Shaellana smiled and nodded, then turned towards Mordain. "My Lord, you have faced terrible evil, but I have found something within this fortress that could be what you came here to find." She produced an amulet from her pocket. "This amulet, it was around the neck of a demonic statue below. It has the same kind of energy as your robes did, but... alone, it is not powerful enough. You will need to manipulate it." She looked to the altar. "This altar... you could utilise this altar to forge new robes." Mordain reached up slowly and took the amulet. "It is more than what you think, Shaellana. This amulet is a shape-shifter's amulet." |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Mordain looked around before pointing at one of the suits of armour that the statues had been wearing. "Marr, place that armour on the altar." Shaellana moved back to stand beside Jessa. "Now, Mordain must do what he came here to do; create a new way of controlling the demon." Once Marr had placed the armour on the altar, Mordain took the robes from the man that had cut him and threw them onto the altar as well, along with the amulet. "Stand back, all of you. This is no small task." he said. His companions did as he bid. Holding his staff in one hand, he raised it high and invoked his magic. Power erupted from the stones beneath him and struck the altar with bolt after bolt of red lightning. The armour, robes and amulet began to shake as they were lifted into the air. Magic engulfed Mordain and the altar in a swirling shroud of demonic might. Shaellana, Marr and Jessa could only stare on and listen as Mordain howled in fury behind the shroud. Shaellana could see the tremendous power being invoked by her Lord. His power was truly being tested to its limits; should he falter, he would be destroyed. With one, final surge of magical might, the shroud dissipated and a single suit of armour lay upon the altar. Mordain leaned heavily on his staff as he examind it. The armour was formed from a heavy chain mail robe, reinforced with plate over the shoulders, chest and arms. It was a dark colour; shadowy purple, almost black. The shoulder armour rose upwards with three spikes jutting from each. A hood sat at the top of the armour, with a dark, metallic crown in turn sitting upon the hood. Finally, there was a thick, wide cape draping down the back of the armour. It was a powerful sight. Mordain took time to change into the suit of armour, his companions staring on as he did so. As he placed the helmet upon his head, he could feel the demon receeding within him. The armour did as he had hoped; it controlle the beast. But then, Mordian sensed another quality of the armour. With a mere thought, he transformed the armour into robes, robes which looked all but exactly like the ones he used to wear. He could shift easily between the armour and the robes. He slowly turned towards Shaellana, having settled the armour in the form of robes. "This... this is incredible." |

Jessa smiled slightly, pleased that Lord Mordain had been able to accomplish his task. She looked around at the fortress, and shivered involuntarily. The place still radiated such malevolence. She wondered what was happening to the south, how the army was faring. |

"We should leave this place." Mordain gave one, final look at Gor's body before turning to Shaellana. "Can you find your way back through this fortress?" Shaellana nodded. "Then lead on, Shaellana." The group descended the stairs and began making their way back to the bottom of the stronghold. |

The corridors of the fortress were bare; nothing gave distinction to the walls, aside from the stones themselves. Winding down, Mordain followed the corridors with Shaellana guiding them towards the bottom. It was unnerving, to see the fortress being completely empty. After a considerable amount of walking, they were in the courtyard. Massive and impentrable, the gate stared down at them. But on this side of the gate, Mordain saw a demon's head carved into the gate's surface. He approached it, allowing the top-half of his robes to receed, revealing his demonic form. Magic crackled around him. "Open." The eyes of the carving sprung to life, looked at Mordain and then did as he commanded; the gates opened. Mordain's robes reappeared, covering him once more. Without a word to his companions, he continued walking towards the end of the cavern and back to the shrine. |

Jessa continued walking, and the strange feeling seemed to receed slightly. She checked over her shoulder a few times, but saw nothing. It was just a feeling, but the thought of something watching them seemed so real. |

The walk back to the stairs leading to the shrine was unneventful. None of them wished to speak. Gor was dead; he had been a good friend to Shaellana, and a loyal companion to Mordain. Shaellana knew, however, that she would have to mourne his passing for both herself and Mordain. As they began to climb the stairs back towards the shrine, Shaellana walked beside Jessa. "You keep looking over your shoulder, Jessa. What is it?" |

The company continued up the stairs until they finally reached the shrine. The room was dark, and when they all stood within the chamber, the path behind them vanished. The statue remained gone. Mordain still leading the way, they walked the length of the chamber and climbed the stairs to the outside world beyond. |

As Jessa walked up the stairs to leave the shrine, she could feel the change in the air. From thick and musty, almost stale air, to a fresh breeze outside. As she passed out into the outside, she breathed deeply, only now realising how different the air had been within the shrine. |

Mordain walked from the shrine into the world beyond. He took a moment to inhale one, deep breath of the free, clean air, then he turned to his companions. "We must travel, with all haste, to rejoin the army of Weissland. Marr, I will need you to travel to intercept the Az'Gor. Shaellana, you will return with me. Jessa, where will you go?" said Mordain. |

Mordain sent a jet of black fire into the air, signalling Gor's dragon. The great beast descended and its eyes washed over them, searching for her master. Shaellana approached the dragon. She ran her hand along the beast's head and whispered into her ear, speaking in a strange language. The dragon reared up and roared violently. Mordain bowed before the dragon. "We did what had to be done; Gor was lost to darkness. But now, we need your help, mighty dragon. We must reach the army of Weissland as soon as possible." The dragon controlled herself and dropped back onto all fours, lowering her form so as to allow Mordain and his companions to climb upon her back. Mordain and Shaellana mounted the dragon. They waited for Jessa to do the same. "Marr," said Mordain, "the Az'Gor will arrive from the west. Find them, tell them what has transpired and tell them to make for the realm of the Order of Light." Marr nodded and then disappeared into the trees. |
