Fasten quickly scanned the streets and listened for any sound. Then he turned and entered through the door again.

"I lost them," he said, interupting the conversation between Volan and the dark elf. "They may have escaped quickly or they may still be around."

"Then our business here is done," Volan said. "Prepare for our journey Otheth, we will head to Asulien shortly. Mai Raugen, you stay here and make contact with Master Florid. He will be in your new charge in Amei while I go north. Fasten, you will head to Ordail. Things are messy there. Make sure Peter Kradensis get out. Do not bother about Doman."

"Doman?" Ash whispered, bewildered. He was annoyed that the damned Weisslendings were that cautious. What little information they grasped, however, Ash would not let it go to waste.

"James, we need to find this Master Florid. Let us not give up!" he said as he turned to his friend.

Volan nodded to the others as he turned and walked towards the backdoor. He was followed by the other dark elf, Otheth.

Mai Raugen slowly got up after the door was closed. He was still clutching his wound, and cursing with clenched teeth. Andrev came forward and helped him stand.

"That is a bad wound you got there," he big thug said. "Damned Dragons. I'm glad we're rid of them. They would have never been willing to work for the Council."

"We're not rid of them," Fasten said as he moved around, opened a few of the boxes and took out some equipment. He had hid his personal belongings in this house and would need it for the journey to Ordail.

"What do you mean?" Andrev asked.

"They may still be of use to us," Fasten. "Do you really think we have only made contact with the Dragons?"

"What do you mean?"

"Master Florid," Mai Raugen informed. " He's been a silent member for long, but he have contacts within the Serpents organization. High up here in Weissland you know. The Dark Council controls the Serpents in Kynair. You, Andrev, will help me make contact with Master Florid."

(Dont really know, we could go north to the war and see what we can find out there. Or we could sneak around to another thread in Weissland at the moment. But really not sure, following your lead in here. We could kidnap one of these guys.)

((Problem is that Ariakas probably had a very elaborate plan with all of this and now we have no way of knowing what he would have done. I think we should "fast-forward" and just say that we have found out where Fenix is and that we could start preparing the strike. What do you think?))

--Entering from Ahm-Shere--

Alisha was relieved when the Weisslanders finished their inspection of the ship and determined there was nothing dangerous aboard, because it meant she could finally disembark. After eighteen years of living in the desert, being on the open ocean for eight days had given her quite a fright, and little sleep. The first thing she noticed about Weissland was the weather; it was cool here, much cooler than Ahm-Shere ever got. Visitors to Ahm-Shere often commented on the oppression of the sun, but Alisha preferred the warmth it provided to the almost cool, unfeeling light it seemed to give here. The second thing was all the green. Even in Verdonsk, it was difficult to forget that the majority of Ahm-Shere was desert, but here, there was green in abundance. Trees lined the streets, and looking out down the coast, she could see green fields stretching out into forests. Forests; she had never seen them. The largest grouping of trees she had ever seen were the small clumps in oases, and she could only imagine what a forest must be like.

Snapping back to the present, Alisha walked down the gangplank of the ship and onto the stone dock. The docks were bustling, and Alisha realized that this was a major port city, probably a chief trading point for trade with any countries west of Weissland. People were everywhere, several of them bumping into Alisha. She stopped for a moment, startled by the influx of people. In Ahm-Shere, particularly in the desert towns such as Magreb, her home, everyone knew everyone, but here, no one said hello to anyone else. People simply hurried along, too involved in their own business to even look at the faces of the people who they passed or even bumped into. The only people who seemed to look around were the soldiers, whose heads slowly turned from side to side, taking in everything that happened.

Deciding that they were the ones who would likely know the most, Alisha approached one of them. He was wearing a heavy chainmail shirt that covered down to his thighs and to his wrists underneath a blue tunic with a red star and two green stripes running diagonally across his chest. His helmet was a barbut-style, with a a pointed top and a single piece coming down to protect his nose. In his left hand he held a shield while he leaned on the spear in his right.

"Excuse me," said Alisha, causing the soldier to turn and look at her. She could tell by the look he gave her that she immediately stood out. Here in this land of fair-skinned people, her darker, caramel-colored skin was out of place, as were her clothes, which were more utilitarian and suited to a rough life than the clothes which most people here wore.

"Can I help you?" asked the soldier.

"Yes," said Alisha. "I am wondering how to get to Ataya. I need to speak with the king."

The soldier raised an eyebrow at her. "You're not from here, are you?" he asked.

"No," said Alisha. "I am from Ahm-Shere."

The soldier nodded as if that made sense, and said, "There has been a war. Drathmor invaded from the Defiled Kingdom some time ago with an army of undead and orcs. Ataya was destroyed during the war."

Alisha suddenly got very worried. "Drathmor?" she asked. "I thought he was just a myth, a story parents told to their children!"

"Oh, he's real," said the soldier. "Or...he was."

"Was?" asked Alisha.

"Lord Castoden slew him during the siege of Asulien," said the soldier. "Our troops chased down and destroyed the rest of his army following the battle, and Lord Castoden was crowned king. That was only two days ago; we just received news yesterday by spell sphere. There was a large celebration last night; were you here?"

"I need to speak with him," said Alisha anxiously, ignoring the man's question.

"King James?" asked the soldier.

"Yes, where is he?" asked Alisha.

"Asulien, I would presume," said the soldier.

"How do I get there?" she asked.

"It's a long way across the country, over three hundred miles to the east," said the soldier.

Alisha said nothing for a moment; it would take far too long to walk, and she did not want to take another ship around the coast to get closer. The only option was a horse, but she had no money or anything useful to barter with; all she had was a small dagger hidden in her boot. "Thank you for your help," she said with a nod. She walked away, heading down the street. She knew her horse back in Ahm-Shere well, and she could push it to do a hundred miles a day for several days without killing it, but she did know of the quality of horses they had here. The ones for sale would most likely be young and powerful, but would not be trained for endurance riding. The most she could probably manage out of them was fifty or sixty miles, making the journey take around a week. Well, it was better than two or three weeks. Sighing with annoyance, she began her search for a horse.

Alisha had found her horse, a strong, dark brown mare with black hair and powerful legs. "Yes," she said quietly, petting the horse's neck. "You'll do wonderfully."

"Oh, uh, I'm sorry, that horse isn't for sale," said the owner of the stables, a tall, lanky man with stringy hair.

"Why not?" asked Alisha with a frown.

"She's being bred for the knights of Cerylia," said the man. "They only get the best, and this one's a fine one."

Alisha walked over to him and said quietly, "I need that horse."

"I'm sorry," said the man.

Alisha pressed herself up against him and whispered, "Please...you help me and I'll help you."

"Oh...uh...well," the man stammered, blushing.

"Don't be scared," said Alisha, kissing him on the cheek. "Just give me the horse and you'll get something in return."

"Uh...why don't you...uh...come inside," stuttered the man, and he turned and walked into a small building next to the stable. Alisha followed and she knew she had won. Inside, the man went in and stood awkwardly in the center of the room. Clearly he had little experience with women, and Alisha almost felt bad taking advantage of him like this.

"Not now," she said. "I need something to drink first...it's better that way."

"Oh..." said the man. "Oh, of course, I forgot..."

"Where is the wine?" she asked. "I'll get it."

"There's beer in the cabinet in the other room," said the man.

Alisha nodded. "You just make yourself comfortable." She walked into the other room, found the beer, took two glasses, and poured them. Then, into one of the glasses, she poured a pinch of white powder before carrying them out. Handing one glass to the man, she said, "Let's drink."

The man leaned his head back and drank deeply. Alisha drank slowly, watching him. She lay her glass down and pushed him onto the bed.

"Oh, wow," the man said. "I feel...dizzy..." And then a moment later his eyes closed. Several moments after that, Alisha could hear faint snoring even as she walked out of the room. He would awake in a few hours with a terrible hangover and not remembering anything that had happened, and she would be miles away on this magnificent mare.

Ash left his room in the Beast and the Harlot.

A week had passed since his and James' conversation with Volan. They had been contacted by one of their messengers since. They had received intel on Fenix' current position. It was in Ordail and Ash decided that it was time to act. It was all or nothing - they could wait no more.

He went to the Circumference, had the annoying little messenger report to Pezza and told his men that they were sailing off for Ordail in two hours. He sent Nosaree and two other Alphas to get the necessary provisions and ordered the others to prepare the ship.

James approached Ash once everyone was at work.

"We sail to Ordail. We are to meet one of Dantares' men over there, he will give us some fresh intel and then we will prepare the assassination of Fenix. Thoughts?"

Alex spoke like a machine.

"None." James was cool and calculated and this straight forward obectiveness appealed to him.
"You ready to leave?" He asked.

"Yes. We have wasted enough time in this pathetic town. I want to end this mission as soon as possible and return to the Realm." Ash said.

His dreams about establishing a new Dragon Battalion like the one in the old days, but he was trusting this Fizban less and less. Still, he would decide on that matter once Fenix had been taken care of.

--Enters from Urdo Ruins--

Nhazhan walked into the city of Amei, entering through the southern gate. His robe was wrapped tightly about his form as he walked. Guards and civilians alike were turned away from him by an unseen aura that repulsed them. He was a walking plague, an abomination of life that perverted and repelled the living.

As he passed a family moving through the streets, he stretched out a hand and lightly touched the exposed skin of the mother's arm. It was unlikely that she had felt anything, but Nhazhan had just planted the seed of his plague. The disease would spread through the city like wildfire. Born from magic, the plagues he conjured could not be cured by normal means. Stalled perhaps, but not cured. Anyone infected would live two weeks at the very most. The majority of the population, however, would only last a few days.

The creature walked into an inn. He lowered his hood and stared around at the patrons, who were paralysed by fear at the mere sight of him.

Passers by were deaf to the screams from within...

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

--Enters from Turschen Woods--

Mordain walked into Amei with his robes and shroud intact. There was no reason to reveal what he was, for hiding it would make his task all the simpler. For the time being, he and Nathaniel would have to find an inn near the docks and await the arrival of the pirate vessel.

-----

--Enters from Cindillus--

Anailla dropped down beside the inn where Nhazhan waited. Her Master had directed her. Wreathed in her white clothing and silk drape, she walked into the inn with her wings folded at her back. She was not interested in masking her presence or identity. White had always been the colour she wore, though it was a strange one considering that her skin, feathers and hair were as black as night. At her side was strapped her rune-encrusted longsword. Its blade was forged from a dark metal with a golden strip running along the middle. It had been forged countless of millenia ago, yet still boasted some of the best craftsminship and quality in the world.

"Nhazhan." said Anailla. "It has been a long time, old friend."

The creature that was Nhazhan rose from his crouching position before her and turned to face her. Around the room, Anailla could see corpses. All had been mutilated and infected with horrid things, things mortals would never have thought possible.

"The sstench of life hangss... heavily upon thiss city..." rasped Nhazhan. "But it will not... lasst..."

Anailla walked forward, admiring one of the bodies on the ground. "The Master's work cannot be delayed. He has told you of the boy?"

Nhazhan nodded.

"The Weisslanders will try to stop us." she said.

"No," said Nhazhan, shaking his head, "they will not have the... sstrength. Already my plague... sspreadss through thiss city. It will... claim every man, every women... every child. Aracen'ss misstakess... have been permitted exisstence... far too long..."

They had entered the city of Amei. Nathaniel found it was not too disimilar from Ordail, only smaller and less impressive.

As they walked, Mordain began to notice a large number of people moving... sluggishly, many clutching their stomachs, others coughing heavily and regularly. Moving further through the city, he saw groups of people huddled against walls and in alleys. Some rocked back and forth, others lay motionless with only their eyes providing any movement.

He looked back at Nathaniel. "Notice anything?"

Mordain nodded. "It's not... natural. An infection like this is far from normal." He looked around. "There are no healers, no physicians. Nothing is being done. This must be recent."
