((Love it.)) The company kept moving as Mordain and Nathaniel pressed on with their conversation. Things were changing in Weissland, changes that Mordain did not like. "From what we have seen of them thus far, I highly doubt that they will give up their power." He sighed. "What right do they have to wield such power? They have never been law enforcement, as you correctly said, but it goes further than that. When they were seen as a part of Weissland, they were religious leaders; nothing more! They have never been an arm of this country's government. Yet now they have come from nowhere and in the blink of an eye they seem to be running Weissland. They have been heavily rewarded for their 'efforts' during the war..." Mordain spat on the ground. "They showed their faces for the tail-end of the battle of Asulien, and have been handed everything they ever wanted. We fought from the start to the end, leading convoys and armies over mammoth distances, battling back the undead every day... yet what do we have to show for it?" His contempt for the monks was rising. He found himself considering them more and more as the kidnappers of the King. It seemed to fit. They had so much to gain by such an act. Mordain chanted a few spell words. The raven atop his staff flickered before coming to life and flying north. It would carry a message to Marr, who would need to know that the Seekers had been given new priorities and additional authority. Edited by chadden, May 31 2011, 03:25 PM.

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Nathaniel said "You raise good points, my lord. Is it not strange that the King, before recent events perhaps changed his mind, had a strong mistrust of magic and yet he embraced the monks and for the most part shunned the mages? Apart from trying to make me a mage lord, something I explained was not in his power, the King did little to recognise the hard work the mages have done during the war and for so long before hand. We have lost so many, just like the Army, and the common people, we suffered through the war, while the monks lost none of their number during the war as far as I know and only made a few token appearances." He looked off at the horizon before saying "He raised one of his men up in rank to help rebuild the Weissland Army. A good decision I'd say. Rebuilding is going on apace, but from what I've heard the mage lords are leading that movement in Asulien. But each good decision seen by the wider audience is off-set in my mind by the hidden decisions known only to a few. Listening to the monks above others, not bothering to re-establish the Council of Weissland, exiling you, and now the Queen giving the monks more power. The people don't even know how much Weissland has changed behind their backs." |

The company kept moving. "It is sickening." said Mordain. "The land we fought against the Defiled Kingdom to preserve seems to by fading all the same. The King must be found if anything is going to get better. A love-sick amateur on the throne will help no one! Yet I expect that, whether responsible or not, the monks will make finding the King difficult." ((Would make more in-depth posts, but at work atm.)) |

"Indeed. I must speak with the Queen when we reach Asulien. She must see that her best chance of finding the King lies with the Seekers. I will not have my hands tied by over-zealous bureaucrats!" |

Nathaniel mused "The trail here will already be days cold, the information that Kassal has could be vital in finding the King. I believe the Queen will see reason and want the best way of finding the King. That lies with the Seekers and their skills." |

Mordain sighed heavily. "You are right, Nathaniel. It is foolish to think that we would find anything of use here. Let us make haste to Asulien. When we are close enough, we can teleport to close the distance. There is no time to waste." |

The company pressed on, as they had done for the rest of the day. There was no need for more talk until they reached Asulien. But heavy thoughts still ran through Mordain's mind, of the monks. They had, thus far, given no aid in the post-war Weissland. They had hunted him, fought amongst themselves and sat in Asulien. He needed to speak with the Queen. He had to get their influence and power lessened. It was not theirs to have, and it was not Rebecca's to give. Queen or not, Weissland's loyalty was to its King. --Leaving Ledek's Span-- --Entering Asulien-- Edited by chadden, Jun 2 2011, 02:44 PM.

--Entering from Asulien-- It was just over two days since they had left Asulien. Nathaniel had made the group keep a fast pace, only stopping to water and feed the horses, and only making camp on the second day. They had arrived in Ledek's Span a couple of hours ago and were making progress south towards the area where Kassal had indicated the camp was. Nathaniel was at the head of the column. He had dispatched two Seekers to ride ahead on either side of the small force to act as outriders. Despite the war being over, Nathaniel was not about to let his guard down and be attacked by bandits, undead or anything else. |

--Entering from Asulien-- Kassal was riding near the front of the column as well, in order to guide the men to where their campsite had been. As soon as the terrain began to look familiar, Kassal said, "This is it." On the ground were still some scattered remains of a fire where they had made camp that night. |

Nathaniel held up a hand to halt the column. He turned to the Seekers and said "Establish a perimeter." A group of Seekers broke off to do that while Nathaniel dismounted. He walked closer to the remnant of the camp, scanning the ground as he walked. |

Nathaniel continued looking around. There were no tracks left that he could see, after this long they would have been washed away. There would be no scents that hounds could pick up now even if they had them. The only chance they had was finding something belonging to the criminals, something which could be used to locate them. |

Nathaniel headed over to the rocks and began to look there. The rocks were jagged and climbed up a steep slope to form natural cover for a campsite. Unfortunately it also would have made a good point for skilled climbers to enter the camp from behind. |
