Nathaniel spoke, trying to keep his voice low enough that Loter could hear but others would struggle to overhear "Options. What the army should do next. Their attitude seemed rather defeatist. I counseled that fighting the undead hordes was hopeless as they claimed, that the necromancers were the true targets. I even said it might give someone the breathing room to defeat Drathmor himself. Lords Aldron and Castoden felt that was impossible, but it is how the undead have always been defeated. Lord Mordain agreed, Drathmor and his generals must be defeated. And it seems the only way to kill Drathmor, is for Lord Castoden to strike him down with his sword." |

Loter nodded, "I agree. We need to cut of the head of the hydra, one by one. We can never hope to defeat their numbers because they are never ending." He clutched his long spear tightly and frowned. "On how Drathmor is going to be dealt with, I have no idea. The feat seems to large too me despite me not witnessing him yet. But considering the might of his servants... what do you mean with Lord Castoden being the only way? Is his sword magical or destined for something like that?" |

Nathaniel nodded "According to Lord Mordain, yes, it is the only weapon which can kill Drathmor. And it takes Castoden blood to properly wield it I'd say. I wonder though, the prophecies that I have encountered have rarely been set in stone, there is always fluidity, ways of twisting a prophecy based on interpretation. I wonder, if his weapon is the only one which can kill Drathmor, perhaps other weapons can only wound Drathmor? At the very least Lord Castoden would not have to fight alone against the fiend." |

Loter looked at Nathaniel for a long time, then at his own spear and then towards Castoden further to the front. He bit his lip, deep in thought. Then he spoke with a low voice, "That time will come. If the sword was created for something like that, then the time will come when it's used for it as well. Such things tend to happen." Then he looked behind himself, "But still, I think one should be careful of talking about this. If someone as high up in rank as Ithrain fell to evil ways, then whoever else could be corrupt as well. I, for one, has never trusted anyone of the mage lords." Then he cut himself off, realized he had said too much. "I'm sorry, I hope you understand that I did not mean... that you understand what I really meant." |

Nathaniel smiled slightly "There are some who can be trusted, I could name a couple who are above reproach. But I agree, there are others who are less trustworthy. As the saying goes, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Pity the powerless as they are the ones who suffer." |

Nathaniel replied "The River of Light. I believe it will be where we make our next stand. It has to be really, if the people are to be given time to flee northwards." |

Mordain looked away, staring up at the skies above. "There was a time, James, when such a night would have inspired something within me. There was a time when I could look upon the pale glow of the moon, or watch as a simple breeze teases the grass around us, and be filled with an admiration for the beauty of this land, of this world." He turned back to James. "But no more. That was taken from me, and something else was given to me instead. The source of my hate, my rage; it is more than magic. The source lies within my very veins." His next words were low; none, save for James, could hear him. "I, Lord Castoden, am a half-breed." He waited, unsure how James would react. But it could not be kept secret, not from the Lord Castoden. There was too much at stake. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Mordain heard the question, and it brought back painful memories. He thought back to when that great beast had thrust this hate upon him, and he thought back to the research he had done. For many years, he had not known what it was that afflicted him. But he had found the answer, buried deep in legend and myth. The origins of that terrible statue were now known to him. When he spoke, his words were still hushed so that only James could hear him. "Demon." |

In a quick movement, James drew his sword and struck quickly at Mordain, stopping the blade mere milimeters from the elf's neck. "I should kill you right here, right now." |

Nearby guards moved for their weapons, but Mordain signalled for them to stop. "And what would be your justification?" he asked. |

"Really? And where is your proof, James? There is no law in Weissland against half-breeds, and I have done nothing against this land." Mordain paused. "And, unless I'm mistaken, the only one here to have turned upon their allies is you." |

James lost his restraint and brought his sword back before swinging it forward with all his might. At the last second, he twisted his wrist so that when the blade hid Mordain, it hit him with the flat edge and only knocked him down off his horse. As the elf struggled to get up, James advanced on him and pressed the tip of the blade to Mordain's throat, stopping him. "You ruined my life. You used me as a tool to meet your own ends. You have caused me more pain and suffering than you can possibly know. If you ever try to pin that on me again, I will kill you." James took a step back, sheated his sword, and walked away. |

((Suit yourself.)) Mordain rose from the ground slowly. Shaellana, Marr and a group of Seekers were standing beside him. "Arrest him." said Mordain coldly. Marr and the Seekers rushed forward and wrestled James to the ground, binding his hands quickly. He was lifted to his feet by Marr and held firm. Mordain walked up to him. "Lord or not, you will not threaten me, boy!" |

As James was wrestled to the ground, there was a general shout around the Seekers, and Peloron shouted, "Knights!" The hundred knights quickly drew their swords and closed into a circle around the half-dozen Seekers. "You will let him go," said Peloron grimly to Marr. Marr did not respond, and Peloron turned towards the rest of the army. "Lord Aldron! Milord! Halt the army! Find Darnil and and inform him that Lord Castoden has been arrested by Mordain!" Aldron did not move for a moment, seemingly contemplating whether to help Mordain or James, but then nodded and rode off. Peloron turned to Mordain and said, "You said it yoursely, Milord. You do not have the support of this army. We who have trudged through the snow, the fields, the forests, and the marshes...we have the support of this army." He motioned to James. "He has the support of this army." |

Mordain's hand began to shake as it held his staff. His free hand clenched into a fist, it too shaking with what seemed to be rage. "This is... treason, Peloron." Mordain's words were said through gritted teeth and deep breaths. |
