Karte rose from his chair, "Very well. Then I'll see to the Realmers." He gestured to Sindi, "Sindi here will show you the way out and escort you out of city." |

Jarlson smiled and followed his lead, the agent coming behind him. |

Sindri led the Agent and Jarlson out of the room and building into daylight again. He went with them to the edge of the large town. ---------------------------------------------------------- Shortly thereafter Karte entered the prison cells where the two Realmers had been brought. Six dwarfs surrounded a huge tall man, dressed in leather armor and wearing a brown cloak. The sign of Mjolnir was marked into the leather of his armor. The man looked calm, though his thick arms and powerful bulk looked threatening. The other man sat on the floor clad in a long brown cloak as the warrior was. His cloak was far more filthy and dirty though, and the man seemed to have a crooked back. His hair was a difuse mix of brown and grey growing over his hair, and his skin seemed streched. He breathed heavily. The dwarfs standing guard seemed to be more weary about him than the warrior. Another dwarven offiser showed Karte the weapons they had taken from the two Realmers. There was a large axe and a hammer. "Both were taken from the warrior," the dwarf said. "The other was unarmed." |

The two of them thanked Sindri and headed back towards Meiroi Wood. [Leaving Dwarac, heading for Northern Meiroi Wood] |

Karte picked up the axe and studied it for a while. Then he shifted his grip on it as he slowly walked up to the warrior. The man ranked almost three feet above him but Karte made it seem like they were the same height. "Considering the order of which you're part of I take it you will most likely not cooperate if forced to so I will try and make this easy for you," Karte said. "There's no point in us harming you unless you give us a reason to. Peace has been settled and I'm sure that no matter what you have been doing here there can be an explanation for it. So please, tell me you're just trying to get home." The man grinned towards the dwarf. Karte lifted an eyebrow. "What is your name big one," he asked. "My name is Ranorist Chrasto, of the Mjolnir Order," the man said. "And I want to talk to Toulac Axehand, or his son." Karte turned to the other dwarven offiser in the room. "I must ask you to take the men and leave the room. Bolt the door if you do not trust me." "But, captain..." "Get out now. It is an order." The other dwarfs switly nodded and beckoned the other dwarves to follow him. They slowly complied, watching Ranorist intently as he left the room. Karte turned to Ranorist first when the door was shut and locked. "How do you know Toulac Axehand?" "I do not, however we have fellow associates," Ranorist answered in his deep barytone voice. "Who is that then?" Karte asked suspiciously. "Fizban Dantares" |

Karte nodded. "You know him," Ranorist asked. The other, filthy and seemingly crazed, men on the floor looked up and seemed to pay attention to the debate. Karte shook his head, "No. I met him once," he sighed. "I knew his father though. Kain Dantares. A good man, a shame how his son turned out." Ranorist looked at the door then back at Karte, his eyebrows twitched. "You should be careful speaking to much in that direction." Karte chuckled, "Of course I should." He walked across the room and sat down on the bench. "I guess this means I must be forced to help you." "Why do you say that?" "I swore an oath," Karte said. When he noticed Ranorist quizzical look, he shrugged. "I am sure you must have swore an oath as well. It was to his father, I don't want to talk to much about it." "So, what of Toulac then?" Ranorist asked. "He's not here." "Told you so," the poorly dressed man on the floor spat. Ranorist ignored him and gestured to Karte to continue. "He was forced to leave Ataya. Lord Halder covered for him in a week, then he had to leave Weissland as well. This is secrecy however, but I'm certain you would want to protect Toulac as well." "Where did he go then?" Ranorist asked. "Most likely to the White Realm. He had friends there." "Who?" "That I can't say," Karte responded. "Not because I wont, but because I don't know." Ranorist sighed. The man on the floor chuckled. "Shut up," Ranorist snapped at him. Karte frowned, and as the the man on the ground turned his head around and let his fingers ran across one of the wall, slightly scratching into it, he nodded towards him like in a unmentioned question. Ranorist shrugged, "His name is Cloudwulfe." The man named Cloudwulfe chuckled again. "What of his son then?" Karte shook his head, unsure on what to say. "As far as I know, Toulac Axehand does not have, nor ever had, a son." |

Ranorist could not understand this. Ariakas had told him otherwise, and Ariakas did not make those kind of mistakes. But maybe there was a reason for this Karte-fellow not knowing. "Then I don't what I should do," Ranorist asked. "The plan was to meet up with the rest of my companions in Ataya, and from there plan what we should do." Karte nodded slowly, "Well, I think the only thing I can do now is to help you out of the city. I will talk with my lord and figure something up. Don't worry, there will be no fuzz. I'm a trusted dwarf after all." [[Later on, Ranorist and Cloudwulfe leaves Dwarac]] |

Karte and his dwarven soldiers made good speed back to Dwarac. Couriers were already on their way all over Daulinen. The dwarven realm would make themselves ready for war. The evening the same day that Karte returned he stood in the Grand Hall of Lord Halder of Dwarac. With them stood also the captains Maugen and Svort, the smithlord Jarn Hammerblow and the dwarven elder Enerben. Lord Halder gestured towards the map to his officers and advisors. "The flanking position is indeed both crucial and worthy Karte Angrimsson, just as you told Mordain Thaendil." "Maybe so," Captain Svort spoke. "But there is more to this my lord. If we are to flank we have to attack. If Drathmor's forces launches themselves against us full-strength it may be that we do not have the ability to summon sufficent strength to muster such a counter-attack." "Correct," Lord Halder nodded to the other dwarf. "We need to prepare ourself for the worst. Enerben, old friend?" The dwarf with the long, white beard which streched all the way to the ground nodded with a smile. His face was wrinkly, but his eyes still held power and wisdom. "Yorein is not capable of holding for long. It is the weakest of all the dwarf holds, and the citizens should retreat quickly back to Dunane. Without doubt both Lord Durgon and Lord Julen understands this. Dunane is large and cold hold for long." "What of us?" Captain Maugen asked, his hands clasped together on his belly. "We are the ones who need to see to the counter attack," Captain Svort said. "This could either be at the Valley of Fargon if we get aid from other forces. If we held it for long we could cut off the forces of undead, and let the combined forces of Asulien and Dwarac hit their northern forces between the hammer and anvil." "Agreed," Lord Halder said. "And the other Captain Karte?" "We could move through the passes, and the old mines that are still open and navigate through the mountains and enter on the other side close to Fireath. If we received aid from Lathor we could then move in a sweeping move around the thick Soveir Forest and the mountains towards Asulien." Lord Halder turned to the smithlord. Jarn Hammerblow had the shortest beard among the dwarves, but a smith working at hot mines and over melting iron could not have a long beard interfering with his work. "We have enough food. And enough weapons and armor for every dwarf which marches to war, unless Lord Eben of Daurco and Daulinen sends unusually many reinforcements." Lord Halder smiled, but the elder Enerben did not. "That might be necessary," the old dwarf said. "First of all we need to see that Dwarac and Dunane survives on their own, and that might be the most difficult task the people of Daulinen has ever engaged in. I give prophesies rarely my friends, but I'm telling you, dark times are ahead of us. And in them, not much but blood, tears, losses and carnage." |
