"Your help comes at too high a price." James said quietly, "To alert the people we have come to deal with before we are after them, by angering the most powerful people in this realm."

"Should you ever feel agony for the loss of your Brothers due to enemy guns, bear through it with a stern smile and let your enemy know that you will get into combat soon enough. His judgement cannot be avoided!

Should your charge falter under heavy resistence, roar your devotion in His name and amount whatever strength you have left at one enemy point and crush it utterly! Let the enemy feel your pain by turning their's into agony!

Should you lay beaten and dying on the field, laugh with pride for even in death our enemies will fear us, leave them with a scar that will haunt them till the time of their retribution!" - Chaplain Valorus

"Of course," Volan nodded. "If you can't do it, why try it."

There was a sound of movement further inside the warehouse, possible of a door opening and closing again.

Ash wanted to kill this arrogant Elf, but perhaps that would endanger the Battalion, the Realm. Ash had no idea who this Volan was, but it was crystal clear that he was not entirely unimportant in Weissland.

Ash remained silent, waiting for something to happen. He was sure it would happen soon.

"Maybe we could keep contact," Fasten suggested, suddenly breaking the silence that he and his thug comrade had kept. "Just for future possibilities," Andrev added with a smile.

Volan turned his head halfway around, as to listen to whatever happened in the back of the warehouse. When no more sound came he spoke sharply in the dark elven tongue. Another dark elf came slowly out from the shadows, as if he did not want to come as a surprise to the two Dragons. He clearly wanted Ash and James not to be provoked by another presence.

"Lord Voland," the newcomer began. "Grobtak has fallen. Cyrush Dantares has called for you."

Before the dark elf could say anything more, Volan silenced him with a hand gesture. Then he turned back to Ash and James.

"It seems our business is over. For now."

In the northern part of the city, only a few streets away from the docks, there was a building. It was two stories tall, with a flat roof and it only had windows on the second floor. The hefty-looking stones of it's construction were an off-white colour. The building was generally unremarkable, except that it was used as the headquarters of a small group of mercenaries that operated out of the city.

The leader of these mercenaries was an elf by the name of Akeld Voraison. He was one hundred and thirty but had a great deal of experience. His father had been the previous leader of the group but had retired several years ago. The group consisted of Nacea Tserielia, a female elf of one hundred and twenty-nine, who was an expert archer. Riace Engon, a human of thirty-five, and Conainn Lionornost, an elf of one hundred and thirty-eight, both men were skilled scouts. The last two members of the group were both human and both specialised in close combat. Their names were Osevis Menikos and Pagno Koria.

Working as a close-knit group the mercenaries had their specialties but also boasted a wide range of other skills and areas of knowledge. They were not cheap, but employers got exactly what they paid for.

Akeld entered the room and sat down on a chair. The rest of the group filed into the room one after the other. They had recently returned from a successful mission and would soon decide what job to accept next. There were a couple of possibilities but the group would need to discuss them first. Akeld, as leader of the group had the last say but he valued the input of his team, especially his most trusted advisor Nacea.

--Enters from Death's Clutch--

Kassandra had heard of a group of mercenaries on her travels. She had moved quickly, by means of caravns, traders or her own powers. No one had been left alive to tell of her passing.

The group she had heard of were said to be highly skilled, even rumoured to be the best. They were loyal to rewards. That served her purposes very well.

Through back-alleys and side-streets, Kassandra moved, wreathed in black robes and a dark dress of horrifying beauty. Above all else, Kassandra relied upon her enchanting beauty and word-play to get what she wanted. Her considerable necromantic ability was a last resort, and a well hidden resort at that.

Finally, Kassandra arrived at a large building. It was blank and drew little attention. No one would think anything of it. But, she had heard that this was where she would find her mercenaries.

Kassandra opened a door at the side, entering into a bare room.

"Hello?" she called, her voice filled with weakness. Into her voice she poured a false need for help.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Akeld heard the voice in the other room. So did the others. He held up a hand and motioned towards the door. The others stood and put hands on weapons, just in case. Akeld and Riace moved to the other room, each holding the handles of daggers in sheaths at their backs. Akeld stepped into the room and saw the woman standing there. He said in a stand-offish fashion "What do you want?"

Kassandra smiled at the man. "I was told that I could find people here who would be willing to help me, for the right price, of course."

Akeld released his hold on the dagger and motioned to the other room "You were told correctly. Come in and tell us what you need help with."

She followed the man through into the second, far larger room. Her gaze passed quickly over the others in the room before resting, once more, on the man who had addressed her.

"I will be traveling to the White Realm, by... subtle means, to retrieve a man. A man I would like to see dead. What I need from you is protection, and a little muscle would do wonders for keeping this man under control."

Akeld said "That sounds acceptable. You want protection, but what sort of 'protection' does this man have?"

"None. He's in the captivity of the dark elves. I have convinced them to hand him over. It will be a simple trade, with very little risk of any danger, but it's always better to be safe than sorry."

"As long as it takes. I can pay you whatever you want when the task is complete, but that is not to say that I won't offer some money up front first." said Kassandra, fingering a pouch around her waist.

Akeld said "Very well. This sounds much more interesting than any other jobs we've got on the table. How much are you offering in advance?"

Kassandra lifted the pouch from her waist and dropped it onto the ground. She could see the delight on the mercenaries faces as its impact made an audiable thud upon impact.

"There's two hundred in there. When we reach the ship, I can get you another three hundred." She smiled at the leader. "That should cover the advanced payment, surely?"

Akeld smiled politely "That will certainly cover the advance payment. Give us a few moments to prepare our equipment and we will be ready to head for your ship. Unless of course, you would prefer us to arrive later?"

Kassandra nodded. "Yes, that would be for the best. I'll have to explain to the captain your presence." She waited a few moments, playing innocently with the edges of her cloak. "Meet me at the docks when you're ready."

She didn't wait for them to answer. She turned and left. Enough had been said.

Leaving the building, she made her way to the docks. Aside from these mercenaries, she had also enlisted a pirate crew and their ship. That was how she intended to reach the Realm.

Ash shook his head. He seemed careless of the newcomer and his message, but secretly, he made sure not to forget the details of these tidings. Grobtak, Cyrush Dantares It sounded intriguing and was definately not something the Dragons were to hear about. Ash knew what he would do, however. He would not return empty-handed to the Circumference. Eavesdropping and spying were actually Dragon Battalion skills. He made a hand signal to James, which basically said, "Spy. Conversation."

Ash sheathed his weapon and bowed to Volan. He then said, "Until we meet again, master Elf, until we meet again!" Ash's voice was clearly disappointed and there was no hint of the curiosity that was now present in his mind. Ash took one step backwards, looking at James.

Kassandra reached the docks. It was not hard to spot her vessel; the ship was slim, designed for speed above strength. It's design clearly showed it was not of the Weissland navy, but its disguise as a merchant ship was flawless.

Without hesitation, she moved towards the ship and boarded. Two of the crew, a large man, heavily built with short and rough brown hair, as well as a woman, or more of a girl to be honest, turned towards her.

"Where is Brakk?" she asked.

"Here!" boomed the captain, walking out from below deck. He advanced quickly towards her, hand held on the hilt of his sword. But, as she turned towards him, he stopped and lowered his head. "Milady, I did not know it was you."

Kassandra fixed him with a powerful gaze. "I would hope not, captain, for a man hoping to receive his full payment would not address his employer in such a manner."

The captain said nothing, somewhat dumbfounded. Kassandra had shown these pirates a far different side of her than she had the mercenaries. In time, perhaps she would tell all of them the full truth of her task, but she doubted it. There were few who would serve her Master.

"Now, we will be leaving before the sun sets. Is your ship ready?" she asked.

"Yes, milady. We await your command to depart." replied the captain.

Captain Brakk was not the largest of men, but his skill and cruelty with a blade had earned him a fearful reputation many years ago. He wore a long coat, with somewhat simple clothing; dark and ragged. He never sought to attract attention. His hair was long and ruffled, black in colour, and at his waist was his sword. For the time being, it was hidden within its sheath.

"I will not be your only passenger, Brakk. As well as you and your crew, I have enlisted a small group of mercenaries. They will be the ones coming ashore with me to retrieve the prisoner." she continued.

"But, milady-"

"But what?" snapped Kassandra. Brakk withdrew instantly. "We will leave when these mercenaries arrive."
