Mordus walked in through the doorway and nodded to the others. He reajusted his leather gloves and brushed what was the beginnings of snowfall off his shoulder.

"Winter fast approaches," He interjected. "We can not tarry here long."

((I didn't think we ever specified the seasons during the war. Not that it matters because I can just blame it on Drathmor's magic :P ))

((I can't remember that being written anywhere Jimmy. But my character Ariakas stated that winter was approaching in the peace talks between Weissland and the White Realm, so it would make sense to have snow begin to fall now))

The Seeker eyed Andros suspisciously, but then went on his way.

-----

"And what of the rest of Weissland? Have you made any effort to draw reinforcements from the dwarves, or the elves? Asulien will become a tomb if we do not strengthen our army." said Mordain coldly.

-----

Urden watched as the Nathremal and Undead Hunter were turned to stone. He grinned. Walking over to the man's stone body, the Dark Disciple invoked terrible magic. Streaks of fiery power criss-crossed over the stone form, weaving dark power within it. Then, upon Urden's command, the eyes of the stone creature opened, consumed by a fiery glow.

"Mortals are so foolish, to think that they can escape the power of the Master." laughed Urden. He looked back at Haidas. "Take this wretch and bind him to my standard."

The old lord was picked from the ground by two Nathremal and carried towards the battle standard. It was a massive stake, with a crossbar fashioned two-thirds of the way up its shaft. On either side of the crossbar were long, malevolent spikes. Haidas was lifted up and his arms spread before being lashed to the crossbar, with his feet being fixed to the shaft.

"Far more useful as a trophy than an enemy." said Urden.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

Despite being unable to control his body, Xander internally appreciated Urden'Hel's mistake. Blinded by lust for power, the disciple had forgotten how easily his body had crumbled away into dust. The march would destroy his body for good and help to spread the affliction further. If the cost in undead soldiers it had taken to kill the elites of the rearguard had been too small a blow in the face of such a large army, this would deal a second blow. The powder was made from a crystal which fed on magic to grow, and most of the army was kept standing by magic.

"The Dwarves are locked away in the mountains, besieged," said Aldron. "As for the Elves, I hear they have their own problems."

Narandar arrived at last, guided by a Seeker. He bowed. "Greetings, Lord Aldron, and...?" he looked at Mordain, not recognising him in his new equipment.

Mordain turned to Narandar. "I am Lord Mordain Thaendil. Tell me, how many soldiers have you brought?"

-----

Urden'Hel grinned. "Your death? Oh no, mortal; you will not know the freedom of death, not yet."

The Dark Disciple nodded the Nathremal. They rose through the air and fixed a metal mask to Haidas's face. The mask covered his face entirely. There were no ear holes, no slits for the eyes or mouth; only two small holes beneath his nostrils to allow him to breathe. The mask bore an expression of fear and pain. And, on the inside of the mask, were many small, sharp spikes, facing inwardly to pierce the skin upon Haidas's face. As soon as the mask was strapped tightly onto him, his screams of agony began.

Lifting a metal rod, Urden channelled his power into it, super-heating one end of the pole. He handed it to a Nathremal. "Burn the mark of our Master onto his flesh."

With that said, Urden'Hel turned and walked away.

He saw the staff. "Ah, Lord Mordain. We were attacked by a pirate fleet when we crossed the Sea of Strength... Just over fifteen hundred survived, out of the five thousand, and General Rios was not among them. But a force led by Hound of the White Realm also arrived in Weissland. Now where is Lord Lathaon? Is he with the mage lords?"

"The Archmage has passed into the Plane of Death." said Mordain bitterly.

"He fell defending Ataya," said Aldron. "But that is the least of our worries now. Drathmor's army is on our heels and will likely reach us before we get to Asulien. And to complicate matters, the Lord Castoden has gone south to try to negotiate with Drathmor."

Bana was freezing as he moved through the refugees camp. He tugged his cloak tightly around himself. A strong, cold wind blew through the tents, huts and carriages. It was a grip prospect, Bana missed the fair, warm wind of Mjolnir County. This was nothing like it.

He looked to the sky, at the heavy clouds. Snow could arrive any day now he thought, but he hoped for the sake of the Weisslanders that it could be at least weeks before it did. Possible it would, possible it would not. Bana did not understand much of the weather. It did not come much snow in Mjolnir County.

He sat down on a small wooden trunk and pulled forth his water bottle. As he opened it he realized it was empty. He dropped it down and sighed, he would have to look for water. The Weisslander soldiers did not want to share food with him because they knew he was a Realmer. The refugees however were different, they had appreciated his aid when they were under attack. He had saved some of them.

A pair of thin, tiny shoes stopped before him. Bana looked up and saw they belonged to a small boy, maybe six or seven years old. The boy said nothing, only held forth a small mug. Bana received it and smelled some warm drink. The boy turned and walked away, without saying a word. Bana drank from the mug, it was a white, thick drink looking like milk but tasted like some wine. It warmed his body.

"That was my brother," a friendly voice sounded beside him. He knew that voice and liked the sound of it. It warmed more than the drink did.
Maren dropped down beside him. She laughed as she looked into the face, and Bana looked confused at her. Then she pulled forth a handkerchief and wiped of the white smear from the drink that covered the area between Bana's mouth and nose.

"Worst moustache I have ever seen," she playfully mocked him. She tilted her head and looked at him. "Or maybe you would look awfull with any moustache."

He smiled back at her. "Where do you really come from?" he asked at last, feeling he needed a conversation.

"Raquil," she responded. Her face turned sad and he understood why. He knew enough about the geography of Weissland to know that Raquil was south of Ataya.

"But how did you manage to get away," he asked.

She turned her head away from him and looked at some children playing close to one of the tents. "My brother and I were with our grandfather in Ataya. I think we are the only one from Raquil still alive," she said. She did not shed any tears, she had been emtied of tears the last days.

Bana bent forward and stroke her shoulder carefully. "I am sorry," he said.

"We are lucky," Maren nodded to herself. Then she turned her face to him and smiled once more, the warm smile which he adored more and more. "I am lucky. Thank you," then she bent forward and gave him a light kiss on the cheek. She rose, turned and walked back from where she had came.

Jessa Aeris walked through the refugee camp as she headed for her own tent. She tried not to think about what was happening to the people, what had happened to the rearguard. She had to be strong, now more than ever. Earlier she had sent a spell sphere to Marcus to warn him of what was happening. He had said he would begin plans to move his family from Koss to safety. But hopefully that would not be necessary.

Jessa kept her cloak wrapped tightly around her, the chill wind was biting at everyone.

"Well... I have spent some time thinking about how to fight undead and I came up with an idea," Narandar said. "From what I know, necromantic magic sustains the undead, does it not? If one could create a space void of magic, as I remember Lachlan of the White Realm did during the Battle of Silverton, would that not render them helpless? If so, killing the necromancers would surely be a much easier task..."

Jessa reached her tent and ducked inside. She rubbed her arms as she sat down, trying to get some warmth and feeling back from the wind. There was little she could do now, so she lay down to get some rest. Quite quickly she fell asleep and was cast into fitful dreams which were vivid and confusing.

Raising a hand to his chin, Mordain gave thought to what Narandar was saying. "Yes, that would be an effective way of dealing with them. But to create a void large enough to make any difference would be... challenging, at best. The armies of the Dark Lord are massive. We would need great power to conjur a large enough void."
