raise the spirits of the troops, and hopefully the refugees as well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nathaniel Drakkon was much further back in the column, somewhere in the centre perhaps. Although it was difficult to tell, especially after the bridge crossing a while back. Columns always tended to slow down and bunch up a bit when crossing bridges, but Nathaniel had noticed that despite everything which had happened, the soldiers were holding onto their resolve and experience remarkably. Even here, word had reached him that there was a Dwarven force up ahead, although what was exactly going on, he did not know. As he thought about it, he saw a rider coming back down the line at a fair pace. A messenger. Nathaniel would not have given it much more thought, but the man stopped near him and turned, following with the flow of the column again. The man said "Are you the mage Nathaniel Drakkon?" Nathaniel replied "Yes, I am." The soldier continued "I have a message from General Bayel. He requests that you come to see him as soon as possible." Nathaniel said questioningly, taken by surprise "General Bayel?" The messenger responded "Yes, he is--" Nathaniel cut him off "I know who he is, I just didn't know he was with the column." The messenger nodded and said "He was part of the contingent from Ataya. Will you come with me?" Nathaniel shook his head "No, tell General Bayel that I will come and find him as soon as the column next makes camp." The messenger nodded once and rode off up the column again. Nathaniel rubbed at his left forearm, deep in thought. |

The six thousand dwarves formed up in a strong, block formation to the left of the road as the army rolled forward. Captain Karte stepped forth from his soldiers, together with Sindri and Captain Maugen. He stood proudly, awaiting whoever was in charge of the army. |

Mordain looked at James, but the man was unresponsive, presumably deep in thought about what now awaited him as King of Weissland. Whipping the reigns, Mordain rode forward with Shaellana and gestured for Aldron to follow him. He stopped in front of the dwarves. "Identify yourselves, friends of Ataya. I trust no introduction is needed on my part." |

The two dwarven captains both bowed deeply, as good dwarven manners demanded, to Mordain. "Of course not, Lord Mordain Thaendil," Karte spoke. "I am Captain Karte under the court of Lord Halder of Dwarac, servant of Lord Eben of Daulinen. This is Sindri and Captain Maugen." Sindri did not bow. That was the way of the dwarves, since Sindri carried the banner of their regiment he would not bow to anyone, except for the leader of their dwarfhold, Lord Halder, or all of Daulinen, Lord Eben. |

Nathaniel looked at his arm. It was healing well, the scaring was almost gone. Every now and then he was using healing spells to speed up the process of getting rid of the damaged tissue. A couple of the more powerful spells and the scars would be gone from both his arms. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jessa waited quietly in the column, wondering what Mordain was speaking about with the Dwarves. Troop movements and battle lines, Jessa could never get her head around it all. Magic came to her as naturally as walking or breathing, but the military seemed confusing and restrictive to her. Even maintaining the merchantile businesses of her family in Valoruin was comparatively easy to what the soldiers did. She respected them for it, but she still did not understand it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Niaunwe Tidurion moved through the column and found fellow mage lords Boralays and Amalrith. He said "So these Dwarves are here to reinforce us then? And what happened to those Realmer troops who were coming to join us?" |

"We are travelling to aid Zach Amakiir, under the leadership of Elandir Daenthai, in retaking Endral from the Shattered Sword," Karte spoke. "Although that may seem futile now, considering your and the coming enemy's presence." --------------------------------------------------------- Boralays and Amalrith had been talking quietly to each other, on what to do with the spell blocking of the army, when Tidurion had surprised them from behind. Amalrith slightly jumped in his saddle, while Boralays held his wit. Both turned irritated towards Tidurion, the irritation clear on their faces. "We do not know that," Boralays said, referring to the dwarves. "They could be, but how would they know of our coming." "The Realmers would be a three days or more after Narandar and his men. Remember, we are still unable to make contact with the rest of Weissland for unknown reasons," Amalrith said, not looking at Boralays as he said so. |

Boralays shrugged. "We don't know that simply," he said. He was about to ask Tidurion to leave him and Amalrith off, when the young, elven mage cut him off. "I believe we are being blocked by a magic user in our army," Amalrith said. Boralays stared shocked at Amalrith. |

Tidurion nodded sagely "Yes, that seems like the most likely answer. But it would have to be someone extremely powerful to cut us all off. Between the several mage lords and mages, to stop us all getting a spell sphere to work, I don't know how one individual could be powerful enough for that. Especially to stop the likes of Mordain. And since we still can't get a message out, it could not be one of the magic-users who fell in the rearguard. So that just leaves, well... the rest of us." |
