Mordus stood watching from the top of the Mystic Tower as the siluette of Mordain and his dragon swooped towards the base of the tower. The unbearable waiting must surely come to a close now he thought. He paused to think before going but was disuaded as each second seemed like a year. He'd not slept all night and his eyes were looking more gaunt than ever.

Somehow he felt empty, each breath a mere action, each turn of the head a wasted motion. He shuddered, not quite sure why, and finaly left his lone vigil. Perhaps leaving less intact than before.

"Rios has yet to return from the Realm. Drairan has been left behind as an ambassador, in exchange for Loremaster Ariakas." Mordain's gaze grew heavier. "Yet you have not answered my question, Haidas; how many more have yet to arrive?"
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

"I have not received replies from any other council members as of yet. I would expect perhaps one or two more will turn up before Lord Lathaon."

Mordus, aware of his lateness, sped up as he negotiated the myriad of spiraling stairs, a flash to passers by and studying scholars.
He approached the council chambers only to find them barred shut. The guards responded to his appearance and made to open the great doors but he did not slow down and headed straight for them. A mere inch from colliding with the hard wooden surface he vanished into nothingness, replaced by a cloud of black smoke, strangely alive andseemingly embracing the door. An instant later it exuded itself right through the door and Mordus reformed on the other side.

He shook his head before gazing around the chambers. Noticing the assembled figureheads.

"Very good." Without another word, or waiting to give Haidas a chance to speak, Mordain walked over to Arhaina. "How has this war treated you, Arhaina?"

"I would rather have fought, Mordain, though the war was a bad idea in the first place," she replied.

"You know that Lathaon would have worried about you should he have allowed you to fight." Mordain's voice remained calm as he spoke. He had always had a good relationship with Arhaina.

"And as for the war, it would seem it was all an elaborate trap that we fell into to. I fear we are soon to pay the price for our mistake."

Mordus noded at Mithrandar and glanced at Haidas as he passes them by, both engaged in converse with the other.

He made his way to Mordain who stood, back turned, talking to Arhaina. Mordus had met her but by no means did the aquaintance exceed anything cordial.

He made to interrupt them.

"My Lord," He said with the now all too exhaused curtesy. The words had to be forced out and he could not help but say them somewhat contemptuously. "I hope we find you're self and the Archemage in good health." He reviled himself for the last words.

Mordain turned to Mordus slowly. "No worse than we were when we set out, Mordus. Report; what has transpired that I do not know of?"

"I have sent word with Loter to hold the Great Wall at all costs. Ataya is not yet prepared and the militia is only slowly being assembled." He paused with a sudden doubt but continued.
"The garrison may not survive." He fell silent.

"If our worst fears are true, then I cannot see it holding." As he said this, he kept his voice low; it was information he would only trust Mordus with, for the moment.

Mordus' brow grew heavy with concern. Many lives had been shed to spare Ataya and many more would be. He might not even survive himself.

" What is our priority for the mo-" He was cut short by the sound of the doors opening and a messenger, clothes torn and limbs bleeding, entered the chamber with great haste. Everyone turned to look at him as he made his way to Mordain and Mordus, fear palpible in his eyes. He limped to a halt and managed a feeble salute before speaking.

"M-My Lords...Kuren!" His chest heaved with the effort. "They came in the night...we could - could...nothing..." The man fell to his knees and sobbed uncontrollably, tears mingled with blood and sweat. The chamber was silent, all conversation stopped.

Mordus stood still. Unable to react. Face blank with expression.

Mordain looked from the messenger to Mordus. His head rose to gaze around the room.

"All of you, out, now! I will summon you once more when ready." said Mordain, his voice deep and booming.

The council members left the room, many shooting him cold glances and talking in hushed voices. Fools. Mordain turned to the messenger. Raising his staff, he spoke words of healing magic. It was a quick spell that eased the man's wounds, allowing him to speak.

"Tell me your tale, messenger. What attacked Kuren?" asked Mordain.

The man breathed heavily, fear and sorrow in his eyes, tears still seeping from his eyes. "They were... they were dead... but alive! And their l-leader..." The man was suddenly lost in mind, fear consuming him. He just froze, unable to speak or move.

Mordain turned to Mordus. "We must go to Kuren at once, or would you prefer to do this alone?"

Mordus turned his gaze to the marble floor. He felt fear crawl slowly over him, emminating from his gut and creeping under his skin. His eyes widened and everything seemed to slow to a halt. Every movement, every blink of an eye and slight of hand weighed down.

"No," He said. Voice devoid of even the slightest humanity. "I will go alone."

The words chilled the room to the core.

He stared straight ahead, paying no attention to any of the lords, completely shut off in his state, and walked silently out of sight. Not knowing, but dreading to the pit of his soul what he would find.
