Silence. It was like a music all of its own. Kor'Mor'Oka breathed the air, taking in the scents of the city. He smiled slyly as he noticed the greatest scent within the grand city of Ataya was death. The thick cloying smell of dead bodies, not only of his rotting comrades held together by nercromantic forces, but of the freshly deceased and now raised Weisslanders.

The vampire walked through the empty streets, basking in the splendour which was the broken city. He passed a large building, and looked up to its high spire. Still impaled on the spire was the bloody body of the mage lord he had slain in the battle. Her blood, or at least what blood Kor'Mor'Oka had left her from his feast, had run down the spire, staining it. Now the blood was dry and slowly flaking away in the wind. The vampire thought, this is such a fitting monument to the downfall of Weissland. This is art.

He beat his grey and obsidian coloured wings, rising slowly into the air until he hovered near to the body. He whispered softly "You were just the beginning my dear. There will be so many more to join us, to sing the final song. A choir of death, a cacophony of blood. Such a joyous song." Kor'Mor'Oka brushed the cheek of the dead Sergares with his talon, almost lovingly and gently. He smiled, his lips curving wickedly as he said "I think it is time I prepared myself for the requiem to begin."

Elandir's spell sphere, which mimicked that of Ithrain, descended from the clouds. It flew over the blackened husks of housetops, heading for the wall, not sensing the terrible stench of death.

Drathmor sat in the Mystic Tower. He listened as an orc reported on Narak'Phel's progress in the east. But then he felt something, just a faint tickling of his sense. He dismissed it as nothing.

The spell sphere dropped further down, seeing the ethereal form ahead. It was still some distance away, but it had turned almost black. There was something spread on the ground nearby. The spell sphere continued to move closer.

Dumbly, the undead guards surrounding the incorporeal Archmage turned their heads to stare at the floating orb of magic. Their necromancer master was quick to realise what this was.

"A spell sphere?" he said. He turned to some of the nearby living soldiers. "Inform the Master that a spell sphere approaches!"

Elandir heard the command and knew that he had little time. He focussed, making the spell sphere produce not words but a piercing high-pitched screech.

He was close now. He could see the liquid below. It was blood - material blood - mostly clotted. A tiny bead moved down from the archmage's head.

The ethereal form had darkened. His body was still fixed, mouth opened and arm extended as he cast his spell, eyes staring at his absent foe. Now, though, it was difficult to distinguish him as a friend.

A swirling vortex of shadow engulfed the area, the Dark Lord stepping from the wall of shadow. He raised his hand and clenched it into a fist, foul magic rocketing from his grip. The spell sphere was held in an aura of dark magic. Drathmor used the spell sphere as a link to the caster and channelled terrible power into the man's mind, this 'Elandir' that Ithrain had told him of.

"You pathetic creature!" said Drathmor. "Did you really think you could come here without me knowing?"

He intensified his power, throwing raw agony into his foe.

Drathmor withdrew his power and allowed the vortex to dissipate. He looked at the spectral form of the Archmage, and the blood surrounding him.

"That spell sphere came from the north, in Meiroi wood. Dispatch a force to deal with the caster." said the Dark Lord to the nearby necromancer.

The underling bowed. "Of course, Master."

Turning his head to the sky, the Dark Lord pondered the progress of Urden'Hel's force.

Back in the Mystic Tower, Drathmor stood alone in the throne chamber, deep in meditation. His mind moved freely across Weissland. All south of Ataya had been crushed, and the living were being eradicated northwards. His foothold in Weissland was strong. But then, his mind pased over Endral, and...

The Dark Lord's eyes snapped open. He summoned guards to the room. "Bring me the vampire Kor'Mor'Oka. I have a task for him."

Kor'Mor'Oka stood in the abandoned building he had selected as his lair. It was strewn with furniture and belongings and debris. He was standing infront of a desk. Slowly the vampire looked down at the desk and the large object which lay there. Kor'Mor'Oka picked up the gauntlet and slipped it onto his left hand, flexing slightly. The metal gauntlet covered his forearm and hand, with many interlocking lames of dull-coloured metal which moved and flexed along with the movements of his hand. As the metal ran up and covered his fingers, it stopped, with openings which revealed his talons perfectly with no space around the metal and the razor-sharp claw.

He looked at the gauntleted hand, moving the fingers slowly, simply watching the movement. He had waited a long time to use the gauntlet again. There was no magic to it, no real power. He did not need that. The tactile feeling of smashing enemies with the metal and shredding them with his talons was more than enough for his needs.

A few moments later, several guards entered his lair. One said "The Master wants to see you."

Silently Kor'Mor'Oka turned and walked out of the lair ahead of the guards, smiling wickedly.

As he walked into the throne room, Kor'Mor'Oka walked towards Drathmor, and sweeping his wings out like a cloak, he dropped to one knee and bowed. Kor'Mor'Oka spoke "My Master."

Drathmor waved the guards from the room, leaving only himself and the vampire. "Kor'Mor'Oka; I have seen something of great power within the city of Endral. A book, a tome of ancient knowledge." The Dark Lord leaned forward on his throne. "I want that tome, vampire. Bring it to me."

Kor'Mor'Oka stood up and said "Of course my Master. I will go to Endral at once. The book will be yours."

He turned and walked out of the throne room. Leaving the tower, the vampire shook out his wings to their full wingspan. With a loud flapping sound, he took to the air and sped northward to the city of Endral.

Once the vampire had left, Moarbrek phased into existence beside his Master. He knelt.

"My Lord, should you really trust this to a mere vampire?" asked the Lich Lord.

"You sensed it too then, my servant?"

Moarbrek nodded.

Drathmor turned to his general before continuing. "That vampire is loyal and skilled, but not amongst my higher ranks. I cannot let him know that I have become aware of his operations. The vampire will succeed, for he has the element of surpirse."

--Entering from Endral--

Kor'Mor'Oka had made good time, managing to return to Ataya without needing to make detours to feed. He landed lightly in front of the tower and walked inside. Heading up the stairs he made his way to the throne room where Drathmor would be.

As guards opened the door, Kor'Mor'Oka folded his wings back and entered, walking towards his Master.

Drathmor sat upon the throne of Weissland, still. He had been deep in thought for some time; he had yet to hear word of success from Urden'Hel. The Weisslanders were making the war tricky, now. He had little patience for such.

The Dark Lord looked to the vampire as he entered the throne chamber. "Kor'Mor'Oka; have you brought me the book?"

Kor'Mor'Oka stepped forward and produced the book. He said "I have the book for you Master. But there seems to be more to this than just the book. There was a... voice."

"Nothing but the ramblings of ancient sorcerers. You would do well, my servant, to put such memories out of your mind." Drathmor gestured to an orc guard. The orc walked forward, hand outstretched. "Give the book to him, Kor'Mor'Oka."

-----

Power skittered around the room as a strange, ominous presence washed over the city. Whispers darted through the vampire's mind, whispers of power...

Kor'Mor'Oka hesitated for a second, as if his arm did not want to respond to the impulses of his undead brain. Then finally, with an effort and sound of exasperation he handed the book to the orc. He said "You are right my Master. An ancient voice, but there is more to it I think. When I fought with the one who was with the book, some servant of the Dark Council, he had been given great magical power by the book. But it seemed to me that the power was granted by the voice, not necessarily by the book itself. Regardless the mortal creature is dead, and the power was gone."
