"You!" Xander bellowed as he found the disciple about to kill a mage. Without waiting for a response, he raised his hammer and charged wildly, making a massive horizontal swing at his enemy. |

"I want to know that we are going to be informed on the lands we cross. Scouts are needed, to help detect the enemy. These are dark times; every shadow could hold a servant of the Dark Lord." ----- With great speed, Urden'Hel moved back and swung his sword down to block the attack by the shaft of the hammer. He forced this new foe's weapon aside and kicked the man backwards. The fires of his form raged, rising ferociously. "You mortal creatures disgust me! So incapable of recognising when a battle cannot be won!" spat Urden. |
|
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

((Then do something to not get constant battles. Do something to buy yourself more time, the rearguard action did not work as you planned I think since it was set in motion first when the undead attacked us. A counter-attack could be an alternative, or make Mordain and Mordus just sit there alone and hold them up)) |

"Of course we will keep informed," said James. "Feies is the best cavalryman we have. His men are the eyes and ears of this army." ----------------------------------------------------------- Kelan Wealer, the head of the monks, saw a dark disciple preparing to kill a mage of Weissland, and another Weisslander charging at the disciple. Looking around, Kelan saw that the rearguard had completely disintegrated. The knights were all dead, as were the soldiers who had stood with them. Three thousand brave Weissland soldiers lay slaughtered in the mud, and now less than a dozen men fought a doomed battle against the hordes. Throwing his hand foward, Kelan sent a ball of pure white energy at the disciple, knocking the disciple to the ground in front of the charging Weisslander. The energy, however, knocked the Weisslander mage on the ground unconscious, and Kelan shouted, "Get that mage! Save him! Save as many as you can! Recover the Lord Galor's son!" The men and women blasted their way into the fray, and two grabbed Peloron's body while two more grabbed the mage. "Kelan! Lord Haidas is trapped!" shouted a woman. EDIT: ((Ariakas...a counterattack would just cause another battle, which is what I want to avoid. )) |

Xander recovered as if nothing had happened, bringing his hammer smashing down on his enemy as he was struck down by magic. "Let speaking be reserved for the living, scum," Xander snarled. |

((Yeah, but that will be easier for you to play instead of those battles involving the refugees Also which mage did you grab, I presume you meant Nathaniel since he's the kinda important one but oh well ))As the white-cloaked mages entered the fray Cyrush made quick his escape. Casting a glance towards Borsun on the ground he realized the mage might still be alive. Oh well, a crippled foe is always better than a dead foe. With that he disappeared into the dying struggle. |

((Well, first it would make 0 tactical sense because the whole point of going to Asulien is so the army won't have to fight in the open, so we'd be defeating the whole purpose by attacking Drathmor. Second, I think you misunderstood me. I'm tired of all the roleplaying being about battles and battles and battles, battles just for the sake of battles. And yeah, it was Nathaniel.)) |

From the skies, Kazmar'Ach saw the monks blasting their way through the undead. Unleashing a terrible shriek, he shot towards two of them as they picked the body of a knight from the ground. One was enfolded in a shroud of pure darkness. The other was hit by a blast of dark power. When the shroud dissipated, the monk lay on the ground as nothing but a bloodied corpse. The Disciple rose into the air, his voice echoing across the battlefield. "Nathremal... kill..." Clusters of bats filled the sky, forming into around twenty of the crimson and black-clad vampires. The creatures dropped to the ground, fending off the monks near their lord Urden'Hel. ----- Urden'Hel was hit by the man's hammer. Its force was incredible, and it dented the chest piece of his armour. Then, however, fire erupted from him, throwing everything nearby through the air. The Dark Disciple rose to his feet, glaring at the white-robed mortals. With a mighty heave, he hurled his sword through the air; it embedded itself through the chest of one of the monks. Raising his hand, he summoned his sword back to him and then head-butted his foe with the hammer. In the man's moment of disorientation, Urden cracked the butt of his sword across the man's face and threw him backwards. |

Kelan saw several of his monks be killed, and shouted, "Away!" The monks began to teleport away from the battlefield, winking out in bright flashes of light. The two monks with the mage disappeared, and Kelan was the only one remaining. He threw his hands towards Peloron, and the man's body disappeared in a flash of light. Then, after casting one look at the surrounded Haidas, Kelan disappeared as well. |

Xander felt the heat on his face, and was thrown on his back. As he got to his feet, he saw more undead approaching, but they were no zombies or skeletons. They were vampires. Holding the butt of his hammer between his feet, he pulled off the metal casing at the bottom, revealing the end of the shaft. It was like a sharp wooden stake, strengthened by a steel rod through the centre. |

The three Nathremal leapt towards the Undead Hunter leader, striking fast and visciously. ----- Kazmar'Ach dispatched one of the remaining Weisslanders. A handful stood against the undead, their moral broken. Quickly, they were lost to the sea of living dead. |

Xander was as ready as anyone. He targeted the vampire on the right, knowing he would be surrounded if he aimed for the central Nathremal. Tilting the weapon, he slammed the shaft through its heart before the other two were upon him slashing off pieces of his armour in fractions of a second and already breaking his skin. Killing undead was what Xander did best, however. Ripping out his hammer, he used it like a double-bladed sword to deflect the incoming attacks and push them back, looking for an opening in their defences. |

"James, the undead will be able to cover the distance," said Aldron. "Without the refugees we could be in Asulien in three days, but with the refugees it will take at least four, maybe more. Drathmor's vanguard will have caught up by then." James nodded grimly. "I guess you're right; I wouldn't know." "We should prepare another rearguard," said Aldron. "Tell General Patrions to ready his troops to defend the rear of the army if we are attacked again." "Is this how it's gonna be all the way to Asulien?" asked James. "Throwing men behind us to be thorns in Drathmor's side while we save ourselves?" "They are sacrificing themselves to save Weissland," said Aldron. James shook his head. "Look around you, Milord. Every man you send to hold off Drathmor is a man we don't have to defend Asulien. A man we don't have for our final stand." "If we don't send those men to hold Drathmor off, we will never get to Asulien," replied Aldron. James breathed heavily through his nose for a moment, staring at Aldron, and then turned and marched off, leaving Aldron and Mordain there. |

When Lord Castoden was gone, Mordain turned to Aldron. "He loves his soldiers; shame, that such a quality can lead to both strength and weakness." ----- Urden'Hel and Kazmar'Ach watched as the Undead Hunter fought valiantly against the Nathremal. He was the last of the Weissland defenders; the rest lay dead upon the ground. Urden walked forward. "Foolish mortal. You stand alone. Your people have abandonned you." |

James sought out Darnil and found his Lieutenant walking with a contingent of soldiers who had fought with them in the White Realm. "My lord?" asked Darnil as James approached. "Can we talk, Darnil?" asked James. "Certainly, Milord," said Darnil, breaking off from the group. When the two were some distance away, James said, "Aldron is going to set up another rearguard action to delay Drathmor's forces." "Yes," said Darnil. "They will catch up probably before we reach Asulien." "I don't like sending men back there to intentionally die," said James. "You saw what happened with...with Peloron." James fell quiet. "He was a good soldier," said Darnil. "A good officer." "He was a good friend," said James, looking down. "I'm not going to send any more of my soldiers, officers, or friends to die, just so we can live." "Milord, war is more than hard numbers," said Darnil. "Surely you know that. You know what a single man can do. There are certain lives in this army that are more valuable to Weissland than others." James looked up at him in shock. "Please tell me you don't believe that." "It's the truth, Milord," said Darnil, though James could see it was a truth Darnil did not enjoy. "If men were given the choice to save me or you, we both know who they would choose, and we know why," said Darnil. "The men we send to fight the rearguard are soldiers, officers, and friends, but they fight and die so that the rest of Weissland can survive just that much longer, to give us hope for victory in the end." James shook his head. "This is all so wrong." He turned and walked away. |

"Abandoned me?" Xander said, knocking back one vampire with the head of his hammer and piercing another with the butt. "I chose to be here," he said loudly, swinging his hammer around again, clearing the ground around him. "I came here to destroy the likes of you," he said, pushing his way forward. "While I still stand, fear me!" Xander moved his weapon in an odd way, and something clicked out of place. Then he swung it forward in a great arc, sending the pointed half of the hammer's head flying into Urden'Hel's chest. Then the spell within the hammer was released and a stream of flame erupted from the top of the shaft, spraying out in all directions. Xander turned around, showering all of the undead around him with the magical fire which stuck to them and continued to burn. |

((Just so you know, Kern says this forum loves men. Enjoy.)) Undead crumbled beneath the fire as it sprayed across them. Urden was knockd back by the force of the attack. Two Nathremal dropped down behind the hunter. Moving swiftly, the vampires grabbed his arms, cast his weapon from his grasp and forced him to his knees before Kazmar'Ach and Urden'Hel. Then, without a moment of hesitation, one of them drove a dagger deep into the man's side, between his ribs and waist. Urden stood before the Weisslander. "Fear you? Are you so arrogant? Do you honestly believe that I could ever fear the likes of you? You are pathetic." ----- Mordain watched as the second army emerged from the west, joining with the colum moving north. "The remnants..." He called a Seeker to him. "Find the commanding officer of that force. I will need to speak with them." ((Also, is Borsun dead?)) |
