Mordus raised an eyebrow in surprise as the fluid pooled on the flagstones. He made to speak but found no words. He tried to ignore it. "I will see to the prisoner straight away. I shall even consult the Book of Ur before doing so. A suitable method must be found." He said rapidly, and turned equaly fast - taking several paces away but stopping abruptly. "It is strange, is it not; how time reveals all? Rest easy, I care not what you are. A man can be many things and still be a man. " He paused. "Pray for those that can not." He walked off, from whence they had come, disappearing into the shadowy corridor. |

Once the door was shut, Mordain tore off his left glove. His hand was cracked, the skin broken. This wound was focussed mainly on his palm, but he found that streaks were running from his hand towards his elbow. The black liquid that had fallen to the floor could be found within these wounds. Was this his blood now? Or was it something else? He could not be sure; the transformations that had taken place over the long years since his encounter with that stone monster were unlike anything he had ever encountered. Mordain doubted greatly that Mordus would hold to his opinion if he could see what Mordain had truly become. The Mage of Shadows invoked his healing magic to seal the wounds. However, the wounds were not sealed; the open cracks remained, and the dark liquid flowed beneath his skin. He could see it moving within the wounds. But it no longer escaped his body; it was contained within the wounds. Mordain had no time to investigate this new transformation, for there was much to be done. Putting the glove back on, Mordain left the room and made his way to the council chambers were all the mages were assembled and awaiting instruction. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Mordus took a left as the passage he walked split and hurried down through a spiraling staircase to reach the lower levels. The walls bore no windows down here and sprouted torches at intervals instead; adding to the gloom more so than if none had been lit at all. From the landing three passages lead off in different directions - corridors winding away for untold distances - and a sizeable gathering of Seekers sat by small tables on stools, talking quietly amongst themselfs before the warmer light of candles on the tables. Guarding the entrances to the interrogation chambers as Mordain had ordered. Mordus simply nodded aknowledgement to the ranking Seeker and headed through the foremost corridor. It stank of mildew and damp quite strongly. On either side of the corridor were spaced doors, some wooden, some iron, others of undescribable contruction enscribed with runes and wards. He passed them all until the corridor opened to form a room. A lone door stood silent in the wall. Undecorated and fashioned of plain wood save for a dark rune upon it. On first glance it looked like it had been scorched upon the wood, but a closer inspection revealed the black remnants of blood. He retrieved a simple iron key from his belt and gently opened the door, stepping in and closing it behind him just as softly. The oppressive rush of the null wards gripped him momentarily as he reajusted to the anti-magic field. Surveying the small room he could see the prisoner chained up against the rough stone wall by all four limbs; a grated drain on the floor and two chairs stacked at a corner. He walked slowly up and grabbed a chair. Placed it in front of the prisoner, and sat down. He pulled off his hood to reveal his palid face and stared into the ragged eyes of the prisoner. |

Mordain entered the council room. He took a position around the table and looked to the mages. "Time is short, as you all should by now know. The battle of the Kuren Pass served to only hinder the advance of the servants of the Dark Lord, whilst a far larger force is fast approaching this city." |
|

Boralays simply nodded, as did many other of the mage lords. Borsun stepped forth though, "But what of the battle of Kuren Pass then? What of the army there? Will they return here in time? Or are they all lost?" |

"As I understand it, some of the army is currently making its retreat, but I believe that others may still be in battle. They should be returning here, as Lathaon told me before his departure." Mordain paused. "The army of the Dark Lord is mere hours away from this city; therefore, I doubt that they will reach us by the start of the battle." |

"They the forces of the Necromancer may surround us so that the army of Castoden can't reach us," Tmar added. "Am I right?" Borsun looked from Thmar, and then to the other mage lords and then back at Mordain again. "What of Castoden anyway? And what of the Archmage, and Mage Lord Alicant?" |

First, Mordain looked to Tmar. "That is a possibilty, yes. If you have any suggestions as to how to prevent that, then I am open to suggestions." He turned back to Borsun. "The Lord Castoden has been engaged in battle with some form of undead creature. The Archmage also fought against a dark power. Of Lord Alicant, I know nothing." |

"I doubt that they are aware of the progress of the other, larger force." responded Mordain. |

Borsun did not respond. He seemed deep in thought. Then Boralays spoke, "Lord Mordain. If the case is, which at the point is quite likely, that both Castoden and Lord Thaendil has fallen, you will be one of the highest-ranking leaders of Weissland and the highest ranking in the military forces." |

"Until the Archmage returns here, I am the highest-ranking leader, but there is no need for such assumptions yet. Eagle riders will be dispatched to bring word to the Archmage and Lord Castoden of the situation that is unfolding here. The eagles will then return with word from the Archmage." Mordain turned to one of the Seekers that stood by the door. "Do as I have said; dispatch two riders to find and report to the Archmage, before returning to us here." The Seeker left to carry out his orders. Mordain turned back to the mages. "The tasks I have for you are simple; use your magical knowledge to provide as many defences for this city as possible. I do not care of their effect, just make sure to do whatever you can to help with the defence." |

"We will do what we can," Borsun said and the other mages joined in soon. "All I ask of you is that Weissland should not risk loosing another leader now," Boralays said. "Please have that in mind Mordain." |

Mordain stood in silence for a moment before speaking, though he did not look at Boralays. "You are all dismissed. Go now and do what you can for this city." |

One after another each mage left the council room. Borsun and Tmar turned towards Andros, who still sat in his corner in his magical meditation-status. "Poor old man," Tmar said quietly. Borsun simply nodded, "I hope he will pull through the battle. I have never seen Andros truly in a battle, but despite what other people say about him in his youth I fear he is too old for this. Even though the best of us are the old ones." With that both of them left the council room. |

Mordain's cloaked head turned and his gaze rested upon Andros. "You have been dismissed, mage. Why are you still here?" |

"Give me some time Mordain," Andros spoke, his eyes still closed. "You might be an elf, but you still has the rashness of a young member of mankind. Drathmor's forces are not here yet, let each of us prepare in his own way." The magical momentum around Andros built up. He was clearly working his magic, preparing for the battle. |

Mordain left the room. First, he spoke with Brae. "Ensure that the Seekers are dispersed amongst the ranks of the defenders. Tell them to assume commanding roles." Brae left and Mordain sought-out Marr. "My Lord?" asked the big man. "I need you to gather the Legion. They must be assembled and ready with the rest of the defenders. Keep them out of range of enemy siege weapons; they are valuable soldiers, and I will not have them wasted." As always, Marr nodded before leaving. Finally, Mordain went to speak with Shaellana and Gor. "Shaellana, rouse your dragon, as well as mine. We will need them in the up-coming battle. Then, I need you to make sure the defences are as secure as possible. Gor, I charge you with rallying the other Dragon Lords." Shaellana bowed. "It shall be done, my Lord." Gor nodded. "I'll see to it." |
