I am a man of ideas, I dare say :P

Ok - I dont know about that, but last time the lightbulb above my head turned on, we got rid of those annoying archives in almost no time. I think it is time for something interesting to do again.

Ok (once more) - the concept of the work that has to be done is not even close to interesting, but the end result might be worth it.

Now - it is regarding the FHaG RPG. I was thinking the other day that finding episodes about a specific event - be it conversation, negotiation or battle can be hard in the RPG forums. Especially if you haven't followed all threads from the start. I had this problem when I had to make my RPG comeback and recently Ariakas has been telling me to read some specific threads and I have also wanted to read about specific battles and so on.

I was thinking that it would be cool if we made it easier to browse through the myriads of happenings in the RPG. I was thinking that we should have a giant RPG transcript library in the White Library website.

The point is not to have a transcript of each thread, but of specific events. I mean - there are dozens of different plots in the Thunderton topic. We have to make a site in the Library for each major plotline and then sites for each events/conversations/whatever in that plotline, making it easy to navigate through. Then we would also have a chronological index, so that one (if he/she wants) can read through the events of the White War and afterwards sort-of chronologically.

Now that's the commander's intent and the objectives. Let's talk about the execution:

Copying and pasting from the forum itself won't work that well and it does not look very well-structured with all the avatars and signatures and what-not.

So I say we use the Invisionfree Archive (Not to be confused with our "own" archives). Check it out and you will see why it is so easy to deal with.

I was thinking that all things with "double brackets" be left out so that we only take the essential stuff to the Library.

Who is up for the task? I am at least. But wanna hear any comments and suggestions before I get started!

Seems like a mammoth task. The ultimate question is this - will people use it?

HIC, I demand that you bludgeon yourself with a rock until your mental status returns to the level of a rapist who calls back to apologise! Your use of elaborate language and words is making me uneasy. Although, I am somewhat relieved to see that your punctuation remains shit-based.

Well - truth be told - I was looking at the enormous amount of text we have written in the RPG forum and I thought that those posts were some of the more refined and higher quality topics/posts, equalling true stories if they were to be collected.

So the whole thing would be a sort of back-up of this huge amount of work. I just dont wanna lose it, but it would also make the RPG into "tale form", since most rpg-posts are not pure dialogue, but also contain descriptions, thoughts and so on. We would have dozens small stories that I feel are worth collecting.

I know it seems like an insane task, but if we divide the work in a structured way, I am sure we will be able to accomplish it!

Dividing the work would be foolhardy in my opinion, some people would be more commited than others. I can give a little help but nothing incredible, I'm afraid.

More committed? People get as much as they want. It's nothing I plan we do overnight, but slowly and steadily we should get there.

Another argument: the cool thing abou the Library is the search engine and the tag system. Since the RPG holds an awesome amount of information on various characters and locations that can not be found in regular FHaG works, we would be missing out on this info when searching in the Library or using the Tag system. An example could be the Dark Council. You search on Dark Council and you will not find information as useful as the one in Ariakas' "Forest of Redham" thread.

I think it will be worth it.

No problems. I think I might give it a shot tomorrow - see if it works out. I can do this on my own anyways...will take a while, but I think it'll be worth it in the end...

I don't think I have ever even clicked on the FHAG link so this doesn't involve me.

Is that a challenge? Have you not seen the Youtube footage of me? At my family New Year's Eve party, where I mercilessly chased my four year old cousin around in a drunken rage, attempted to hit him with a plastic, illuminating lightsaber whilst yelling 'Piņata, piņata!', before tripping over my own pair of slippers and falling over, crushing the fleeing juvenile as I did so? Well, neither have I.

I'll try to help with this. Using the invisionfree archive certainly looks a lot simpler than trying to copy from here.

I doubt I'd be much help with some of the storylines which occured before I started in the rpg. But I'm sure I could be of help with the Ahm-Sheran storyline(s).

One thing I'd ask though, you mention taking out the out of character double brackets, but what about the movement tags? I'm especially thinking about times when people have posted characters leaving topics, but not put any actual roleplaying into the post. It might break up the flow for reading outside of the context of the actual rpg, but without it people will struggle to know when some characters have left or where they end up next. Maybe you've already thought of this and have a decision.

Sounds good, Gorfang. I am glad you wish to help.

Your question is a very good one, and honestly I had not thought about it before. My suggestion is that whoever copies and pastes might write a simple sentence or two, describing the departure of whichever character(s). Something like:

"Following these words, the Lord led his escort to the stables and rode off towards the tower of Weissland."

Just an idea - what do you think?

I have now started the project. The "collection" will be called Charred Marble, and here is the setup:

http://fhag.wikidot.com/charred-marble

I have not put all plots/stories yet - not even all categories - as I really would like someone who has been involved in them to at least write them on that index page (you can make page links to pages that do not yet exist) so that the plots are divided by people actually involved in them. I have done so with the ones, I am involved in.

The only "complete" section for now is the "Cleansing of the Serpent Clan" - complete meaning that all existing rpg-material of that "plotline" are now in the library. As new things are added, so will I add them to the library.

It really is nice to have them up like that and now the search engine will be able to show ALL FHAG info on various characters, locations, battles etc. and not just the "stories".

Of course - only if we get it all up there.

Yeah, that sounds like the best solution.

Looks like you've made a good start and I can see how this is working now. I'll get to work on the Ahm-Sheran section.

Sounds great, Gorfang! And I have put my "idea" to use so it works :P

It really is shitloads of text when you put all replies together like that. Those are truly story-long, I mean - we definately should get as many as possible in the library! :)

Speaking of compilations, could people please post in the thread where I asked about summaries of their character actions for the Chronology? Is it really that difficult to remember what you guys have already done?

All of the Ahm-Sheran posts so far have been added to the library. The only thing left for them is adding the page links to the index page and I can do that when Lord Sunnycool sorts out the ability for moderators to edit admins pages. I think that is the problem anyway.

So far there are six storylines for Ahm-Shere, two of which are finished. The others are all presumably continuing at some point.

Yeah - great job, Gorfang! You should really be able to add links to your pages now :D

EDIT:
I have now started on the Shiverland Crusade plotline.
