(This might be too long and boring a story for some, so just go to the other topic "Happy Anniversary" for the "Party Chat". I just felt like writing this
)I daresay it all started in June 2003. It was the final day of school with my class. I was about to leave that school after the summer and go to another one. That class was full of awesome friends of mine - my first friends in Denmark. They gave me a present, because I had been such a good friend throughout the 3 years we shared. It was a large, green box. On the box there were Elves and Goblins and with cool letters it said "Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring" as well as "Battle Games in the World of Middle-Earth". It was my entry into Games Workshop and I started off by playing with the miniatures, then I played battles, following the rules (with myself) and by the time Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King movie came out, I started to really show interest in Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game, although the only step I made was to buy the boxed set containing 9 metal miniatures - the Fellowship itself. I was still a newbie on the internet, using it to play internet games and little else. Then in December 2003, I got my Xbox gaming console with Halo Combat Evolved. Wow - Halo was awesome. Such a cool storyline. I had to know more about it. Then I signed up on the Bungie website/forums waaay back in February 2004. Then I started looking for info on Halo 2, as I saw it was going to be released soon. I saw a thread called "All Things you should know about Halo 2". I read through it and saw a guy who had replied and apparantly knew the topic creator. This guy was Ash. He then invited me to join a Halo 2 clan called Dragon Battalion. They had a cool forum and all and I was still a newbie at English, but this Ash dude was older than me, but he would let me be in his cool Halo 2 clan - oh I was excited. Forums and English - were sort of new to me. Sure, I was better at English than the Danish students in my 3rd till 5th grade class, but writing correctly was new to me. These Dragon Battalion forums soon moved from a phpBB (I think it was that) forum to paid InvisionPowerpboard forums (about July/August 2004). So the posting was all started from scratch and now I could show off my skills, hang out with these 2-3 years older dudes and post shitloads! Oh yeah - I definately wanted to be top poster each and every single day! My goal was to eventually become a Mod - like Ash, Phil and James (some of them were admins - meh). Well - the discussions about Halo (and other stuff) were cool, but I also posted a lot of worthless posts, just to get most posts. Mwuhahaha! JackDVS, Pezza and I were the spammers of Dragon Battalion. I eventually improved. My posts became gradually more interesting (and correctly written) and I was made Squad Leader of Xi Squad (we had divided the Battalion up in squads). That was awesome! I WAS A LEADER! Damn, I felt proud! Then when Halo 2 came out, the Battalion sort of died. It was Max's fault (his internet alias was Phoenix - so you people draw your own parallels to FHaG). We played a few games as a clan, but some people left it (such as myself), while others just didn't post on the forums. I managed to start on a Halo fanfiction story (Mission German Spearhead) on those forums in December 2004, but after that the forums of the Dragon Battalion died out. I didn't manage to become a mod I had made a lot of great friends however and I felt it really was worth it. These friends were Pezza, Jack, Ash, Phil and Jay. We remained on touch via MSN.I was on more and more forums by this time. A frequent visitor of Bungie Forums, GW Forums and another Halo clan's forums (Warriors of the Prophets). I was becoming a more experienced forumer. On the GW forums I posted and read a lot and wanted to have some friends, who also were into the hobby, because no one in my area was interested. So I asked for LotR SBGers to post their msn addresses in a GW forum topic. I added a lot of people there – amongst others BrannalbinnCaptainoftheNorth. We talked on MSN and quickly became good friends. Then I saw some people advertising for a LotR SBG forum board they had made themselves (we are taking January 2005). Khamul (GW mod) locked the topic before long, but I joined this community. I forgot its name. It had about 6-10 active users - me being the absolute top poster. I was not a mod, but I certainly acted like one - telling people not to double-post or make single-word posts and so on, but my strictness was disliked, I was branded a spammer and eventually got banned from the boards. lol. I had decided to have a shot at this whole forum-thing myself. I had never been made a mod or admin, but I wanted to be the one who set the rules. I wanted to be the leader. Yeah – maybe it was childish, but I wanted to try it out. I decided to make a forum board about LotR SBG, because I was becoming increasingly interested in the GW hobby. Those pricks on the other forum didn’t know how to run a proper board (in my eyes) and I had a lot of experience of using Invision(Free) so I would use Invisionfree for my own forum board. I knew that without members, it would never live so that it could die. I made the forum, and talked to all of my friends that could be interested. I did not limit the board to LotR SBG – I also included Video Games as a forum and hoped that some of my video games-friends would also join. It would be a multi-topical forum community – with focus on GW. It was evening, I remember. I made the board, talked to some people, they joined, posted in Introduction and so on. Cool! Late in the evening, I talked to Chris (Brannalbinn). I told him about this forum board I had made. He asked if it could also host his RPG project – UROD. I, of course, said yes – this would give The White Counsil (creative name – misspelled, but definitely different than the then-existing www.thewhitecouncil.net. Chris said he had quite a few friends he could ask to join and I was very happy. I managed to see him post, managed to see a guy named Ariakas register and then I went to bed, because it was very late. In the morning, I wanted to see if anybody had posted on TWC. I would, of course make sure that I would remain top poster and all. I seriously thought it would last for about a month and then we would be out of things to talk about and it would die – as Dragon Battalion had. I logged in and was shocked – I had been surpassed by several people in posting (and I had already made the “Welcome” and so on topics). Wow. So many new introduction topics. People posting in the Off Topic forum like crazy. (Oi – that reminded me that it was thanks to Ash and his admining at Dragon Battalion that I made the Association Thread and disabled post counting for Off Topic ). Brannalbinn, HarrytheBear, HuggyFrogg, Overlord Ubiquitious, Mordor, babygurl – a lot of people had joined and were posting. I myself had recruited only a few, whose activity quickly died out. But I had recruited Brannalbinn and that changed TWC forever – that sparked life into the community. He brought the baby up from the ground. Thanks, Chris! This was a very long story, I know. But if you took your time to read it through, you now know the true story about TWC’s creation. What inspired me, what took me to the heaven of forumming, who was a great role-model of a mod (Ash). This is all true, my friends. This is the true story of TWC’s creation. I do not think I have ever told it in such detail before – but now I have. Now people can see if any of the stuff I post in fHaG fits with the real-world experiences, because I can tell you that when I wrote some fHaG stuff – I thought about this period – since my introduction to LotR SBG, through Dragon Battalion and to Chris’ phenomenal support (at least in the beginning). When I think back, I have so many great memories of the White Counsil. Most are from the first year of its existence. I will post some of them here, as I randomly think of them:
The list is long – the list of memories that is – but I will not waste more of your time. I am just so incredibly happy about this project of mine surviving for three YEARS, when I would have been satisfied with three WEEKS of acitivty. I have had my own screw-ups. I was an idiot in the Autumn period of 2006, but it showed that TWC had attracted such strong persons that could carry my own project on – without me – I thank all who did that. I thank all who have stuck around for TWC for all those years. Time goes by fast, when you think back. I think I have evolved so much as a person, compared to back in the early days of TWC. TWC is not just a great community, where I have had a lot of fun, met a lot of new friends and improved my English writing skills – it is also a subtle timeline of my past three years, where I have evolved as a person. I thank you all for your contributions. No particular order: Pezza for making so many cool sigs (and our banner) and being such a great friend ever since Dragon Battalion, Ariakas for being such a great, helpful and will-strong mod/admin/friend, Andy for being such a great friend and saving TWC from its doom, when I was gone, Kirby for being a great and friendly mod and having such a fantastic music taste Alex for being so active and reminding me of myself, Lachlan for being such a great veteran and painter, Dylan for being reason for many discussions and eventually – FHAG, Louise for making this site seem a little less nerdy and sticking by even though most of it does not interest you, Lathaon for bringing a new dimension to the site and being good at annoying me, Rudder for being a great writer and starting the RPG, Mordus and Chadden for being so funny, James for being so controversial
, Gorfang for being an impressive newcomer, Adam for being so random and amusing, Ash for inspiring me all those years back and making the cool forum markers, Derek for being so arrogant and interesting
, and many many more – I just don’t think I have room to write about all of you! Do not think I have forgotten you! Every single post has helped TWC prevail and every active member helped it survive! Hell – I even thank Jannick and his stupid brother for spam-attacking us so that we could write FHaG stories about it and see the moderators at work! But most of all, I think I will thank Branalbinn, because without him this site would not have lasted more than three weeks. I know he has not stuck around for TWC, but he has stuck around for me and he helped me create this wonderful community! He brought us Ariakas to give a concrete example! Thank you, Chris! THANK YOU ALL FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS OF THE WHITE COUNSIL! |

Great post. But I can't believe you have associated me with the word spam. Absolutely ridiculous ![]() When I saw the topic title I was expecting to see some sort of brief thank-you post mentioning the time you made this forum and how it has evolved, I wasn't expecting this But it is a very emotional piece and certainly brougth back some memories for me, and I'm sure it will do the same to others who have been here even longer than I have!Happy birthday, TWC Here's to the past three years! And here's the the more to follow
I also just realised - TWC's birthday is exactly a week before mine

Thanks, Alex! It did turn out rather special, didn't it? Well - I had time on my hands and felt rather inspired, so I thought I would give the entire story - not TWC's entire story, but what led up to it. Should be new to everyone
And cool about the birthday thing. I also think we should have TWC birthdays from now on! So happy TWC birthday, Ariakas! About the only active man left from those who joined on the 27th Lachlan joined on the 27th I think, but the site says it's the 28th, so we wait

Hey really enjoyed that A good read and a lot of it I had heard of some I had not. It has been a rollercoaster hasnt it, but its been worth it. Can't believe its survived so long. Hahahaha. There were people missing from that list but I think they will know they were involved too and not get pissy about it. Its an achievement we can all be proud of. |

As the Prophet of Truth said in Halo 2: "There are those who said this day would never come! What are they to say now?" Glad you enjoyed it, Ogre Lad And that's why I didn't make it a list - I don't want people to feel omitted. I just wrote some people down as I came to think of them...I am sure I could write a little sentence like that to twice as many people, but it was not the point. It was just writing without thinking if you get me. Just writing thoughts down. I only got so defensive because Andy reminded me that some people MIGHT feel left out - I want them not to do so. I thank all who have contributed to TWC in one way or another! |

<3 Sunny. Congrats, man. You've done some amazing stuff over the years. Proud to know you, dude. Happy Birthday, TWC, I made you a present. A new banner. Because you are LONG overdue for a nicer, cleaner look. Hope you all like it, you don't have to use it but I think it would make the site look much classier!

Legend. Is there anyway to put the knight in it but just make him paler and white? |

That's truly a classy banner, Pezza! Damn you are good. I will put it up for the anniversary at least and then we will discuss if we will keep it on. If you can get that trademark knight of our current banner on it as Andy said - paler and subtler - it would be a great compromise, but as a anniversary banner I can not think of a better one! Pezza is still the king EDIT - I tried putting it on, but it is a wee bit too narrow. Can you make it a bit wider, Pezz? EDIT 2 - WOW! That's what I call a cool anniversary banner! We will definately keep it for now! THANKS PEZZA! YOU ROCK! |

I also think the old banner was cool, but we'll keep this one for a week or so and then have a poll about which to keep. I think both are awesome, but at the moment I really like the "3rd year" detail And thanks Adam - now go do that question thing of yours - I love it

The new one is fair cooler in design by Jonno's point about it being a little too light is well founded. A wee bit more contrast is needed IMO, but who am I to question Pezza. |

I wish I could cry... it feels fitting althought it would make me a slightly pansy... anyway...I am incredible thankful to Chris for showing me this site. I hope he pops by sometime in the future. Great post however Sunny, awesome to take your time writing something like that. You never said anything about Commissar Craig ( ), Bunny rabbit/Ironfist, Corsair incident ( ), the creation of TMTOA out of TWC, the forum alliance ( :ph43r: ), LDTTWG (sp?) and so on. And the only thing that is a proof of is that there so much else to talk about. This site creates memories of life (at least it seems like that after three years, might be different after thirty years
 )I think I have never so many smileys in one post
