Mordain moved on, seeing the gates come into view. He wasted no time in sprinting ahead, though pain raged throughout his body.

--Leaving Amei--
--Entering Turschen Wood--

-----

The shade of Krodalis manifested within an alley, looking down on the headless body of Kassandra. He knelt down beside her corpse.

"Such a waste. Your death will not be for nothing, Kassandra. The mortals will pay for this. I promise you."

Then he vanished in a tempest, moving across the city.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

One of the Last Guardians. Suck it.

James turned to one of the two men with him.
"Tell Ash we are heading into Turschen Wood." He looked grim. "Tell him to bring everyone." He turned again and the two men ran after Mordain, leaving one who quickly dissapeared amongst the streets.

"Should you ever feel agony for the loss of your Brothers due to enemy guns, bear through it with a stern smile and let your enemy know that you will get into combat soon enough. His judgement cannot be avoided!

Should your charge falter under heavy resistence, roar your devotion in His name and amount whatever strength you have left at one enemy point and crush it utterly! Let the enemy feel your pain by turning their's into agony!

Should you lay beaten and dying on the field, laugh with pride for even in death our enemies will fear us, leave them with a scar that will haunt them till the time of their retribution!" - Chaplain Valorus

The mercenaries had spotted their quarry leaving the city, and followed at a discreet distance.

--Leaving Amei--
--Entering Turschen Woods--

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The nameless man was blasted to the ground by the attack. As he fell to his knees he placed his hands on the ground and summoned the strength to strike back. The ground rumbled around him like an earthquake, dispersing the monks around him as they tried to remain standing when the very stone rebelled against them.

Thomas ran through the streets until he reached the inn at which they had been staying. He walked in and to their rooms, he knocked on the door and walked into Ash's room.
"There has been a development." He said darkly.

Nhazhan and Anailla sat in an alley near the outskirts of the city, far from the docks. Darkness descended and the shade of Krodalis rose from the shadows.

"Master-" began Anailla.

Krodalis cut her off with a sharp wave of his hand. "They have eluded you, both of you. They are gone from this city and you do not have the strength to give chase."

Both were silent for a time, but Nhazhan spoke first. "Our apologiess... Masster... What would you... have uss do?"

"Clearly I have underestimated our opponents. They have escaped my clutches and killed Kassandra." The shade paced around the area. "Head east for now. You need to regain your strength. When the time comes, I will call upon you to resume the chase."

"What will you do, Master?" asked Anailla.

"I am going to bring Kvahla into play. She will aid you in your search. As well as that, I will travel across the Sea of Strength to the Realm and awake two more servants; Ynnquel and V'rannak."

The pair nodded. "As you would have it, Master." said Anailla.

Laiya tried to keep her footing but could not, but as she stumbled about, she looked over at Kelan, standing firm as if nothing was going on around him, his eyes locked on the man in front of him.

The nameless man stood slowly and looked at the one monk that had remained upright. The earthquake subsided as the nameless man's eyes bore into the monk. It was always unsettling for mortals to see what looked like a statue turn in their direction.

Kelan stood strong, unwavering, even as the man stared him down.

The nameless man did not know exactly where these monks got their power. They did not use magic like other magic-users he had encountered, but neither did he. Silently the nameless man swept his arms up and moved his hands in various patterns before finally pushing his hands towards the monk palm first. Thick, black smoke filled the area like a rising fog, and the sky darkened. Clouds blotted out the sun. Then something moved in the black smoke, just a sense of quick movement.

A creature of shadow stalked through the smoke, before rushing towards the monk like a predator about to strike.

Kelan stared it down as it rushed at him, and at the last minute dodged to the side and slammed his hands into it, leaving scalding white burns all across it that began to eat away into its skin.

The nameless man watched as the creature of shadow was injured by the monk. The creature thrashed about before lunging at the monk again. And two more shadow creatures with their long talons emerged from the smoke to attack the monk.

One of the creatures moved to strike Kelan from behind, but Laiya suddenly leapt into action, running at full tilt towards the creature's back. As she ran she murmured a prayer, "Aracen, Lord of all, bless my blade. Aracen, Lord of all, aid my feet. Aracen, Lord of all, guide my hand." As she lunged at the creature, her blade came alight with a holy sheen and she screamed in fury as she swung her blade about. The blade cut cleanly through the creature, decapitating it and causing it to burst into smoke and disappear. The other monks now joined the fight as well.

As the other monks rushed to join the fight, the nameless man increased the spell with a simple wave of his hand. More creatures appeared and the smoke got thicker until the monks could no longer see each other. For each monk, two creatures moved to attack them.

Seeing that their vision was obscured, Kelan threw his hands in the air, immediately not only dispelling the smoke but filling the area with a brilliant light that blinded the creatures and allowed the monks to attack them with ease.

The nameless man used his full power, much more than these monks could hope to defeat. The smoke drifted away for a moment before returning with greater intensity. He poured more power into the shadow creatures, allowing them to see by bodyheat instead of normal sight. Two of the creatures pounced on a monk, dragging him down and tearing out his throat.

Seeing one of his monks go down, Kelan knew that this would take extreme measures. "Laiya!" he called. "Come here!" His companion rushed over, slashing through a creature as she did so. "There he is!" Kelan shouted. "Come!" The two monks prayed for a moment before beginning their assault. "Go, Laiya!" shouted Kelan as they ran, and he stopped and threw his arms in the air, beginning to pray. Laiya continued to run, a creature trying to attack as she did so, but its talons scratched across the back of her armor, doing nothing.

The nameless man moved through the pitch-black smoke as the creatures continued to attack the monks. He grabbed a monk by the robes and spun him around. The monk tried to fight him off but it was useless. The nameless man punched the monk several times in the ribs, hearing them crack under the onslaught. He then picked the monk up in his arms and swung him down towards his extended knee, breaking the monk's back over it. The nameless man tossed the corpse away as he moved on.

Kelan fell to his knees, closing his eyes and shouting out to the sky in prayer. Laiya continued to run, her breathing surprisingly easy, deep, and slow. She neared their nemesis, who had his back turned to her, and lunged at him, slashing across his back and leaving a glowing wound.

The nameless man arched his back in pain as he was struck. Growling he turned and lashed out with his fist, catching the woman who had dared to wound him with it.

Laiya spun around, falling to the ground as she was stuck, but Kelan immediately threw his hand towards her, casting a glowing energy about her as she struggled to stand up. It protected her for the moment.
