Mordain nodded. "Very good." No more words came to his lips. The battle had left him weakened and drained. And the concentration he had to keep up just to prevent Naxtia's orb from being sensed by Drathmor continued to dwindle his strength. But he could not allow such a powerful item to fall into the hands of the enemy. Leaning heavily on his staff, he turned to Shaellana. "Find a horse and bring it here. I... I need to rest, in one way or another." |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Mordus walked away to tend to his dragon, casting what restorative magic he knew on the drake whilst the troops prepared to depart. Draicha was in flying condition once again by the time the troops started moving along the northern road in snaking columns. Mordain sat slumped upon a horse with the majority of Weisslands officials in towe, not to mention a large retinue of Seekers, including Marr, Brae and Shaellana. He mounted and spurred the drake into a gentle ascent, circling the moving troops once he had gained altitude. --Leaves Ataya-- --Enters Ledek's Span-- ((Not officialy named on the Weissland map but it seems appropriate if you'd care to take a look. Its on the Kuren river just north of Ataya.)) --Troops Leave Ataya-- --Troops Enter Ledek's Span-- ((I just saved us three days worth of RPing )) |

Mordain cast a weary glance back at Ataya as he held Naxxtia's orb beneath his robes. Why had Lathaon done that to himself? Mordain thought it too big a sacrifice to make. Lathaon was the Archmage; the people looked to him for hope and for a future. Without him, hope would fade. He turned back to the journey ahead. --Leaving Ataya-- --Entering Ledek's Span-- |

Elandir looked up, seeing Lathaon's eagle circling high above. He wasn't sure how to call it, but it spotted them anyway and dived downwards, wings only just missing the nearby buildings as it landed abruptly. It was looking at Arhaina though, not Elandir. He didn't quite know what to do, so he cautiously approached. The eagle moved its head in what seemed to be an angry way, so the elf stopped. The eagle was standing up tall, not lowering its body as he had seen them do before. It took a step towards them. Arhaina stirred. She looked almost like an undead, the colour gone from her skin and hair. She seemed confused, wondering where she was and who was carrying her. As if in response to her movement, the eagle took another determined step forward and made a hushed shriek. "Arhaina, what do I do?" he whispered to her, putting her down. His shoulder ached already from the burden. She stumbled closer and knelt, head down. The eagle lowered itself and nodded. "Come, Elandir," she said. Both of them mounted the eagle. "We need to go to Fargon. You need healing." "Fargon?" she asked in surprise. "Why can't we just look for Mordain?" "As soon as the news about Lathaon spreads, there will be nothing to stand between me and the City Guard. I will have a bounty on my head very soon and I can't trust the soldiers not to claim it. If we fly to the far north, I can get you healed before they hear the news and then we can figure out how to restore Lathaon's body." Arhaina looked too tired to argue. The Dark Lord walked through the halls of the Mystic Tower. A number of guards had opposed him, waiting behind bravely to defend the tower. They now served him. Undead filled the tower. They were searching everything. Drathmor's eyes glinted with dark delight as he made his way down, towards the vaults. But, as he rounded a corner, he found the passage sealed. Raising his staff, he sought to crumble the stone, yet his magic did nothing. He had forgotten the magical defences of this place. "My Lord?" asked a necromancer. "It would seem that the Archmage has sealed the items I seek within this place." Drathmor turned to his servant. "No matter the cost, I want this barrier gone! Tear the whole tower apart if you have to." ----- In another part of the tower, a group of orcs were searching the cells and interrogation rooms. Opening one door, they saw a man chained to the wall. Blood was everywhere and the man looked to be barely alive, but alive nonetheless. The brutes moved towards him. "Looks at d'is one!" the orcs laughed. "Stupid elf. Elf weak, elf small." ((Ithrain is an elf, right?)) |

The orcs stood there in a daze of dumbed silence. Then the first of them sneered. "Wants to see the Dark Lord, do you?" The creatures left the room, laughing. ----- Drathmor stood in the throne room, upon what had once been the throne of Mhairi Castoden, so long ago. A small group of orcs approached him. "Lord, we found an elf down below. He wants to talk to you." The Dark Lord rose. "Take me to him." With the orcs' leading the way, Drathmor descended into the depths of the tower. He walked past many holding cells, some of which he was intriguied to see still held captives. Some of these creatures could be of use. Drathmor entered the room that the orcs had indicated. He saw Ithrain shackled to the wall. "It would seem you have failed me, mortal." said the Dark Lord coldly. |

"Mordain Thaendil remains the better mage, my Lord, despite your generous gift," Ithrain said carefully. "But I can still be of use. As a former council mage, I can give you a wealth of information to begin with. Though I'm not in the most favourable position at the moment... as you can see." |

Drathmor thought over this information. "So you have not lost your usefulness to me." The Dark Lord turned and left the room. He looked at the orcs. "Have him released, and then bring him to the throne chamber." As their Master walked away, the orcs moved into the room, though one ran off to fetch someone, or something, that could free Ithrain. Some time later, a large beast, bound in unnatural muscle, entered the room. With a mighty heave, it tore the shackles from the wall and handed the all-but broken form of Ithrain to the orcs. Time passed, and the elf called out in pain, as the orcs dragged him to the throne chamber and cast him at the feet of Drathmor. Dark whispers filled the room as Drathmor invoked his magic. Strange lights rose from the shadows and rushed towards Ithrain, filling him. When the spell was complete, the elf stood tall once more, yet his appearance had changed. His skin was grey, his hair aged and his eyes little more than glimmers of malevolent light in the darkness. "The power of the dead can be used for many purposes, Ithrain. It can heal," Drathmor let his hand glide through the air before clenching it tightly into a fist, causing Ithrain to fall to the ground, wreathing in agony, "and it can destroy! Do not fail me again, or you will learn the true extent of my hatred for the mortal creatures of this world!" |

Drathmor sat back upon the throne of the Castoden bloodline. "The Archmage has sealed the lower parts of this tower, where the vault resides. There are items held within that vault from times of ancient legend and myth, things that predate anything you know. There is even something held within from the time of Krodalis..." He paused, his hunger for power growing. "I want that vault opened!" |

"Lord Archon, the archmage had the vault emptied and the contents sent north before your army arrived," Ithrain said, confused. "Though I do know that he did something to the tower before he left. The grinding sounds from below could be heard throughout the tower. I'm not sure what happened because I had access to the vaults and I didn't notice anything different, but I sensed an immense surge of power as he did it. I'm quite certain he had help in the task, presumably from a powerful artefact somewhere in or near his office." Ithrain sighed before continuing. "I was going to look for it myself but Elandir delayed me long enough for Mordain and a mage lord to come and stop me. If whatever he used was in his office, Elandir might well have that now; I have thought for a while on the matter and realised the grey robes he wore were a device the archmage used to assess the apprentices from within. Elandir must have been to Lathaon's office to retrieve them." |
