"I could," the agent replied "but I'd rather you have no name to tell when you give Mordain your report. Assuming you want us to let you go, that is."

"You expect me to take your word for it?" He frowned. "A name is not neccessary, but I need to see something to prove you are of Weissland alliegance."
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

((Well I'm very tempted to make a post which ties in to a certain post of yours in the alphabet game, but I'll resist...))

"It sounds to me like you've already decided to cooperate, suggesting Weissland over Mordain," the agent said "but I can't give you any such evidence until you make your choice. If you want to go free, hand over the orders and we will allow it. Otherwise, we will hold you captive until it is too late for you to stop the altered orders from being carried out. Or, you could resist and in that case I'm afraid you will not live to see tomorrow."

The Seeker remained silent for a time, thinking it over. Finally, he held out the letter towards the agent.

The agent took it and pocketed it, quickly checking the seal to make sure it was indeed the right letter.

"Thank you," he said. "Now, I suggest you return to your lord. My leader might contact him shortly."

The Seeker nodded. "Very good. I will return to Lord Mordain, and tell him what has transpired here."

Having no need to remain blocking the road, the force returned to their camp to the west. Elandir had insisted that Ainhir tend to Arhaina immediately. The healer muttered something about his age but complied after receiving a stern look from the mercenary leader.

Ainhir was a strange old man who claimed to be a nobleman, though his lifestyle and belongings seemed to contradict this. One thing was for sure, however - he was a good healer and for that, he was a valuable friend of the organisation. Elandir had never been able to find any sense in his ramblings on the matter, but his skills became apparant when he put them into practise.

He held up Arhaina's face to the light and touched his fingertips to her forehead, feeling her temperature and her greyed skin. Elandir watched curiously as he grumbled words in what sounded like a random jumble and moved her head in different positions. Before long, it became apparant that she was awake, her eyelids twitching slightly, refusing to open to the glaring sun. Ainhir's face suddenly lit up excitedly. He had always shown a great passion for his job once he got started, despite his initial reluctance to do anything.

Ainhir shook her gently until she forcefully opened her eyes and looked at him.

"How are you feeling?" he said immediately, thrusting the question upon her tired mind. She took a moment to think before she replied, blinking several times.

"I feel... tired and weak," she said quietly. Ainhir looked pleased before she covered her eyes in her hands.

"I can't see clearly," she said, rubbing her eyes. "I keep getting strange feelings as well, as if I ought to feel a certain way. Like, I can sense it but not feel it... It's pain, I think... and worry."

Arhaina's voice seemed to get quieter as she finished the sentence and then she just fell into slumber once more. Elandir was on his feet and Ainhir's face seemed to have gained a great deal more wrinkles in that short amount of time.

"What is it?" he asked impatiently. It was more of a demand than a question. "What's wrong with her?"

"Don't rush me!" Ainhir grumbled angrily, shaking his head. "I need more time, and some peace and quiet would be good too."

Elandir agreed to leave the healer to his task while he spoke to Vrack in the near vicinity. Vrack finished his explanation of the situation, during which Elandir had listened intently and without comment, before Zach and the agent returned with the men they had taken. Elandir concluded that he would need to meet Ulrin soon, but seemed irritated at the lack of word from Jarlson and the other agent, who had not yet returned.

((Will finish later...))

--Entering From Ledek's Span--

Atop the back of Gor's dragon, Mordain rode, in the company of Shaellana, Brae, Marr and Gor himself. They had been travelling for only a short amount of time by the speed of a dragon's wings.

Suddenly, Shaellana dropped her gaze low and pointed to the woods below. "Down there, I can see creatures; men and women of Weissland. One of them has been cursed." She tapped Gor to get his attention. "Take us lower, but keep your wits about you. We do not know how they will react."

The scouts saw the dragon too, and a panic spread to the camp. Every soldier was brought outside and ordered to arm his crossbow or one of the bolt throwers and fire at will once the beast came into view.

"Take cover and defend Arhaina with your life if need be!" Elandir said to the old man, rushing out nearer the edge. He suddenly realised how vulnerable they were in the woods, even if they killed the dragon. "A shot through the mouth will kill it," he said to some of the men with the bolt throwers. At least they were spread out well enough...

The dragon dropped lower and both bolts and arrows were fired, though Gor's dragon was quick. It managed to avoid the majority of the projectiles, though the edge of its right wing was hit.

Mordain snarled and allowed himself to fall from the dragon, spreading his own, demonic wings and making his way towards the assailants in a burst of speed.

"Elandir?" said Shaellana in surprise.

Mordain spotted Elandir quickly. He rocketed towards the elf and gripped his throat, carrying him a good twenty feet into the air. "Elandir, have your men stand down. Now!"

Elandir stared in horror at Mordain's true form for a moment and then drew a dagger with his left hand, slashing desperately at him. "Put me down, demon!" he managed to say.

Mordain released Elandir and descended quickly, grabbing hold of the man again as he fell, stopping him less than two feet from the ground.

"Myself and my companions mean you no harm, Elandir. Stand down!" his voice was firm as he spoke. Clearly, he had little patience.

Vrack came running. "Elandir's in trouble!" he yelled at the nearby soldiers. "To me!"

"Who are you?!" Elandir said.

Turning, Mordain waved his hand, tearing the ground apart nearby and discouraging Elandir's men from intervening.

He turned back to Elandir and leaned close, their faces barely inches apart. "I am Mordain Thaendil."

Elandir looked at him in disbelief, then he realised it actually made sense.

"Hold your fire," he said, and Vrack relayed the order.

Mordain released Elandir, allowing him to drop to the ground. He signalled to Shaellana.

"Gor, take us down there." she said.

The dragon began its descent.

Mordain went silent, saying nothing. He simply stood, holding his staff, and waiting for Elandir to speak.

Elandir stood up and faced Mordain, still holding the dagger.

"I... I lost myself, to darkness." He held up his arm. "This transformation took place long ago, Elandir, yet I have managed to control it, until today. The demon within me took control."
