((Lol.)) The army was on the move, and about time it was, thought Mordain. He grew tired of waiting, for such time was time wasted. They needed to be moving straight for Asulien if they hoped to survive, and resting was not going to help them do that. Their foes would not rest, their foes would not tire; they would continue with their relentless, endless advance, pursuing the Weisslanders to the brink of existence if they had to. Atop his horse, Mordain rode close to the front of the colum that was stretching north from the former camp of the Weissland forces. |

Nathaniel had procured another spare horse, he only hoped this one would have better fortunes than the animal which had brought him from the pass of Kuren. Was it truly bad luck which ended their lives when he was their rider? He often wondered. More likely it was simply his path in life, going from fight to battle to duel. Or residual bad memories from the pass of Kuren clouding his skills and judgement. Constantly the spirit railed at the confines his mind put on it. But he had proved stronger than the spirit on several occassions, he remained focussed on the task at hand. He headed into the column, somewhere near the centre. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jessa Aeris had been given a horse to ride. The rush to pack up the tent and leave was like a blur to her memory, she had been woken from strange and confusing dreams. The powerful mage had taken it all in her stride though, simply getting on with what needed to be done. She rode in front section of the column, and up ahead she could see lord Mordain. --Leaving Ledek's Span (finally)-- --Entering The Northern Stretch-- |

With the vast army behind them, Urden'Hel, Kazmar'Ach, the liches and the necromancer advanced forward. The dead from the Weissland forces had been risen as new servants. The Undead Hunters had become rather formidable servants. Ahead of them lay the bridge that would carry them into the Northern Stretch. At present, the Weissland army had a good lead, but unlike the undead the living had to stop and rest eventually. "I grow tired of this chase!" roared Urden. The darkness of Kazmar'Ach moved beside Urden. "Soon... We will have them... soon..." The Dark Disciple laughed, casting a glance back at Lord Haidas still thrashing in agony upon the battle standard. "There will be far more suffering before the end." --Undead Army leaves Ledek's Span-- --Enters The Northern Stretch-- |

[Lathaon passing through] Lathaon continued north from Ataya until he passed a statue, and then later, a few more. They looked quite eerie, some of them mortal and some undead, all appearing to struggle against their prison of stone. There was a magical scent around him, one that reminded him of rot and decay. He could sense life here, but something evil. Some sort of parasite, perhaps. The statues began to become more and more sparse as he walked on, until he concluded that he had passed them by. In the clouded sky, it was difficult to see whether or not his eagle was coming, but surely it would. |

--Enters from Valoruin-- James and Kassal reached Ledek's Span and began to slow their horses. Night was falling, and they decided to rest here for the night. As they traversed the terrain, James could not help but think of the events that had transpired here a year before, when the Weissland Army was fleeing north to Asulien to make its last stand against Drathmor, harassed the whole way by the undead army. Those had been difficult times, but they had forged James into the man he was today. He and Kassal talked little as they set up their small campsite, ate quickly, and then began to take turns sleeping and keeping watch. |

Several rotations into the night, James was standing watch. There had been no movement or even sounds aside from the blustering wind all night, but James knew he could not let his guard down. All of a sudden, James heard a thundering of hooves from a single horse. He drew his sword quickly and roused Kassal, who, upon hearing the noise, immediately threw his blanket off and drew his sword. They watched as a dark shape rode towards them, carrying a torch. As it neared them, the rider slowed the horse, and James could see that the man was wearing the uniform of a soldier of Weissland, a blue talbard over heavy chainmail. Getting off his horse, the rider bowed and said, "My liege, I have been searching for you." "Why?" asked James, sheathing his sword. Kassal did the same, the threat gone. "I bear a message from Asulien," said the rider. James waited for the man to continue, and then asked, "What is it?" It was at that moment that James saw the man was looking not at them, but directly behind them. He made to look over his shoulder, but suddenly thin, strong ropes were pulled around his and Kassal's necks and pulled tight. The two men tried to struggle against their assailants, first pulling in vain against the ropes around their necks, and then desperately trying to attack their captors directly, but to no avail. Within moments, James and Kassal had both passed out, and two men in dark clothing were lowering them to the ground. Stepping out from some rocky outcroppings, a beautiful, tan-skinned woman in her early twenties with dark hair tied up tightly in a bun and dressed in earthen-colored traveling clothes bent down and put her ear against the faces of each of the downed men in turn. Satisfied that they were still breathing, she pulled out three small pouches of gold and handed one to the fake messenger and the two thugs. When they looked at her oddly, she snapped, "You get the rest when we get him to Ahm-Shere. Do not take me for a fool. One false move and I will cut his bonds and tell him you kidnapped me as well. I believe you know his reputation better than I for suggesting such a manner of capture." None of the men said anything, and the young woman smiled. Kneeling next to James and looking at him, the woman said, "Once you get to my country and meet my father, you won't be so quick to refuse your aid to Ahm-Shere, will you, King James?" Standing up, she motioned to the men, who quickly bound the unconscious James and pulled a black bag over his head. "Let's go," said the young woman. The three men lifted the King up and put him onto the messenger's horse. Then, leading the horse away, they made for their small, hidden camp which they had made after following James and Kassal for the night. There, there were three more horses, and all four captors mounted their horses and began to ride north, leaving Kassal lying unconscious on the ground. --James and Alira leaving Ledek's Span-- --Heading for the Coast-- |

Kassal awoke several hours later with a throbbing headache to find himself alone in Ledek's Span. The two horses were still there, as were all of their belongings, and he immediately knew that what he feared had come to pass: someone had kidnapped or killed the King. Not bothering to pack up anything, for he knew he had to reach Asulien as soon as possible, Kassal leapt on his horse and spurred it northeast, towards the capital. --Leaving Ledek's Span-- --Entering Asulien-- |

--Enters from Ataya-- Mordain and his company entered Ledek's Span. It was now a case of finding the spot where James and Kassal had been camping when they were ambushed. Like finding a needle in a haystack, thought Mordain. His mind, however, dwelt on what Nathaniel had said of the monks. In truth, he did not believe they could be possible of such malevolence. They were fanatical in their following of their 'god', though, so perhaps that would prove to be the root of their supposed justification. He would have to watch them very closely. And, in the back of his mind, he could not deny that he would enjoy showing them the true meaning of fear if it was indeed they who had taken the King. The massive column of refugees and soldiers on their march north to escape the encrotching horde of the Defiled Kingdom. Dark days, but even with the war over they seemed to be getting darker. --Spell Sphere from Asulien-- Another spell sphere floated down from the sky. This one, unlike the first, was unenchanted for protection from prying ears, so that Mordain and any followers would be able to hear it. As the spell sphere stopped in front of Mordain and Nathaniel, Laiya said, Lord Mordain, you told me to inform you when the Queen has made a decision. I tell you now that she has given both the Seekers and my Order full power to do whatever is necessary to find out what happened to King James. Also, Captain Kassal has been relieved of his post as Captain of the Guard and been expelled from the Guard. |

What had become of Kassal seemed like a justified response to Mordain. He had suffered the greatest failure that was available to the Royal Guard. Mordain wouldn't indulge any remorse for Kassal. But the Queen had given the Seekers full authority... Mordain doubted that Rebecca fully understood what that meant, but it mattered not. Mordain now had a job to do and a perfect means of doing it. "Very well. You may tell the Queen that the Seekers will make this their one and only priority. The King will be found. And ensure that the former Captain does not leave Asulien. I need to speak with him. Perhaps his words can give my Seekers a direction to start in." |

Once the spell sphere was gone Nathaniel said "Notice that one of the Queen's first commands is to give the monks 'full power'. Sure, she might have given the same to the Seekers but what do the monks need with such power? They are not law enforcement in Weissland. And will this increased authority be put aside when the King is found?" |
